Weekly Scar league of problem solving

Summary of post:
I set a problem once a week, people submit solvers in Scar and the first and fastest submissions are awarded points that go to a league table of people. The problems have roots in maths and logic.

Long post:
Ok, well it is virtually a remake of an encryption and hashing competitiony thing I had a while back that some may remember. It had some success despite being run terribly and so I thought I would "revive" it with a more general theme and better organisation.

First of all, the problems. Like I said, maths and logic orientated as they should rely on skills that every scripter has and so it focuses on how well they can channel their skills and knowledge.
There will also be 2 problems every week - a hard and an easy one. They both contribute to the same league table, but easy problem gives fewer points.
Each person will be allowed 2 entries, with the 2nd entry having to be submitted within a day of the first and it means that the 2nd one is counted as the submission, so making it less likely to win the earliest submission points.
The 2 entries will not have to be for the same problem, but only the 2nd submission will be used, so if it is for a different one, then you are entered into that category.
The points awarded and the number of places that are awarded points will vary depending on how many people participate.
Plugins may not be used for entries.

As far as prizes go, unsure. I don't really have anything that anyone would want - I have like 4 accounts with mid 30 attack/strength/defence and that's about it. I quite like them though so probably won't give them away.

Um, if anyone has any questions of the like, do feel free to ask. This isn't going to be launched right away as this post is just to check on how interested people would be in it and see if anyone has suggestions for improving the event. Also, if you read this far, include the word 'lap' somewhere in your post so I know you didn't skim through :)

Good idea, although how about you make different tiers? Such as Tier 1 for the experts, Tier 2 for the intermediate and Tier 3 for the beginners. Since some people are Smarter than others.

Lap. :D

or, what if every one starts in tier 3, and you have to work your way up by gaining points to get the the better tiers :p

Perhaps. We don't if this is going to even come in place though…it would be great.

I like the idea, and like Awkwardsaw's idea as well.

Lap.

There are tiers - easy and difficult with easy just contributing less points for winning. I don't see the need to segregate more than that as I don't expect numbers to be in their hundreds.
If it does becomes the case, then I will adjust it to cope and one of the ways could be to completely separate the different levels with promotions and demotions. If I were to though, I would lap only do it after it did get enough people to make it needed otherwise I think leaving it open for people to choose is more important.
Sometimes even beginners will want to do the harder problems to push themselves or the better scripters will struggle with harder problems and instead go for more secure points.

So you want people to make a problem solving script? In math and logic? I have no idea how that would be done.. so I think I'd lose.

Ps- I'd like to give you a lap dance.

I won't join, but if I did everyone would script laps around me

I'd love something like this. I could always work more on my logic =)

No, I'm just checking to see that I haven't got anything wrong with my overall idea - I'll be producing the problems and the like myself unless other people are desperate to get involved :)

I like this idea. I would probably participate. Competitions like this usually fall right into my lap.

I'll participate if I like the challenge and if I got some time ofcourse :)

Thinking about it, do you think anyone would notice if I just used my maths homework as the sauce for the questions? I could save a bit of time and entertain a few people…

Otherwise, I'll see if I can get a mini question list going and I'll start the competition when I have a handful of decent ones, but it's much harder than it seems as maths & logic covers quite a large number of things :(

I can give some decent logic questions maybe….probably more physics than anything, and then it'd just take looking up the equations…lol

I dunno
