Arcade Cabinet Project

Mr.Klean's Aracde Cabinet Project

I decided that I would build a MAME cabinet so I did.

-Used LuSid's Arcade plans.
-Link to his site http://lusid.net/arcade/ (has many good links on it too)
-My base design was Cabinet_Design_Rev7.PDF (attached) Basically it was a grid with all the pieces on it. Each grid block equals one inch.
-Pretty easy to into AutoCad, just drew everything out and put it together into the 4'x8' sheets(3)
-Converted the AutoCad files to .art files for the ShopBot (CNC) was pretty simple except for the left piece. The one with a lot of squares on it… It was impossible to compensate for using a 1/4" cutting bit, so I resized the model (the MDF sheets are actually cut 49"x97" inch oversized) taking advantage of the oversize and managed to cut everything out.
-My finalized Autocad file? I think it's the right one (not able to check, in linux atm) arcade_cab[1].dwg.rar (rar'd due to file type restrictions on attachments.)

I will add more info later. Just thought I would get something started for now.

I really want to make an arcade cabinet too, for MAME Donkey-Kong related purposes. My school has an auto-cad thing, maybe I could use it.
The outline looks fantastic.

Yeah it's my old High School's shop. I was really good with the Shop Teacher and he let me come back and use it. Almost all the pieces would be pretty easy to cut by hand on a table saw and miter box but I did them all because I was lazy :P.

I am putting a computer and an old TV I have in it for now. The TV will eventually get replaced with either an arcade monitor or a big LCD.

My only problem so far is the converter board for the Joysticks and buttons to turn it into a PS2 keyboard input is $75 :O

Hi RAM. Long time no see. Yep just across two lakes from you. Lake Michigan and Lake Winnebago :)

Actually they have a frontend for mame (based off linux) Then the convert board takes the joy stick entries and turns them into PS2 keyboard strokes. The only problem I see is that if I use a proper arcade machine monitor I will have to wire up a video signal amp because VGA cards do not give off enough power.

Anyways it's not going very fast. I don't have much time to work on it so it will be a while till it's done.

Don't use the old school stuff, just put the oldest working CRT or something in there.

??? I didn't say I was using old school stuff anywhere?

Oh wait haha, edit like a week later. Old school stuff meant arcade stuff… :P I am going to use a CRT or a TV for now. But I might switch to an original arcade monitor since they are a bit nicer to look at close up. But for now it's just going to be a computer in a really nice box.
