Tutorial Writing Competition (With GREAT PRIZE)

Time to gather up all you know about scar+srl, and teach them to rest of the community!
About the Competition There will be two competitions, both explained below.
Main CompetitionEach contestant must make a tutorial thread that will cover
AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE about the SCAR and SRL.
For example:
How to setup and download SCAR+SRL (pub/dev)
Color
TPAs
Scar built in functions
Standards...etc
*Reflection tutorials doesn't have to be included, because it is currently down, a tutorial WITH reflection will be evaluated same as a tutorial WITHOUT reflection*
The tutorial must be longer than 3 post (Each group of related function can take up one post, this way it will looks better).
Sub CompetitionThe goal is write a REALLY good and easy to understand tutorial about ANYTHING within Scar-SRL.
Example:
How to make a really good auto fighter, with detail explanation of all (useful ones) SRL's fighting related functions.
How to make a super good antiban (This topic will most likely be beaten by other tutorials, unless you can make it in SUPER DETAIL).
...etc
The tutorial can be no longer than 3 post.
Rules

If I can't post sorry but there's Zeph's walking tutorial that's a good example for a tutorial how to be made. It's just like what you mentioned. Separate things - separate posts.
There are other good ones of course just this came to my mind first.

Nauman you have over 9000 tuts, you code just make a how to go from a leecher to an ultimate scripter tutorial lol. I think you covered everything already, and if they allow what you asked, you'll probably win, you tut would be so long and in depth. The tutorials I remember reading of yours are very good.
I think I'll sit this competition out and won't even attempt it. English isn't my thing, I hate writing and grammar. I contributed one tut so far, only because the amount of questions regarding it was rediculous at the time, I contribute tuts when I feel like it :p
I do like this competition though, it'll hopefully get SRL with a lot more good tuts for the noobies.

I'm tempted to try and win to turn down the prize in a show of my communist principles regarding this community - or I could win and give the prizes away as LoS prize!
I changed it to the way it was ment to be, its all good now. ^^

I think I'll join this competition. Sounds fun and I'm great at spelling and grammar.
Question: So all of someone's tuts should be under only 1 thread? With every new thread there should be a new post in that thread?
Lance

The prizes are sweet! But i know there's no way id win :P I don't know a whole lot about anything. (unless you can win for doing it in a creative colorful and easy to understand way?)
I will explain the judge process in details in a few days.
If your tutorial is easy to understand, (meaning you have succesfully passed the information/knowledge to other people), you will definitely have a better chance than some other person's tutorial which is full of tech-y terms.
The goal of the winning tutorial is to successfully pass through the knowledge to other person.
yes all your tuts should be under one thread (NEW THREAD, must be created after 28 Sept 2009).
If you have other tuts already, you can save it for now. But once you've copied the information from your other tut threads, you can choose to delete them (because your "bigger thread" contains the same information).

Wait what if I wanted to write a specific tutorial.. Maybe about how to make an autofighter. And I got into all the different ways to use srl to make an autofighter: monster detection(reflection, color, TPA's, ATPA's and such), hp detection, eating, antiban, stuff like that. Or does it have to be more like, how to setup scar / srl?
And in the first post you wrote "a tutorial WITH reflection will be evaluated same as a script WITHOUT reflection*"
it should be "a tutorial WITHOUT reflection" :P lol
Lol I am making a sub-category. So the normal people can write nice, easy to read and L33T tutorials and get some reward as well.
Ty, fixed.

1. Encouraging people to write in threads and forcing them to do so is silly. Threads are a horrible medium for tutorials. I think it would be a good idea to have people post in the SRL wiki and link to it from here (i dont know if there's a good place for it in the wiki, but wiki's are just so much better). If not encouraging it, allowing it would be good.
2. Im confused, I am allowed to just update a previous tutorial, with new knowledge and call that a new tutorial? Thats fine, i was just wondering.
3. Who is going to be grading them? 1 person grading is too few, and is prone to bias.
There is more than one grader ^^.
Also, not every one have access to the wiki. Thread is also easier to edit.

I deleted the posts to unclutter the thread :)
Every one must start at the same time (or less) or else it wouldn't be fair.
How ever they are allowed to reuse their own work (it is their option to delete the old thread).
Besides it is always better to have a fresh start.

The wiki may be true, but thread is no where easier at all.
So i can just add lots more new info to my form tutorial and enter that?

No more "how to setup scar and srl"-tutorials plx!
Soon there will be dozenz of them and only a few updated ones.
The best subject for a tutorial would be something specific, like
Attacking & Fighting Monsters
or
Writing Fishing procedures & functions
Hmm.
Thread Edit:

Wiki Edit:

Compare the results ^^.
If you are applying to the main competition, you will need to make a new thread. Period, unless your old thread title is something along the lines of (all in one scar tutorial…).
If you are applying to the sub competition, do w/e you want :sasmokin:.

yes, you can edit per section in wikis. You dont have to edit the entire thing at once. you basically just showed how much easier it is to read your stuff in wikis. =meow= is a first level header, its not quite so obvious in threads. Along with wiki's being 1000 times easier for the reader to navigate. Anyways, it doesnt matter, the rules are kinda vague and i probably wont enter just out of principle.
I'm in for this :)

just wondering if this is alowd, could i take my tutorials that ive already written and put them togeather to fill in the holes in the giant tut for this competition?
Yes.
Just make a new thread, plug every thing you have so far in there and then delete the old one. Because most likely your old tutorial thread's title isn't on the lines of "ALL IN ONE SRL…".

