Me and Zeph kind of talked about this a little on msn about a week ago.
It really seems much too complicated and time consuming to download everything. Subversions/Tortoise, Reflection, SRL through the SvN's, new SCAR versions, SMART, moving the plug ins… Many users may get frustrated and leave (I know I would have).
What if there was a script made that had an all in one. It would connect to the web, update/download SMART, Reflection, and the latest SRL, with a constant asking if you wanted developers or public. Maybe it could also check if there was a new version of SCAR and ask if you wanted to download that.
Would a script like this, or similar to this, be at all possible? There's just got to be some easier way to download all of this stuff without the problems.
If it also came in the scripts section of the SCAR folder that would be even more convenient. Or if it is made the original default script. (I don't know if either of these things would happen)
Thoughts, suggestions, questions?

I think its a good idea. We have installers for Reflection and I've seen installers for SRL. If we could combine them and somehow move the plugins too then thats pretty much it. I tried to make the SRL installation process as easy to follow as possible with the sticky in SRL FAQ and the wiki article an all in one installer sort of thing would be great at least until the new members are more familiar with SRL and able to use Subversion.

I agree on this. There are a few of them out there that people have made themselves but I think if there is an official SRL one then that would brush away any distrust in it. I think its a good idea.

How about AutoIt v3? The old version of hitmanpro was made in AutoItv3, it downloaded a bunch of virus scanners, installed, and scanned.

I've asked Freddy, and with SCAR 3.5 or whatever he said he'll include Reflection in his pile of supported includes (though if he remembers or not is another matter). He also said that he's planning on making it so that SCAR doesn't need subversion and instead just downloads snapshots from his server.
If everything turns out well, like plugins getting auto-moved and such, I think a lot of the hassle should be removed as it's more of a "check SRL and reflection when you run it for the first time" instead of "install this, this, this, and this, go to this menu, push these buttons, run this script, and then click this other button" :)

And when is 3.5 due? I say an installer doesn't sound like a bad idea, but don't make it download any scripts along with the needed stuff.

I thought Freddy stopped supporting SRL after my joke?, did he change his mind?
I agree on this anyhow ^^

That's where the "I don't know if either of these things would happen" came in. It would be really convenient, though.

Doesn't mean it has to install SCAR.
Why can't people install SCAR by themselves and this will install SRL, reflection, svn, smart, etc all for them

Intalling SRL is no longer a simple download and extract process, you have a lot of things to do before, during and after download not including installing reflection too.

Na, it's easy
Install SCAR
go to http://www.villavu.com/snapshots/
extract
done :)
Install SCAR
Go to Snapshots
Find the latest rev in amongst all the other revs and files.
Download, extract in the
correct directory.
Find all the plugins.
Move plugins to Plugins.
+ All the ref stuff which I cbfed typing out…
Point is its not as simple as before.. and we need to encourage new members to join and use SRL not make it hell for them to get working.
