What do you call them?
I guess many people in the east call it "soda"
while many people in the west/northwest call it "pop",
I've heard that people on the south call it all "coke"…which pisses me off.
What do you guys call it?
Hobbit

I call it soda because of my French background. "boisson gauses" translates to soda better than pop so I've just grown up saying soda even though I live in the West and everyone calls it pop :p

Soda (I live on the east coast). If I ask for a Coke, I'm definitely asking for Coca-Cola. Which really doesn't happen much, as I prefer clear sodas to dark sodas.

It's a poison because people often drink way too much of it (and it's really easy to drink too much). And most of them are poison to people with diabetes, anyway.
Brain
2009-10-18 00:23:44
so…poison is defined by how much people drink it? I didn't think too many people were drinking bleach these days, but that is a poison. And it's not pop that poisons diabetics, it's sugar, which most pop has a lot of, but not all pop.

No, poison isn't defined by how much people drink it. But anything is a poison in too large of a quantity.
People have died from to much water, i remember in the news, a radio show was doing a water drinking contest. Had to drink gallons in 3 minutes to get a ps3. Women died who was doing it for her kids.

It wasn't a PS3. It was a Wii. The contest was called "Hold your Wee for a Wii." Everyone involved in the contest was then fired.

No, anything is
fatal in too large of quantity, not everything is a poison. Too much heat such as being teleported to the surface of the sun is fatal, you will vaporize, but it is in no way poisonous.

I've never heard a story where an individual willingly and casually drank too much pop and died…..I did have a friend however that drank too much pop too often and had some kidney stones. And then the unfortunate chap had some testicular torsion and lost a ball.
And of course I agree with you, nearly every substance has a toxicity concentration point.

Obesity, Type 2 diabetes, harsh on your teeth and virtually zero nutrient values.
If the amount of caffeine in carbonated drinks cannot affect you, why would they add it? It certainly is not taste seeing as most people consider caffeine to taste awful.
And no, they do not add carbon to carbonated drinks, they add carbon dioxide. Two very different things.
I have in my possession diet 7up and pepsi. The 7up has virtually no sugar, but 124 mg of aspartame for every 355ml. The Pepsi has 30g of sugar per cup. If you honestly believe that is not a lot of sugar, you are crazy. The negative effects aspartame are still out of the park.
I will be honest, I still drink the occasional carbonated drink but its never a lot. Drinking anything more than around a cup gives me bad stomach pains. And this is usually because of floats. I cannot say for sure why carbonated drinks pains me so much, but I know pain is a warning developed by the body to tell you that something is wrong. That is enough for me.

so if you were offering someone a drink at your home, and you had 1000 different kinds of beverage, you would list each one out instead of saying "Would you like a soft drink/pop/soda/coke(not the brand, the generalization that every drink is coke)"?

If I had a 1000 different kinds of beverages, I would be scared. I would list them by name. I have a weird case of OCD when it comes to things like that, plus working at a restaurant where we have to list the drinks by name to the customers doesn't help.

Atlanta is the birthplace of Coca~Cola, so everything is a Coke, even bringing a Pepsi product on Coke Facility (as an employee) is grounds for dismissal. "Pop" is the noises the bubbles make when they…Pop…almost annoying as saying "Crack Cocaine", because it makes a crack noise when it's made :s ….most carbonated beverages are made from "Soda Water" and syrup….When in Rome, do as the Romans do…. I call it Soda…
