we are making 3d cell models in my bio tech class, and i was wondering how i should make it?

the rules:
must be proportioned(she gave us mesurements)
organelles must be able to be tooken out, and be examined
it can be any cell, no specifics or any thing, just needs the correct organelles

i was thinking a mixture of clay(that wont harden) for the cell itself, and play dough(that will harden) for the organelles. place tooth picks in the playdough before it hardens, and into the clay, so it can be easily tooken out and observed :p

i am getting supplies this weekend, and i am in the planning stage atm

I did that exact project. I used sculpting clay (different colors for each organelle) and just shaped it. If you get good enough quality clay, you won't need to use anything that fully hardens. I tried that first and it was getting all cracked and crumbly.

Just a suggestion, but I took a knife and cut of 1/4th of the cell wall and membrane so you could see inside of it. It looked pretty damn cool :P

EDIT: like this:

BAKE a cake!!!!!

My buddy did it and got 100%. It wasn't that great of a job (I mean, decent) but I think its just the idea.

EDIT: Im' not quite sure you can take out pieces, actually.

Yeah, if you can find the clay that comes in really hard bars, it is tough to get it into shapes at first, but once it's used a little it works wonders.

Make it in lego! Variety of colours, sturdy shape, fun to build and easy to make things removable etc - not to mention you can also build other things with left over pieces and put a couple of lego men in there and say they were shrunk down to minitaure size to explore it.
