SRL Installer

See Also: Reflection Installer

Directions:
  • Open and press run.
  • Click Next a few times and let it access all connections to Villavu.com
  • Success!
  • To update, run it again.

Note for Vista and maybe Windows 7 users: Be sure to run SCAR as an administrator. See this thread to learn how.

Because of SCAR limitations, if the installer looks like it crashed, check to see if SCAR is still Writing out debug text, and if it is, just be patient and ignore the GUI :)

Greatly needed! I would try it out but sadly I already have SCAR and SRL installed :p. This will be WAY easier for newbies. +1!

Run script, next next next, I'd assume.
But this is against rules and will be closed.

It's not against the rules. All it does is download, and setup SRL from the SVN repositories. Nothing wrong with that, and it's noob friendly :)
Widget also has a reflection installer.

Nice work.

Quote the rule your talking about, I would like to see exactly where your getting those stipulations.

Ah, ask Hobbit if it's against the rules and he will say no.

I'm still trying to figure out what your whole point in this was. If guys that have been here for a long time say it's not against the rules, then let it go. If it really is against the rules then someone will close the post. There is absolutely no reason to sit here and try to get a post closed/deleted. It's pointless.

"Guys" that have been here for a long time doesn't necessarily mean that they get to create and/or bypass any rules. The people that do are the administrators (and in certain occasions, the moderators).

@Sex:
This is not against any rule. I don't know what you're trying to say, and Hobbit won't close this. This simply is a tool to help newcomers in SRL to actually install SRL easily with a SCAR script :)

Just wondering, what made you actually think it was against the rules in the first place? Was it by some other members posts/threads? Was it by reading the rule list and misinterpreting a few?

Sex

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't think this will help newcomers, but I know that Hobbit will say this is against the rules once he sees this.

But stop bashing me. I know for a fact that he said it was against the rules before but he might have changed his mind now.

Can you please show us where he said that it was against the rules previously and we may look into it? :)

Also, we're not bashing you, and we apologize if it seemed that way towards you. We were simply pointing out that it wasn't against the rules, which you claimed it was ;)

MSN. No logs, sorry.
But don't be so sure that it's not against the rules just because Zeph says it is.

But lets not worry about it, I may be wrong, I may not, theres always a chance.

That's exactly the same thing, except designed for Reflection instead of SRL. That hasn't been locked and many have found it helpful.

Hope that has helped to answer your queries :)

Actualy, IT IS AGAINST THE RULES here….NO DOWNLOADERS OF ANY TYPE….this is to protect the general public from any malicious activity…you never know what's bundled up in that program…..if it wasn't from Widget, I would be concerned, seeing Widget is trusted, I'm not concerned for the program, but my concern comes from someone who manipulates the program for malicious behavior, then re-posts it down the line, either here or another forum….I'll leave the thread open for the time being, but remove the link pending a further investigation into this…

I suggest a official stamp of approval by the staff stating that it is safe. It can be easily read as its a scar file and not a exe that could have anything in it. For those that "repost it" to close those thread and to official state to ONLY download from this page.

It is a useful tool and can be easily handled compared to dealing with SVN. This isn't the only code that downloads the repository of the SRL include and properly places it. (I believe mixster made one that is formless but just as effective) As well anyone who uses SCAR can easily block the connection via in scar if they see a site they don't know. It pops up per site (unless you have it disabled) and most people know the location of the SRL repository's which are on villavu.

The 2 users we know to be trustworthy and not some random person posting a download of this sort that might have malicious intent.

Edit:
I would to add that there are also many scripts that download a type of NEWS for the script in question. It usually tells if the script has been updated etc. there are also cases where it downloads the script for you. However this just as well can be blocked in SCAR with the connection pop-up that I mentioned earlier. More or less the user has complete control which site it connects too.

SCAR cannot execute 'downloaded' programs, so it kinda safe.

:o (Edit: wat, that's completely not a :o smiley)

Doesn't that apply to executable downloaders though? You can look through the source of my script, I've tried to keep it as short as possible :). This script also isn't capable of replacing itself, and my reflection downloader has a combined 2400 downloads.

According to that you're still supposed to give me some time before you remove the script :p

Technically this thing only downloads useful stuff from trusted sources. SCAR asks very clear if you want to connect villavu.com and when it wants to connect to an unsafe website. I don't see the harm this will do?
Besides, the risk of someone putting a virus-infected DLL in the repos is way higher than the risk of someone sending out this malicious script (I got infected by Ray before..)
besides it's made by Widget so it's probably good stuff =)