..so i am aloud to use my previous tutorials?
Yep.
Thats what I mean by "plug in what you have done so far".
Im a little confused, if i have the tut cup, i cant be eligible for any prizes?
Cuppers are eligible for the 4 month member ship and the monthly pins (Main competition).
In theory, a person that enters the main competition can win 7 month membership plus the account (Person with a cup can win everything but the account).
a person that enters the sub competition can win 3 month membership.

I know my mate cho3n has already written this CRAZY-ASS-LONG-TUTORIAL, but personally, I find it still lack examples and does not cover enough materials.
]Also all the informations are too crammed together.
For example:
In one post, cho3n talked about the wizzup plugin, then moved directly on to auto color. Those to topics were unrelated, it could've taken only 1 post (Its a lot better to have nice, short and well explained post rather than a long and crammed post, that will just confuse and scare new scripters).
Organize your tutorials with the post, make a post about a group related functions, then the next post about another group of related functions*
Also, there are some parts of his tutorial that could've been explained in-a-bit-simpler-way. Sometimes I even have trouble understanding some concepts.
*Final note*
I don't hate coh3n's tutorial, he has put HUGE AMOUNT of efforts into his AWSOME tutorial. But due to the recent start of the school, he had to cram his tutorial into a few weeks.
Which is why this contest will extend over TWO FULL MONTH. Because I don't want the contestants to rush, take your time…~More will be added tomorrow
I didn't cram it into a couple weeks, that's just how long it took me. I tried to be as clear as I could, if something was unclear I asked people to post about it so I could improve on it, so everyone could understand it clearly.
I worked really hard on that, and if someone was to cover EVERYTHING about SCAR and SRL I would praise them. You said that that guide lacked examples. Could you explain where? I'm almost positive that I used an example for every new concept I introduced. If I missed one, or one is unclear, I'd like to know which. ^.^
I have to go now, but I have more comments, I'll edit this post later.
Thanks,
Coh3n

Lol, thanks very much! But there is a lot of different things I plan on eventually expanding on and adding in, but that probably wont be for months!
From: Main_Ftw

That's the point. :) It's suppose to be open for interpretation and have many different possibilities to use the concepts. It wouldn't be much of a tutorial if it just showed one way of doing everything. That is why I tried to use as many different things in as many different ways as I could. For variety, and so people can use their imagination!
Also, what do you mean by "sample script"? Do you mean having the example functions inside a sample script?
Thanks,
Coh3n
EDIT: Since I rambled on off topic, I should say something relevant. :p If this competition gets big enough, you should think about talking to a mod/admin (or whoever can give cups), and see if it's possible to have the Tutorial Writer's Cup as a reward for those who don't have it already. Just a thought, but seeing as there's a cup for winning a scripting competition, why not this one eh?

So far my tut is 232 lines long :)
That is only SCAR basics and how to setup srl / SCAR.
24 pages in word so far
So, I don't really understand this sub competition. Say I submit a third of my tutorial. Basically a complete section on Basics, but name my thread like Everything in one Tutorial. If I improve it a lot the next month, I can win the sub-competition?
Do you mind explaining it a little more please ? :)

In the sub comp, you have to explain something like "how to chop down a tree using ATPAs" in great detail or something like that.
The sub competition is basically make a short and really awsome tutorial focused on 1 subject.
You CAN'T enter both competitions. only 1.

I was thinking about something a couple days ago, and haven't been able to post it until now. But I was reading about people talking about making specific tutorials such as "How to fish using TPAs", or along those lines. I think this is a bad idea. Sure, it will show people how to make their own scripts, but they can easily just copy the tutorial without really knowing what they're doing.
If we have a tutorial for every specific thing, there will no longer be any unique scripts from newer users. Not to mention the amount of members applications that will pop up, all with the same basic script that came from a bunch of different tutorials. This is exactly why I tried not to give too much away in my tutorial. I want people to still be able to use their imagination and think for their selves, and really understand what they are doing.
If we make tutorials on so many things, then it's just too easy. I guarantee there will be people who use a series of tutorial functions and put them together and call it their own script. This isn't hard to do, even if you have no idea what you are doing.
Also, I don't remember who said it, but I remember reading something about not having enough tutorials on the forums. To be honest, there has got to be a tutorial for almost everything. Even if there isn't one specifically for a certain subject, there's one close, and newcomers need to think to achieve what they want.
Hopefully someone who reads this knows what I mean. :) Don't get me wrong, it's great that people want to make tutorials and help other people out, but wouldn't it be much better to track the people down that have already made a similar tutorial, and improve on that one instead of making ten of the same?
Sorry if any of that made no sense, but hopefully someone gets it. :p
Thanks,
Coh3n

The point was that if there is a specific tutorial for EVERYTHING, then new scripting don't have to learn anything. All they would have to do is copy different tutorials into one script, and call it their own.
The judges and I do check.

I'm not talking about plagiarizing the tutorial they write, I'm talking about using the same functions found in all these tutorials and just putting them all in one script.
If we have so many tutorials, there isn't anything left for people to do on their own.

Say what? lol
The amount of content they have in the tutorial isn't nearly important as how well they've explained them thou.
That is what this competition is about,
some one can have a 20 post long tutorial, but if isn't easy to understand, they still = fail.

That if there's a tutorial for every
