Edit:YoHoJo: Please don't post in this thread unless you have something meaningful to say. No "goobyes" or "come back soon" or that sort of stuff. I'm sure TAD knows he's loved, and posts like that don't help contribute to anything at all. Thanks <3

Goodbye everyone. I’ve been thinking about leaving for a while, and now some recent events have lead to me finally making a decision. You may have thought I already left, seeing as I haven’t posted for probably months on anything relevant to SRL, but I’ve been lurking around. Also, I’ve never flamed anyone extensively, but it might come to that in this last thread of mine.

SRL is dying. There’s no denying that. Back in the waning days of summer some people took the initiative in trying to restore some activity and interest, with changing Free For All scripts and what-not. A great number of users were for the idea, many wished to go all out and allow any scripts to be FFA. Eventually, it was clear that the least that should be done is expand the variety of scripts allowed to be released. But no. That never happened. The Admins apparently vetoed an idea that the whole forum was for. Another example: we have (I should say had) this wonderful thing called Reflection. Reluctant to adapt to newer, better, methods, the staff decided to stay away and leave it up to a couple people to maintain it, all while saying, in essence, “Stay away from that horrible thing!”, which obviously didn’t work out. Reflection scripters were being shunned from SRL Members, eventually resulting in it being what it is now. Being stubborn and living in the past will never get you anywhere, SRL.

Whatever the staff, most notably the ones at the top of the chain (i.e. Wizzup), say, goes. Sure, he’s the one that’s supposed to make the decisions for the forum, but exactly how he goes about making those decisions is why I’m leaving. I’m not going to stick around in a place where the leadership is very much like a dictatorship full of hypocrisy and injustice. Case in point, JAD's Views Thread…

Let’s start from the top.

Second off, what is the use of this thread? No one knows where the quotes are from, nor what they are on about. Although I dislike the fact that you may be leaving; you make me very happy because you just proved my point. You're not fit for a Moderator if you make a post like this in public.

I have never seen JAD post anything controversial. This one, single, time, it was done so that the rest of the community could see how SRL was being run, to warn them before it's too late. He did it in the best interest of the community.

Yes, as a staff member one should not be very strong about religions or politics. Sometimes threads heat up a bit, but you take it to a next level by putting something like "proud to be a conservatist" in your signature. I can understand it if certain people put a bible quote or similar in their signature, but what you did was in my opinion ridiculous. Sure, some staff members including me post their opinion from time to time on the forums; but how does that make my argument less valid: we still need to look for the people who merely do it; or not in an extreme form.

That’s laughable. There’s a rank called ‘Communist’ and you’re complaining about JAD having a signature saying “This thing says I’m a conservative”? I could tell what your political affiliations were long before I had any idea of JAD’s. Also, I don’t understand your ‘on the forums’ remark. JAD’s signature doesn’t qualify as ‘on the forums’?

Your opinions are clearly biased. Why is it that no other voter mentioned his political affiliation (as far as I see from what you posted)? Because they realize that he is not any more politically biased than many other staff members.

That’s half the reason I’m leaving. The other half is because I just don’t have an interest in Runescape and/or don’t have enough time for it. Cya, and thanks for the ride.

I don't plan to respond to anything unless I really feel a need to.

Then leave, don't start more drama. No one forces anybody to visit these forums. If you don't like how they are run then you have no obligation to return. That's really all there is to it.

All you kids complaining about how thing's aren't fair doesn't matter. Welcome to the real world.

and Reflection scripters were never shunned from SRL Members, but it is very clear that a few people who did gain membership with reflection scripts wouldn't have been able to get very far without it..

!EDIT: Sorry if tl;dr, please take the time to read as this is fairly important. This dosn't only apply to TAD, but to everyone!

I really have nothing to say to your views, as I have only been here since the end of the summer. But from what I have seen, SRL is fine the way it is now, people are active, kind and understanding(most of the time :p).

If you really have a problem, you wouldn't leave and let others deal with it imo. You should stay and help fix it. You're saying the SRL community is dieing? Well help it grow again! Make it flourish! Contribute your stuff, scripts, tutorials etc. Help out newbies to the site. Don't just direct them to the tutorial section imo, add them on MSN and teach them the basics of SCAR, and then direct them to the tutorial section.

