What should be done to the Jr. member rank?

Well right now it looks like the FFA section is going to receive many more working scripts. Whether it be all, or just non gatherers and powers, I think that the Jr. members group should change with it.

Some options:

1) Change the Jr. Members rank requirements. Possibly more longevity post count, maybe some new factor if you guys have any ideas.

—Why? Because if most (or all) scripts are going to be allowed in the FFA section, then the Jr. members rank will really have much less of a point unless it keeps more leechers out of it. That way, if somebody makes a great script that they don't want to be abused/leeched, they have somewhere to put it where it will still get some testing.

2) Completely remove the Jr. members rank (Nielsie, mixster, and Bam Bam voted for this in the other poll I believe)

—Why? - I don't think that this should happen, so I can't really say. If it is removed, then the scripters will have nowhere to put there scripts if they don't want them leeched. The only place would be the members section, where they will get very little use.

3) Do nothing to the Jr. member rank if the change to FFA section is made.

—Why? - Post some arguments if you think this please.

4) Other?

This is not an official poll obviously, but I do think that if the FFA section is given more, then the Jr. members section could use a change of requirements. What do you guys think?

BTW, I vote for changing the Jr. member requirements. Maybe make it like 25 or 30 posts, been here a few weeks, get like 10 points of reputation?

I dont like the post count idea, we all know that itll just be more spam =/. Rep is a good requirement though. (Just me talking here, dont know much about the ranks/requirements anyways)

But you do think that some requirements should be increased if all scripts are allowed?

Rep is a good one because it means they tested scripts and didn't spam. Scripters should give testers reputation each time they post a progress report with some feed back.

Longevity and reputation would probably be better than post count. The higher post count just means we have more time to find the spammers, and reset their post count.

Also, if we told scripters to give rep to people who tested scripts, it would give more of an incentive to provide feed back/progress reports when testing scripts (and would get them in the habbit of it as well for the future).

Non Bankers- Noobs
Bankers and better- SRL Member+

That's all i want.
There are just a few exceptions of people who cant script but still kickass by testing or being awesome some other way.

I like the rep idea. But of course we need people (scripters) to actively give out rep for the system to work. The rep system needs to be widely known about or people just simply won't give rep. Perhaps have your reputation appear under your username as you post or under your postcount.

Yeah, that's why I said we need to let the scripters know to do this then. I think it would increase feed back a considerable amount, and keep leechers out of Jr. members much better.

I wish only SSRL + could give out rep that would be nice :D
We can just call them happy points, for making us happy.
Get 10-15 happy points from an SSRL person, and you've got yourself access to bankers!

Lol, happy points.

But the creators of these scripts should be able to give out "happy points" in their own threads too. They would be more likely to spot people testing their own scripts than we would.

Yeah agreed, im just really out of it right now and dont wanna think, ill post more of my thoughts later. I just feel like rep isnt a good idea either because then everyone will just rep each other left and right, making Jr Members nothing special.

It should be removed. It promotes unnceccesary (these days anyway) segregation and is just an annoyance for new members. We wouldnt have anyone spamming to 10 posts if it was removed, and since RSBot's leap in popularity leechers wouldnt be a problem.

Would it be feasible to have jr reqs based on feedback? So that those that give progress/bug reports would have access to a section with better scripts, and scripters releasing scripts in that section would have better testers?

That's what I meant we could do with the reputation.

The scripters could just rep somebody for giving good feed back. Once they get enough rep, they become a Jr. member and get the new section.

If/once we make the change, there is no point to keeping the Jr. members rank the way it is because it hardly weeds out many leechers now. If reputation (feed back) was brought into the equation, the scripters would have 2 active places to put their scripts:

1) Put their scripts in the FFA section where there may be more leeching, but in turn more testing and feed back as well.

2) Put their scripts in the (revised) Jr. members section for a leech free area. Majority of people who test will provide feed back, and there will also be an active amount of people to test their scripts.

Rep Power goes like this I think -

+1 per 1k posts
+1 per 1 year longevity
+2 SRL Member
10 Default Administrator

Therefore, most people who have over 0 rep power probably won't abuse the system, at least not excessively, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, I think it's a great idea. Not only would it bring back a value in rep (maybe have some sort of reward for a lot of rep points, like +25x25 avatar size per 100 rep, to entice people to continue contributing), but it would also, like you said, bring an increase in usage and feedback.

If rep is actively brought it, then you also bring in people actively abusing and complaining about it. What would stop people with large amount of rep power like Harry and Nauman de-reping one person, meaning they have to get twice as much rep as normal for a silly reason? What else would stop people giving their friends rep to get into Jr. What's more is giving further incentives will mean that people could organise rep groups where they rep each other so that they all gain large amounts of rep, which was a problem when rep was used for instant SRL Member a long time ago I believe.

those under JM don't have any repping power.

I don't think there'd be that much abuse. You have to rep something like 5 people before repping the same person again, and I doubt enough people would abuse it that there'd be enough to form groups. There could be a rule instituted for no rep groups or random rep. Even though it can't really be monitored, it would deter people from doing so.

Members with a lot of rep power could be a small problem, but I don't think that Harry or Naum would be that immature to go around random de-repping people. If it's for a good reason, then that's the other guy's fault.

As for friends repping people into Jr. Members, I don't think that'd be a major problem. The requirement shouldn't be too high, maybe 25. In that case, they'd be able to achieve it before really making any friends on SRL. If one comes along who's already a friend of someone, then so be it. That doesn't happen too often.

As RM said, registered users can't rep each other, so that's a good thing.

And the rep power was a problem I foresee with this too. I don't think that 1 person should be able to give more rep points to somebody in this case for feed back.

The ideal system would be an extra button for "feed back points". Any SRL member can give a feed back point to a Jr. member for giving good feed back on a script, and only 1 feed back point could be given per post.

To make it easier, we need to think of a way to do this just as effectively using reputation to accomplish the same goals: create an incentive to supply feed back, and make Jr. members more leecher free.

Is it possible to reset rep and/or rep power levels? Is it possible to prevent one post from getting multiple reps?

We could use a thanks mod instead, and maybe rename the Thanks to something else, and only grant Members and thread authors the permissions to use it.
