Deletion of Polls

I wonder why it is that the accepted people's polls are deleted. It seems to me, that basically only good will come of them being seen. If one wants to know what got them into SSRL, then they simply have to check, elsewise they dont have to. But when they do look, they will see a critical stance of what other people think of them. At which point, one can think to themselves "Hmm, I have been deemed immature by some people, I think I would like to work upon being less so, so as to not be annoying" or something of the sort.

If we look at the other end of the spectrum, one might argue against this because people dont want their opinions to be seen by the people they were voting against or for. If that is the case, then maybe that person shouldnt be posting whatever it is that they're saying. If you can't say whatever it is that you're saying directly to that person, then I dont see why you should be saying it to other people behind their back.

Quite simply, in the polls one might not always say about the person that they would to there face..I do try myself in real life, to always make it a point to not say something about someone, that I wouldn't say to their face….sometimes, I come off as a real ass hole, but at least you can't call me 2 faced….if you remember Dan, you and I have had a few differences ;), perhaps you wouldn't want to read what I might have wrote about you 2+ years ago, although I think I pretty much said it all directly to your face :p

it's also why polls aren't mentioned to the person when they are being considered….

I mentioned before, that I saw a post when I was promoted, discussing my promotion, that was supposed to have been deleted, I don't remember or care for the specifics, but I do remember, not everyone was in my favor…I didn't hold any grudges, and I sure didn't try and change for whomever didn't like me…sure, I have flaws, everyone does, but I was accepted here with these flaws by the majority of the community, and that was good enough for me :)

I would like to recommend making poll voters visible, and always add a neutral option, that way people have to leave a reason why they voted the way they did…as of now, you are not required to state a reason, and perhaps some people vote no just because they don't like the person, which isn't fair of course…

maybe if that was the case, personal grudges would be a neutral instead of a no, and it could be like the SRL Member applicants, where you could garner constructive criticism from it…

Well, if someone has a personal grudge, then they simply shouldnt vote, or refrain from voting until they can choose. Makes things easier.

I dont particularly recall much or any differences between us two, but I would rather have had you tell me (as you say you did) than tell other people about me, which just isnt really helpful at all. Which is where constructive criticism comes in. I sure don't agree with telling people that they are being considered because that would create more problems, but I can only see good in keeping them there for the person that got in to see.

Easy: if I know that person X is going to see the poll, then I can't really say what I want to say, as person X might feel offended and hate me and such.
About the constructive criticism: take a good look at the polls, is there that much constructive criticism? Not imo, just judgement about personalities (which is ok for that case).
And we saw what happened to someone else's poll which that person got to see while he wasn't meant to see it.

If what you want to say and what you do say changes because they would be offended etc, then you shouldnt be saying it behind their back. If you feel fine saying whatever it is despite them seeing it, then there isnt a problem.

I think it's quite hurtful if you find out your friend didn't think you were good enough for a senior position like this, just as finding out your were being polled would hurt if you didn't get in.

Edit: Also, some people are nice and will only say some things in private. It's not that they're too afraid to say it to their face, but that they dislike conflict or the like. I am leaning towards the polls being removed rather than kept. Likewise, I would be against making the voters public (do agree with neutral though - I often stand there) as people are free to share their views if they want to, but if they don't they shouldn't have to.

It's the same in the dev and mod/admin sections, presumably for the reasons said above. I think in all levels I have voted no for people I like, voting in confidence. I was curious when I became a dev, but got over it pretty quickly.

This is the senior member section. The votes are being given based on personality. If the reaction is what you're afraid of then the person likely won't be promoted in the first place.