Imo that is the main problem. People don't help out all the new people to SRL, and the new people just drift away within a week, or only stay to be a leecher. And to make things worse, people are quitting because of these things, downing the population of the SRL community!

Yes, I agree we have been dealt a pretty bad blow, but its not fatal. We can make SRL what it once was! Let Jagex tremble before our might once again!

Well you are choosing the wrong time to leave.

2009-10-23 14:37:03

AFAIK: FFAs have all “power” non-banking scripts. And SRL Members+ have banking scripts. Makes sense to me? Let FFA have a taste of autoing and see what SCAR is capable of, and if they want anything more, they must learn to make pretty basic script showing that they know SRL well. What’s wrong with that? (is that what your talking about?)
Well no one can argue that making a reflection script is a lot easier than a color one. But I personally DO NOT vote no on reflection scripts just because I see .include reflection. (You’re grouping all SRL member voters/staff into one group) we all have our own opinions. If I see a reflection script, I just check twice as hard to make sure they have all requirements for members fulfilled ie: Lopps, Cases, TPA, Multiplayer ect ect. So yeah it’s fine to judge a reflection script harder (its easier to make), but I don’t vote no because it is reflection. Also AFAIK most of the staff doesn’t know didly squat about even maintaining reflection and if they COULD fix it, I bet some of them WOULD, AFAIK it is Method to does all of that, and he is working as hard as he can (when he has time) to fix it, but the recent RuneTek5 update has made updating reflection difficult. Besides Method still working on updating reflection, (as in before it broke) I think there were lots of neato cool working reflection scripts and no one had a problem with anything much about them. Those who wished to make them/use them did, and that was fine with everyone.

The other half is because I just don’t have an interest in Runescape and/or don’t have enough time for it. Cya, and thanks for the ride.

That’s understandable, but cmon now, LOTS of us don’t give a crap about Runescape, it’s the scripting, the macroing, the making a 1K+ line scrip, watching it compile and work flawlessly and “saying aww shit I made that woo!” that keeps us here. At least just stick around for the great community and fun times :D. Don’t worry, you’ll be back…..(maybe just very inactive) but back.

Actually, the staff has generally agreed that the "Junior Member" rank is to be given a different purpose; and that SRL was going to open up more, once again. This would obviously effect the FFA rank.

I wonder where you read about the "veto" though. It is more likely the staff has forgotten about it. (It happens, you know.)

I think that Reflection is used a lot more, no? Some of the members in the Staff actively support Reflection, and there are several Reflection developers that are also SRL Developers. The will also soon be a Reflection (Sub)forum on SRL, combined with a "Reflection Maintainer/Developer" rank. But then again, you probably didn't know that.

It may look like the "leaders" make all the decisions, but they only carry out what their political party or other experts decide. If this is not the case, then you can indeed speak of a dictatorship, but I can assure you this is not the case. Too bad you have no idea how the community is actually run. In total you may have seen a few posts in a single thread; there are probably at least 500 more. The Community is run as a team, and I don't see how you can compare the staff to dictators. Do you honestly believe JAD did it in the best interest of the Community? He's furious, and he thinks that I hate him. He thinks the Staff is biased against him, and he's pissed he did not become a Mod. Such behavior would not suit a Mod. The Staff Member who send the entire page to JAD is to blame for JAD's rage; not someone who has voted on his poll. The Staff Member should just have not mentioned anything to JAD, and there was no problem. This is how SRL has always been run, and it has not changed just one little bit since the start.

If you really think that SRL is run as a dictatorship, then I invite you to read through a couple of threads in the Moderator Section, so you can see how it really works; because you obviously don't have a clue.

I (and I don't think anyone in the Staff) thinks SRL is being run as a dictatorship, but then again, that may be one of the first characteristics of a dictatorship.

Believe what you want, though. I'm not here to flame; I just think you are drawing your conclusions too fast.

Sure, I have a political preference, but I don't think less of someone if he doesn't agree with me politically. I suggest you take a look at some of the other staff members. Tarajunky would be an example.

