The Man - Plagiarize
Yay. More drama…
He stole my idea for making money and is trying to sell it. Tad (who would like to remain anonymous to The Man) messaged me with conclusive evidence on it. He says that "his brother" came home and told him about the method after TM purchased it from me (bs).
He also says that the cap for profits is 3M. When I had it in my signature, I was just giving a rough estimate, since there is really no cap on how much you can make. He was just advertising it the same way I was…
I HATE scammers and thieves, so I am not very happy about this. I gave him 1 infraction for plagiarism, but it didn't do anything (no temp bans for 3 points anymore?). I'd have to give him another one to ban him, and am asking for permission to here.

Yeah even though he probably knows it was me, I'd like it if you guys wouldn't tell him up front :cartman:

Can't say I'm surprised. I also didn't understand why he didn't get a temp ban back when he had 3+ active infraction points.

Yeah, he already had
6 infractions before this. If breaking the rules to obtain RSGP deserves a permanent ban, then certainly breaking the rules to obtain real life money should.

BTW, the 3 infraction point = temp ban thing doesn't work with SRL Members+.

Woops didnt realise this was in SSRL rofl, I'll open it again
Thank you for temp banning him.
But how is stealing real life money less of a crime than stealing Runescape pixels? Man from Czech, The MOB, Hey321…etc. have all been banned for life (even though they came back..) for stealing Runescape pixels. The Man steals real life money, gets a 2 week ban, but gets to keep his members status.
I guess he does get the cup stating that he is untrustworthy, but I would like to see him need to reapply for membership when he returns.

As i've stated before, I'm on holidays, just saw that a ban was in order, didn't think too much of length, ranks etc. Make a poll, then once a decision is reach a final ban can be given.

The important thing though is that he KNEW he was selling Jad's method. If he had no idea it was Jad's method (which is actually fairly widespread, anyhow…) he should be banned.
Although, chances are he knew it was Jad's method by guessing and decided to sell it aswell. What is wrong with that?

I sold him the method before. I have proof of it too in PM's here if necessary.

Ok. And? You can't patent an idea, only a process or implementation. If he wishes to sell it as well, it is a problem between you and him, with which no one else needs to be taken into. You may also not use the forum to punish him.

We don't want scammers here, and stealing somebody's idea for your own personal profit is considered scamming. I am not patenting an idea, but he agreed that he would tell nobody else of the method when he purchased it.
This is pretty off topic, but you can patent an idea…

It depends on what an 'idea' is. Like I said, you can not patent and abstract thought, you can patent it's implementation. Likewise, you can not patent a material, only the process to get to said material.
And, yes, you are trying to "patent" an idea. This idea is also in no way yours, I heard about it like two years ago. So you are, then, stealing someone else's idea for profit.

I am not stealing someone else's idea because I never bought it from somebody else. If The Man was selling the guide without buying my guide it would be ok then. Your mind is obviously set though, so I won't try to change it anymore..

JAD had the implementation of making a guide for it and selling it. This is the process to get to Millions of RS Gold.

To be honest I'm with R0b0t on this….
Jagex created the situation that somehow allows this guide to work (I don't know what the guide is, I haven't read it). JAD has seen the possibility of making some money with it and has written a guide. Lots of people could have also seen it (The Man included) who then has written their own guide. We can't say that JAD, because it was him who released the guide first, has 100% rights over it then ban everyone else for trying to do the same thing JAD is doing.
I don't know the reasons behind The Man buying JAD's guide but unless what hes trying to sell is a copy of JAD's guide you can't call it plagiarism. Plagiarism is taking someone's work without crediting. If The Man has written his own guide then thats not plagiarism even if it may be very similar to JAD's. Are we certain that it is actually JAD's guide that he's selling?

Is it just me or does nobody seem to be looking at the msn screenshots I posted above :cartman:
He stated the he bought JAD's guide then took the idea and started selling it to others. There's the part with his 'brother' knowing about it, but first of all, even if he did, that's still wrong because he learned it from JAD. Second of all, that brother story sounds exactly like a 'my brother did it'.

If they wouldn't have known the method in the first place (without buying my guide), then I don't think that they should be able to sell it.
I have no problem with people selling my guide if they knew the method before I did. I have no rights to the method, because I know that I am not the only one who uses it. I personally have a problem when people (who did not find out the method on their own) take credit for the idea and try to profit from it, even though I told them about it.
If The Man wasn't selling information that he got from me, then I would have no problem with it.

dont people in university get punished for plagiarism if they take an idea from somewhere and do not credit the source? im with jad and tad on this one.

R0b0t1 pulling out the ownage :p Logically, R0b0t1 is right, ethically, not so much. Unless it was the exact same guide, word for word that he was selling.
Edit: Now I read the thread fully, since The Man bought JAD's to find the method, and then decided to make a guide and sell it, rightfully its JAD's property since he was the original owner of the intellectual rights to it in this small circle of rs players.

