Hi there…

If you have any questions regarding just about anything related to this project, please post. I guess we still need a good FAQ, so any questions will be answered + added. Trivial and non trivial. :)

FAQ:

  • Is Simba Free Software?
  • YES
  • How can I get the source?
  • The source can be found here: git.villavu.com and git://villavu.com/simba.git
  • Which version should I use, the releases or the source?
  • Depends on what you want. It's generally better to use releases, unless you are a developer or if you want bleeding edge features. There are also several types of releases. Nightly builds ("unstable") versions, and stable releases.
  • How do I compile from source? [INSERT LINK TO THREAD]
  • What is Simba?
  • Simba is a script able program for repeating various tasks. It evolved out of collaborative efforts. It's main use is to repeat various tasks in Runescape. (RuneScape.com)<ADD MORE LATER>
  • Why did you make Simba?
  • It originally started out as a project to provide an macroing program on all platforms, another main reason was to provide an open source alternative. Closed Source all over the world blocks education. We hope a lot of people will have fun reading the source, and hopefully pick something up while doing so. :)
  • Why should we use Simba over other programs?
  • B] SRL 5 is only compatible with Simba, Simba is more stable, reliable, has a large development team and is open source so you can learn about it, make your own modifications, and will have quicker updates because of this.
  • Does this mean SRL is no longer written for use with SCAR?
  • Yes.

What does Free mean? Free means free as in freedom and free beer.

What is Simba? <copy from scar's description, or rewrite in our own words>

remember that Simba might still exist years after scar is dead and buried. We have to plan ahead for that sort of thing. But don't mention scar by name.

Why did you make Simba? It originally started out as a project to make a free software clone of a closed source program which will not be named.

I think we should release a thread with only a screenshot first, and use all the confusion in that thread as the FAQ questions. Then we can release it a bit later :p

Except expidiate it a bit more than Freddy did with DIVI.

Put out a thread and like a year later it was released.
That was very annoying. Don't announce something unless its in a state where it is, or almost is, ready to be released. Only a dumbshit would make a massive announcement about it before he's even 10% complete. (Again no names)

Where should I report any problems with Simba?
[Link to bug report section]
Please also include operating system, whether or not you compiled it yourself - if you did, FPC and Lazarus version used, if not which binary you used etc etc.

Where can I find out more about Simba?
[Link to the documentation or maybe a sexy Wiki page/section or whole wiki?]

How did you come up with the name?
Who are the developers?
What is it written in?
How do I use it? [link to tut on various features]

How could I help? You can either contribute by finding bugs, testing, suggesting new features, testing nightly builds, etc.

Everyone knows, however you need to ask permission to have access to these forums to be able to test simba. I'm guessing staff and devs automatically have access.

Yes, you are correct. The public knows, but no source has been released yet.

Oh okay that makes more sense. I was hoping to see Freddy's response on this project. Did he leave one?

He replied on the Simba thread once, and then didn't return to SRL. Harsh but true.
I don't think he was too pissed. It's probably a relief to him. :)

Was this an anti-Freddy1990 movement by the SRL team?

SCAR was the bad guy in Lion King. Simba was the good guy. Personally, Freddy can be cool, but I believe in the efficient-open-source-reflection-autoing-perspective that simba will kick scar's ass and because of the community or at least community leaders of SRL dropping scar support, it may have been because of Freddy's closed minded views tied in to promises by Freddy to Kait to keep it closed-source (last I heard) but more the former.

I feel that a lot of open source alternative projects come about because of suggested functionality that the main closed-source-app maintainer couldn't implement or didn't have the time or didn't want to. This way if Wizzup doesn't want to implement XYZ, then Nava2 can then implement XY and BobTheBuilder can complete Z to have the entire feature implemented. lol so to answer your original question Nava2: maybe.

Yes he does, and yes it is :)

I talk to him every now and then, as do other people.

Anyways

SCAR has been the beloved platform for SRL since the start, we've always appreciated the work Kaitnieks and Freddy have put forth. Lets not forget all these years.

As far as I have heard he is only working on his "new" java / reflection bot. It may be still on it's way, but that doesn't mean he works on it actively.

I don't know if he's working on bot or whatever at all anymore, I think it might have something to do with the recent lawsuits. He keeps people updated on the progress of luna, I've talked to him recently about it. I don't know what you would consider active or not, but he is working on it a sufficient amount imo. He's not to active around SRL lately, but that doesn't mean much as there isn't that much going on around here, SCAR and SRL have been running with out any need for major intervention. Myself and others keep him informed if anything goes wrong, he's also regularly checks freddy1990.com's forums.
