General Black Market Tips

1) Ask for a confirmation PM before ALL sales. Even if you know that it is the correct msn address, you need to make sure that you are talking to the true owner of the villavu account. Just have them send you a quick pm before doing any exchanges.

2) Get to know the people you are trading with. Talk to them on msn , even if it is not Runescape related. You can usually get a pretty good idea of somebody's maturity and intent just by having a short conversation with them.

3) If you are not confident that your trade will be successful, use a trusted middleman.

4) Make sure that terms for both sides of the deal are clear before any transaction is made. Go through the check list with the person: This is what's going to happen. I send you $10 via paypal as type gift. You log onto Runescape right after and buy 7.5M worth of my junk (etc).

5) Get as many screen shots as possible of information relevant to the trade. If you do not have proof that a member here scammed you, then they most likely will not be banned.

6) Be smart and use common sense. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Post if you have something you think I should add.

Very nice, there are a lot of good pointers in there, I'm glad you made this. I've never really used any type of black market so I'll definitely be taking these steps into consideration.

2) With paypal transactions, select payment type 'gift'. This does two things: They will not be able to recover the money/scam you. It also means that paypal will not take a fee out of your earnings. This means if somebody sends you $10, you profit the whole $10.

Not exactly true. When you gift there is an option to pay the fee or let the reciever pay it.

They CAN recover it. PayPal has to follow the credit card laws of the country. Therefor if they have paid with a credit card they can simple go down the bank and say it was a fraudulent transaction and PayPal WILL take the money off you.

Remember that you can NEVER prove that you sent the item. PayPal is not interested in any type of logs. Only thin they are interested in are Signed/Verified Postal companies. Eg, Royal Mail / UPS etc..

PayPal is NOT as safe as you think it is. Always be careful.

Ive had alot of experience with PayPal, taking around £4,000 a month through there and they are not safe at all lol. Been scammed countless times.

That doesn't make me too comfortable about using PayPal. Are their any safer alternatives?

They all follow the same laws. GoogleCheckout etc, all the same.

Massive tip would be to make sure the transaction is NOT from a credit card. If its from their balance then you are fine.

I would recommend using MassPay, BUT you require a personal/premier account for that, not sure if all of you would have it.

They could use a credit card then 1 month down the line recall it saying it was fraudulent.

Ive had a chargeback and the sale date was over 2 months ago lol

Alright well that's a good tip about the credit card, thanks. I'll be sure to be careful when I do decide to do all this. :)

The safest way is through the mail. Many people here can only do paypal though (at least for me), so just try to pick somebody who is very trusted if you are going to use paypal.

I, too, have been scammed many times through paypal. A guy sent me $200 for 85M, he went first, claimed and canceled, I woke up the next day and he recovered it. I felt so sick.

Just trade with the right people, and don't do sales/purchases in too large of increments like I did. Very few people will risk their account being banned over a $10 transaction, but when it gets into the hundreds, you have to be very careful.

Thanks a lot, that was actually really helpful. :) Sorry to hear about that scam though. When he recovers it… is that a result of using a credit card? Or can you do that any time?