Do we know conclusively that The Man did NOT know of this "method" before he bought JAD's guide? If so (ie he admitted) then you could call it plagiarism (if he didn't credit JAD explicitly in his guide). If not then you can't just assume he learnt everything from your guide.

Tad Says: wait so it is the same thing…?
The Man Says: he made 300m in one month :O yeh it is
Then the rest of the conversation he implies that he bought it
before 'his brother told him' by saying things like
He told me the way like 2 weeks ago and i was like. do you know a guy called jad lol?
how would i know that it was same guide? so if i was selling my guide before, then bought his guide and it was same, i wouldnt be able to sell mine anymore?
EDIT: I see on the other thread you said you're against doing anything because we don't know whether it was the same guide word for word; I'd say it doesn't matter if it's word for word. The
idea of it is what JAD was selling, not an amazingly written guide worth a whole lot just because of how it was written.
I think he would've mentioned it if he already knew about JAD's "moneymaking method" when he bought the guide? Atleast I would've mentioned it if my "brother" (surprisingly enough not "friend") had told me about it "like 2 weeks ago" before I got the guide? And I don't think he was selling his guide before he bought JAD's one? So if he considered the method worth selling and already knew about it then why didn't he start selling it "like 2 weeks ago" and instead bought JAD's and noticed "oh boy what a coincidence it's the exact same thing" and then started selling it?
And in my opinion that's extremely rude, especially the fact that (pretty obviously to me) he was knowingly selling a in a way "stolen" guide and still bothered to put up that huge drama about how he was "scammed". Or how would you take it if just hypothetically SRL started supporting selling of scripts and someone decided to buy a script and then cracked it and put in his own auth system and started selling it forward as his own? To me it's pretty much exactly the same thing..
Also, I think that if there's going to be a black market on SRL people need to be more critical and "grow a spine" when it comes to banning people, especially if the black market will come to public use this sort of crap will be an every day thing, and I don't think anyone has the time or will to deal with 10 page drama threads and then some "secret" threads about what action will be taken and againts who on daily basis..
E: And what comes to "punishment" I'd say Jr. Member him.. Oh, and instead of this "need conclusive proof that he did it" speculation ask him for some conclusive proof that he didn't do it? That "friend/brother/cousin did it" is the oldest excuse in the book, and 99% of scammers will tell the same story if asked for proof that they didn't do it.

All of that he was just talking about hypothetically. I believe he actually bought the guide ~3 weeks ago, then supposedly his brother came home (~2 weeks ago). On the screenshots, he did not deny buying JAD's guide
before 'his brother told him'/he started selling it.

So wait, your best response is he is selling the implementation? This does not sound like the case, it is most likely he is selling a different implementation.
And in any case, this thread is about him selling the idea.

There is no need to get hung up on the semantics of ideas, documents, implementations, etc if there was an agreement to not spread the idea during the original sale.

Selling the idea and selling the implementation are two very different things. If he was selling JAD's guide 100% for arguments sake, that is selling the implementation - JAD worked hard writing the guide and creating the script. However the idea itself cannot be claimed by JAD 100% as it is widely advertised (by widely I mean not exclusively by JAD). You cannot ban The Man for simply getting the idea and implementing it himself.

But that's the thing; He got the idea from buying JAD's guide, and agreed to not give it to anyone. If that can't be called plagiarism, it's a betrayal of trust, which is just as bad in this case.

So if I started selling it, given that I did not get the idea from JAD but JAD has the same idea and I know this, I would be plagiarizing? That's the problem, if you say one thing it sets precedent, which people will expect to be upheld.
I used this example b/c the idea is arbitrary, JAD should only be able to bitch if he was selling the guide word-for-word. JAD may ask him to stop selling it [his version of the guide], but he is in no way required to.

That would be fine because as you said,
you did not get the idea from me.
The Man only knows about the idea because of me. He would not know about it otherwise. The Man also agreed not to tell anybody about it. If there was no agreement and he got the idea on his own then it would be okay. You did none of these things, so it is a completely different situation. You never agreed to me not to tell anybody about the method, and you didn't hear about this method from me first.
I'm done trying to convince you R0bot… You're obviously not seeing how the 2 situations you are comparing are completely different.

If he did indeed break the verbal/text agreement to not tell others or sell as in this case then yes its total plagiarize regardless how he resells the guide. Technically this could be taken to small claims court just like any other agreement verbal or otherwise (in the US).
Its more of him breaking the agreement which in this case would be the higher claim and plagiarizing attached on top of it.
If he can prove he sold the guide before JAD (which I don't see) then he would have a defense.
