Peoples Attitude

I'm most recent apps there seems to be a lot of flaming/terrible attitude going on, can someone tell me why it is such a big deal when someone applies with no script? i mean it is annoying but what if it was genuine mistake? and when this does happen why do people feel compelled to flame? it seems like you are trying to say that your a so much better than them just because your name is yellow?

some people really need to change their attitudes, how would you like it if when you first registered and applied with a simple script or no script at all, so then members started flaming you? do you think you would want to stay at the forums and learn scar? or even want to contribute

these definitely need to be read

reading these will help

Agreed.

Also, I think something needs to be done about people applying with no script/script that isn't close to the standard's we're looking for (Which, in my opinion, isn't their fault – It's ours for not making it clear enough). I know this has been brought up a thousand times before, but how hard could it be to either make a lengthier description under the Apply button, or a message popup that would briefly explain to purpose of SRL Members. This would not only help us, but it would also keep these relatively new users from getting flamed when they apply, something which, like you said, might discourage them in the future. Another solution might be to simply move the Apply button to Jr. Members.

This has been said to many times, I think punishment will be the only fix.

Exactly, I am getting annoyed by all the people that make a thread as… this one and say 'are you getting so annoyed by people applying without scripts?' then I want to ask you 'are you getting annoyed about the people who post to explain people that they(Appliers) can't post one without a script?'
Tbh, the second one is even more annoying since, threads and a lot of threads get created that more annoying than a little post.

Just ignore both?
Just ignore me?

"I am sorry, but SRL Members is a scripters-only group and therefore you need a script to apply"

"Go fuck yourself you lil n00b, and learn how to script scar"

See any difference between the two, Hermen?

Maturity is a hard skill to gain when there is a forum of usually young teenagers. I do not so much think that punishment is the right way to get both those who apply and those who respond to play by the rules. Setting the record straight and possibly more monitoring of the apps section - maybe with existing mods+ taking a bit of extra time to double check as well as members making more of an effort to report threads with no scripts/scripts with no quality.

As an issue, it is not the most serious, so suggesting serious alterations seems a bit over the top for me. Attitude changes can be achieved without resorting to banning or infractions.

What the are you talking about?
That is exactly what it's supposed to do…(the first one)
That is not relevant with what I said.
I said in a nutshell he should stop Complaining about other people complaining because else I am going to complain about people complaining that are complaining that other people are complaining.
Yes, that ^ was not a joke.

No reason to post. Just report the post saying 'No script.' or something. No need to vote, either. A mod/admin will tell the person what they need to know.

Well, the mod / admins do have alot of better things to do than posting in apps telling the applicant what to do; Why can't you/we do it for them? ;)

I agree, the attitude of the SRL Members must become better.

If they have "better things" to do than write up a post or template for a post in a minute, I'm not sure why they would have time to look at reported posts and close the application at all. Plus, most recent ones I've seen have included a post by a moderator explaining what the problem was.

Where's YoHoJo (application's moderator) when you need him? :p

Agreed, if he doesn't appear on his work, he will be fired and we'll need a new one. :)

it has nothing to do with complaining about people complaining that to many people apply with no script, what needs to change is what people post, more and more often people are flaming in membership apps it reflects poorly on the rest of the SRL members

Wow just pisses me off that people apply without scripts, in this case this person hasn't even attempted to learn scar but still wants to apply.

Why must you be so stupid you need a proper script to apply. All you are doing is wasting time of SRL members. You should READ before applying

i mean is that really acceptable? post like this is why i made this thread

I agree, posts such as posted above are not acceptable.

If a person has posted an application with no script then if the first poster could just report the post?. Reply with No Script = No Members.

But why do people have to reply when the problem has already been stated? Trying to boost post count?.

that is all that is needed, obviously seeing as the age at this forum is young people are going to be immature but its happening way to much to use that as an excuse, i think some people become members and it really does go to their head they forget that everyone starts somewhere

i really dont see what is achieved by adding those comments? it makes no sense to me

i dont even know if this thread will change anything but i thought it would be a good idea to make this more public and see how many people thought the same way i do

There is always going to be the problem of immature members amongst us.

Since we check for peoples attitude while they are applying, surely it still applies to current members.

If a member is not giving SRL Members the right image then they should be stricken of their rights and move back down to Junior Member untill they can prove they can behave.

Bonfield

2009-08-24 17:19:20

it should still apply to current members but it doesnt seem to, i mean i have voted yes on apps based on attitude and a half decent script because you know they will want to learn more to prove themselves

that is a good idea in theory but then who would be the judge of what behaviour deserves a ban/demotion but i do think something needs to be done about this but i there is no way i can think of stopping this, because when it all comes down to it we are on the internet and i would hate to see it go to a point where the majority of posts are censored

does ayonoe else have any veiws on this topic or suggested actions to stop any of this ie ways to stop blank app to possible punishments for repeated flaming

Once again with demotions and punishments - it doesn't have to be negatively forcing people into line with the norm.
Rep people who post decent posts on fail apps or send them pm's saying you're happy they have the right idea.
Make public posts praising them - I do not really see this and it's a shame. I think people who do good should be recognised, but I guess I am just as guilty for not doing so.
Apologise on behalf of the SRL Members if their app is going a bit flamey - hopefully once people see it, they will realise that they maybe went overboard and apologise too, or it will repair some of the damage at the least.

Just a few suggestions and people may not agree with them, but I think they all have their valid points and I would much rather see this than people being demoted and infracted/banned.

Judging is simple. Senior members of SRL / Admins / Mods should notice these and raise the issue.

If theres a major problem i dont see why cant just create a thread about the peron/perons and why you think they are out of line.

+1

I agree. Demotions, negative punishments, etc. are not completely necessary. Just continue to lay back, honor the good people, and set yourself as an example. People learn, honestly ;)