I in fact don't give a damn about what / who you think is a great ideology / person; but I do think putting something like JAD has in your signature is ignorant, and does not reflect maturity. That is why I posted it in that thread. However, I do sense that you care about political views, hence your decision.

I hope that this has shone a bit more light on the situation, that you, in my humble opinion have misinterpreted.

It takes nuts to take that criticism, and stand up for yourself in a logical way without making yourself look like an idiot. I believe in giving respect when respect is deserved, and this is one of those cases.

Not one of those retarded "Repz0r +++++1 ty f0r dA p0stz" kinds of respect. Real respect.

Ok so the other day I got a warning for posting spam "OMG its jesus" in the BBQ section in a non-serious thread (my only post that entire week), even though there are threads in the section called 'counting game' where people deliberately spam including the person that gave me that warning. But do you see me flipping out and going posting I'm leaving threads and say crap like "I hate the staff bunch of stupid dictators"?

No.

There are a lot of people who would like to be Members, Developers, Mods and even admins, do you see them getting all pissed and ranting in public because they haven't achieved it even in many years?

No.

This is like the typical grocery store scenario where the kid wants a piece of candy at the check out and is screaming because his mom won't buy it for him.

Threads like these are the reason "SRL is dying", although, I don't think it is.. I just think since there are a million leechers who post on your thread instantly when you post a script anymore people are bored and would rather fight each other over this shit.

Imo the lack of stability is the reason, and I don't just mean SRL include. Runescapes changes - PvP, engine & trade limit changes. (trade limit stopped me from coding hardcore)

Runescape is constantly changing crap, making less people play and breaking SRL constantly - which isn't new, but recently its been hectic. We'll get it into place eventually.

Sorry to see you go Tad.

Im not gonna run into who is right and who is wrong. I try to stay out of any arguments or views and beliefs as its something you will never agree on. Doesnt matter who the person is wether they are the leader or some random person.

Belief is a strong thing, people will keep to their beliefs, wether its about fate or anything else it cant be argued.

Simple rule in life, politics and religion should never be argued.

That was reversed on Oct 16th :p

Tad (Runescapian; as I still think of you as), I've known you since the day you started at the forums. I was probably one of the first people who you met. We had great times in the "What do you love about the person above you thread". I know you must have a larger sense of reason in that head of you're then this. SRL is far from a dictatorship, as a staff team we all have ideas, we all post our ideas and discuss them. We all have had ideas denied, including Wizzup. We discuss it as a team and decide what we think is best for the forums, Wizzup nor even Fawk has ever said "This is my idea and we are doing it no matter what". They always asked our opinions and inputs and if we as a majority felt it would not benefit then it was not done. Simple as that. Please do not make assumptions of our character and the way we run things based off a few rantings of someone who does not know the whole story and is BIAS themselves yes still calling us bias.

Meh.
About FFA, it wasn't vetoed at all. It was first voted in mods, then in ssrl, then in members. We could've jsut simply ever have put it to you guys, but we did. It was a staff decision to give you guys that poll. Why hasn't it come into effect yet? Cus there are too many broken things, making a huge show of all these new scripts only to have them break after an hour because of a random is not such a good show.

Reflection is getting their own subforums etc, the only reason this hasn't happened yet is cus we don't currently have a cup for reflection devs and time is of the essence. We don't always have the time to do all these things.

As Wizzup already said, there are changes to these things coming, but it all takes a hell lotta time, cus it's quite a lot of work AND we also have RL, most staff having jobs/uni/oter things to deal with at the same time.

Finally, this is not a dictatorship, or anything like it. As a staff member, i do many decisions on my own, many of them i also poll, many of them i ask other staff members what they think, etc. If we do end up asking wizzup, it is for the simple reason that he is the most experienced admin.

Goodbye Runescapian. I always liked you and you taught me alot.

Its really sad that you are leaving because of the administration of the forums.

You are a very valued, reputated and decorated member of the forums.

Goodbye, it makes me really sad that you leave because of the admins.

I guess saying : "I agree." would get me nothing but problems, so I will not.

Farewell.
