WELL seeing as how our activity has been decreasing as of late and everyone is getting older and we don't has as much young blood coming in anymore I had a great idea today. Lately I've been notice tons of computers I get at work that have the Jagex_cache on them, I get atleast 5 a week. Now, my city is full of old people because they all decide its nice to retire out here, so the younger population in my city really isn't that big, so to have such a high percentage of computers having that must mean a whole heck of a lot of people must play runescape.
So I did a quick stats survey on the IRC just to see the responses before I started and there were quite a few people (who were active on IRC) who agreed to go along with it so I think we can get good support out of this.
Now my plan:
Put out an "SRL Advertisement" poster for the SRL User to download and distribute throughout their cities (ex: stick them to schools, telephone polls, mail boxes, etc). I think we would actually see an increase in activity from this if it gets the support needed to succeed. I for one will be leaving a copy of it "By accident" on all the computers i come across with the cache.
So what do you guys think?
I will attach of PDF of a quick version of what the poster could be and tell me if you have any additions, changes, removals etc. We all know I'm not one of the most creative people so I am expecting (Hoping) a lot of changes :p

I hardly see the difference between advertising through runescape and advertising doing this. With your idea, we are advertising to a few people who we know play Runescape but don't necessarily auto, and through RS, we are advertising to many people who we know play runescape but don't necessarily auto. Jagex being more aware of us advertising I guess is the only difference.
Good idea though :)

And if many users all do it then there are lots of people who see it all over instead of a few people who are only where that person is advertising in runescape and there is not much info on it when you are advertising in runescape so people will prolly just pass off as useless. Where as if we poster it everywhere even people who don't play it themselves but know someone who does will be like hey look what I saw.

Epic Idea dude.
Very funny and creative.
Not sure how well itll work, I mean A LOT of people do play runescape, but I don't think random fliers will get many more people. People just need to tell their friends online and we need to just make everyone WANT to and be EXCITED about scripting! Its a great feeling! I do agree we need to keep this community strong, and get MANY MORE dedicated scripters to keep us healthy and strong!
What about banners for people to put on their websites too? Referral link banners.
Just another way to advertise for free.

Thats a great idea. Could you make one up maybe? At the end once we've gotten lots of input and everyone is happy will make a forum wide announcement about it and also make a clone thread for when the announcement expires.

Im just SCARed that this will attract thousands of more noobs who will do nothing but leech. But hey, you gotta attract everyone you can and natural selection will take place. The weak and stupid will die off and leave, while the few awesomes and 1337s will learn and script and contribute!
E: We Should Make A GFX Competition for banners actually! We've got a lot of talented graphics guys here!!!!

But atleast with leechers it boosts our activity, boots word of mouth advertising, boosts adsense revenue, etc, etc, etc. Many leechers come back later and stay (like me :p)

Lol, you really don't know me. I'm probably your creativity / 50. Can't draw anything =/
@YoHoJo, leechers is really what we need right now. There is a very improper hiearchy right now of Jr. members/registered users to SRL members.
As you said, many leechers will go on to provide feed back, and maybe even become great scripters themselves.

Advertise to those that have already decided to cheat.

How can we do that though?

I don't think this is a good idea - especially since SRL isn't as stable as it used to be.
Wait for SRL 5 perhaps?

srl 5 ???
OH SHI-
I think that we need to advertise a bit, perhaps get our google page rank up, or perhaps even setup a referral system to get a cup or something based on number of people you refer to SRL. This would need more protection against people messing with the system, multiple accounts etc, but it could work. :)

Google page rank is the most important method of obtaining new members interested in cheating. When people (who we already know want to cheat) search for Runescape cheats, we need villavu to at least be on the first page. Google counts links to a site and that is a large determinant of page rank, so banners could only help this.

After the recent update which screwed up RSBot etc. if SRL had been easy to setup and install, have a selection of working scripts and an include that had been updated quickly, I'm pretty sure a good few hundred people would have at least wondered to here to try SRL. I know it's a somewhat bad post coming from me as I do very little work on anything, but it's just my two cents.
