I wrote this for someone on myspace, then copied it to facebook, and then decided I might as well spam up srl with it too. True story btw.
Alright, well, it was in the wee hours of the morning, I was about to hop in my car to drive to school. I noticed the stray mother act (whom I have befriended over the past months) was walking around the dumpster meowing, and hopping up on the rim, and generally looking as distraught as a cat can look. So I head on over to investigate before I take off, I get closer and I can hear two set of meowing, so I figure her kitten must be pretty by. Upon approaching the mother I can then determine that the little meows are coming from inside the dumpster! I quickly peer inside, only to find it nearly empty, with the exception of the kitten. The kitten is very skiddish around people still, and ran away from the mere sight of me. At this point I wasn't sure if the kitten was marooned in the dumpster, or simply eating, so I take a few steps back and hear it try to jump out, yes, it is stuck in there.
This is where I decided it is up to me to take action! In one swift motion I launch myself over the edge, into the depths of the dumpster, with the poor stranded feline. Fearing for my own personal safety upon handling the kitten (razor sharp claws of course) I dawn the only protective hand wear I had at the time, a thin pair of mechanic's gloves. I had to corner the scared kitten in order to approach it, the helpless animal tried to jump out a few more times, but could only make it a few inches short of the top. I then quickly reached out and grabbed the kitten, supporting it in both of my hands. I can tell the young one knew I was there to help, as he seemed to relax upon being cradled by my big strong hands. I then raised the kitten, above the rim the dumpster, and gently dropped it on the outside, next the awaiting mother. I watched how they looked into each others' eyes, silently expressing their great relief that the ordeal had subsided, with the brave help of one daring young man.
