Jagex finally managed to "kill" the 76k trick this monday, and starting from today (actually yesterday but not as bad) we are starting to see the effect.
Hyper deflation.
After the somehow extreme inflation of the past time (easter eggs crashing to 26m, runes getting sold for max instantly for weeks, iron bars being 400+gp whilst ores are 190ea??), the economy looks like it's getting a big punch to the normal levels.
If we take a look for example at the price drop list of the GE, we clearly see a lot of items going at the -5% tour, among them many raw materials like silver ores, un-cleaned herbs and all kind of logs.
The cause of the inflation at first clearly was the 76k'ing, but there's more (which I'll explain later). Due to it being so easy to make money, tons of people went to edgeville, built up DP, then killed some friend for the $. As a majority of the players were doing that, the usual happened: money became worthless.
However, the 76k trick wasn't the only cause of the inflation:
For a long time (since GE actually), the unlimited store stocks artificially kept prices below a certain point, not only through GE limits but also due to the fact that for example for chaos runes, it was almost as cheap to visit Aubury in Varrock than going to the GE just a few yards away, and it was just as fast (if not faster). For feathers, same thing. The price difference was only 1gp, and people really weren't willing to pay more than 6gp for a single feather when the shop had them for 6. Thus, this kept the inflation for most items a bit down.
However, the removal of the store update caused the prices to explode. As money was getting worthless, people were paying more and more for trivial goods like ores and herbs, up to the point you could make like half a million per hour for just a bit of mining! It was pretty clear this situation would be unsustainable, and so realised Jagex so they did this update.
Also, take a look at the graph of D Claws:
The line is pretty clear for now, and I bet it'll continue going down like this for at least one or two weeks or so (until a new money trick is found most likely).
Luckily for me and some friends, the day before the update (sunday), we sold a LOT of stuff for mid/max price, including robin hood set (the hat dropped 150k today, ranger boots 450k).
So, how did this update affect you?
