Do people get addicted to masturbation? What do you think? Vote on the poll and reply with a brief (or detailed) explanation on why you think it is or it isn't.

In my opinion I do think it is addicting, and that some people can get to the point where they do it everyday or more. I have also heard stories about people being addicted to porn, and people using porn to masturbate.

Do people know of any problems that someone can get if they masturbate to much or if they get addicted to it? Like what would happen if someone got addicted to porn/masturbation and then his parents took away his (or her?) computer because of something that happened?

Any form of an orgasm is addicting. Sex is just as addicting if you enjoy it enough… There is even therapy for sex addicts, which coincides with masturbating.

ANYTHING can be addicting. People just get "addicted" to sex and masturbation because it "feels good, man".

The only true way to break free without any sort of withdrawal that i know of is to truly fall in love with someone. Reason: you can't stop thinking about that person, and if you are truly in love then you won't think of the physical. Ergo; your thoughts don't drift to things that want you to masturbate, and in some situations even if they do, you won't feel the urge to, as your feelings for your other are so strong.

In this case, masturbation is like almost anything: if you do it too much, and don't care that much about other things, and you HAVE to do it certain times a day, well then yea you are addicted.
lets put it like this: it can be addicting, but almost anything can be (mentally) addicting.

I think people are confusing habits with addictions. Habits is something you do often just from being used to doing it a lot, addictions are when even if you kinda don't want to, you just need to anyway or you don't feel normal.

EDIT: In my opinion, anyway. That would be the difference, I didn't actually look either up to have the real difference.

Masturbation is like anything, it can be addicting. I read a paper somewhere.. I might try and dig it up. Its about how the porn industry has single handedly created a masturbation issue in society.

Internet porn is too readily available, hence why it is easy for masturbation to occur frequently.

Albeit, its not completely wrong to say that people need to masturbate. Maslow's heiarchy of needs states that sex is one of the fundemental physiological aspects that humans need to survive. Its there with food, water, and shelter. Its kinda scary to a certain extent.

Though, many of us will become addicted at some point to masturbation, let's get real here.

The real question is, what is to blame?

I dont think Its addictive. Its just like Yoho said. Wheres theres nothing else to do, why not masturbate? Its not like your causing harm to your self or others.. so its not that big of a problem.

Kind of the opposite for me.
If i start, and then notice I have to pee, I HAVE to pee before I continue/finish :p.

Also (not really related).
My High School bio teacher said the reason we get morning wood/erections in the morning is because when we have to pee at night, but our body inst awake enough to, it just 'makes:stirthepot:' an erection to stop the pee until we wake up :p.

well if I have to pee really bad I get an erection, but I don't really get aroused. Of course, when you have an erection anything is possible.

but on a more serious note, I don't think masturbation is addictive because addiction implies that there are withdrawal symptoms or that some dependency has formed, which I feel doesn't happen.

You got it all wrong here. Its not addicting. Its a habit. Some people make it a habit of doing it everyday. Thats not being addicted to it.

People are addicted to smoking or using drugs becasue it stimulates their brain. So they do it more often and can not stop.

Masturbation does nothing to the brain. It stimulates the body. Which can be manageable and people CAN live without it.
