Hey anybody know when reflection is gonna be fixed?
I know everybody's hard at work, but I thought i heard the goal time was this past friday…should it be available soon?

Method has said he does not have a date he'll be done by, he's a little busy, but is working on updating it. Just have patience, method will be done when he's done.

It breaks every update. But usually it only takes a couple of hours once Method gets on to be fixed. The problem with this update was that it completely rewrote a lot of the Runescape engine, so a new updating procedure has to be made.

It isn't offline every update, most runescape updates doesn't change that much to the hooks. Mostly just a few hooks are out of date.

Every update to the client completely changes the names of all classes and class members. All of them are out of date when the client updates.

All Method has to do is run his updater… then he'll have the latest hooks, but only the hooks that his updater can find.

He is still updating it to find all hooks.

Not that surprising. RSBot has a bunch of people working, while Method is the only one here who is working on updating reflection.

Try writing at a 6,700 line script and having it break a week later for 18 months.

People are very ignorant to think reflection is reliable as it is.

Break for 18 months? lol I don't think so (unless you are talking about some random time in the past I am not aware of).

Reflection is reliable. It's not like scripts without reflection didn't break with the recent updates… it just so happens that there are more people who know how to fix the issues that were broken, so it got fixed quicker.

We have 1 person working on this, and that's while managing school, sports, and hw and whatnot. That does not leave much time in the day, trust me I know (school 7:45 am to 2:40 pm, xc from 2:50 to 5:30-6, drive home 30 mins or more with traffic, take a break/start hw then dinner at around 7, then hw, sleep at 10-11).

Now I do not know exactly how updating the hooks is done, but from what I gather, if one or 2 people sat down and worked for a matter of hours it could be done. That's if they are completely changed, most likely if rs updates one just has to run their custom hook updater and then upload the new hooks (usually a matter of hours before someone notices the update and uploads new hooks). Making something like a small graphics update a much bigger annoyance for a color scripter compared to a reflection one.

No making new procedures or updating dtms or bitmaps or anything, just wait for new hooks and its up again.

I feel any downtime with reflection is worth it, it is much more accurate than color and gets things done faster.

As long as we have at least one active reflection dev who does updates, I think reflection will always be the best way to script.

…what?

Anyways, here's a Hooks.scar output (that isn't functional, I wouldn't suggest using it). The menu system needs to be updated inside the include, and the item and object systems probably need to be updated also once I figure them out.

Wow… see what I mean… you guys don't even know the about the history behind reflection. Reflection did break for 18 months.

Imagine if method wasn't here… it would probably anywhere from 3 months to a year and half before reflection would be fixed, and it's been awhile and it still isn't fixed.

Reflection is not reliable and it won't be long before jagex decides to do something even more drastic.

Reflection is a temporary solution, until people accept that it isn't going to be stable and be around for a long time there is going to be a lot of impatient people and down time.

It didnt so much "break" it just kinda died. Not to mention it wasnt as big back then either, not as much community support. As long as someone is there to update it, it will be used and reliable.

Ya, I'm sure reflection wasn't as popular as it is now. I mean, look at the biggest/most used Jr. Member scripts now. Tad's ess miner (and aio miner and fisher), Camaro's guild fisher, Tads fletcher… all of them are reflection and all of them have thousands of views and hundreds of replies. Reflection is used a lot now and some of the most popular and well made scripts use it.

Also, we have more than one active reflection dev. It just so happens that Method is the designated updater.

Reflection is not just a temporary fix, it is a better way to script for RS.

Of course there will be times where the game engine changes. It has done so multiple times in the past, and each time client hacking has progressed with it. Just because something takes time to come along doesn't mean it's dead. KYAB died, sure, reflection in general for RuneScape won't.

It's not so much rewriting the current system, it's writing an entirely new one that probably isn't too similar.

haha epic post, we're only completely rewriting the objects include most likely, for reflection, then probably going to update a lot of the other includes also. So even once the hooks are updated, don't be like, YES finally, reflection again, we're probably going to need to do quite a bit of updating, but shouldn't take to long after the hooks are done.

EDIT: lol, 'null.null' :p that was funny to see, I looked through the hooks and saw the updates, and the ones that needed updates marked with null, but it was funny to see the ones with .'s in them to say null.null haha I don't know why, just looked funny to me
