What is Reality?

Well today i went to go hang out with my friends and some how we got on the topic of our existence and how life is.
What we where thinking was that our dreams are reality for other dimensions. You know when you wake up in the middle of the night when you had a dream of something that happened to you that felt so real? Well what if it is real? Like when you go to sleep you see yourself in other dimensions. We thought of this because you know how its said that you only use 10% of your brain? what if the other 90% are being used, but to store a whole other version of your life from a different dimension? How do you know know that while you are awake, you in a different dimension isn't dreaming of what is happening to you?
This was very hard for us to explain, and I'm trying the best i can to do so.
What i want to be discussed here is if life is just a real dream? What I'm trying to say is what if someone is dreaming you read this post here, and they are gonna wake up and think you where a dream and vise versa.

No clue, but I'd like to point out that the whole "you only use 10% of your brain" isn't accurate. You use all of your brain, just not all at once.

Since you said not at once, does that mean it could be possible for us to use it to store a whole other side of your life and when we dream we are using it to look into our other dimension?

I don't think so. The different parts of our brain all have their assigned function, pretty much like a computer, but with all parts working as stand-alone components..
I've thought about it too before, but I don't think what you're saying can be a realistic scenario.

How do you explain those dreams that feel so real then? That's because they are real but they are not our reality, well they are, but from ourselves in a different dimension.

Dreams are nothing but chemical reactions in your brain that can be objectively observed with the right equipment. To say that these chemical reactions are actually separate dimensions is against everything I, and probably the observing scientists, have ever learned.
To answer your question of why they feel so real is, that is a subjective "reality" (a bit of an oxymoron). There is nothing material to it; it just feels real because your brain is making it feel real.

Firstly,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10%25_of_brain_mythSecondly, its thought that the thing that makes you dream is a psychadelic drug naturally produced in our brain called DMT which is released during sleep.
If you wanna talk about other dimensions, read about quantum physics. :)

as of dreams, i lucid dream every night, therefore i know alot. I do not believe it is another reality, but dans story is interesting, he got a ciggarete burn from telling a dream charector she was not real and it followed him into the real world. Personaly i think dreams are just rem, im not a scientific person but i have to say i dont think im in another dimension. Astral Projection however is very trippy. I have had conversations with dc's and i think there only figures of our imageination.
As of your feeling it was real, the brain only makes it feel that way as you have sences (dream food is very good). I am a christian, but i know this is reality as im reading and responding to your post and if this was not reality then this would not be real and i would only be speaking to myself.

basically, in your dreams you shag a hot chick, where's in life, your stuck working or at school, hence, for the hot girl scenario the term; "in your dreams" is an accurate location for such a thing.

Since I have once read a method to control what allows you to know you are in the middle of a dream, and thus be able to control what you want to do in your dream. It is epic. ^^

Simple. You make a "reality check".
In dreams clocks never go right. Your hand has weird fingers and you can breath through your nose, while holding it tight shut (with your hand..).
I've been practicing "lucid dreaming" for a while, that requires techniques to "check" if you are in a dream or not :)..
And when you made a "reality check" and found out that you actually are dreaming, you have the option to influence your dream or create your own scenarios :). I had quite some … fun… XD….
Hope this clarifies everything :)

The reason it seems to real is that your brain really thinks your seeing it. The part that you see real things with is that part that you see stuff in your dreams.

Dreams are illogical, improbable, strange, and controllable from the observer and creator, therefor they are not reality, what separates dreams from reality is reality is our closest interpretation of our surrounding environment while-as dreams are created from selected portions of reality and fiction movies we watch on TV.

what is reality? its nothing, just a word we have in our dictionary that is kinda meaningless, but helps us see things in a way our 3D thinking brains can understand.
reality i believe is the same as the word "is"
the cat is brown
the cat exists as an idea that can be compared to brown
the reality of the cat is that one of its attributes are brown.
im pretty bad at explaining this but theres a philosophy about words and how they are kind of meaningless

Well i practiced it for nearly a year ;). It takes some time to get results, but its worth the journey. You will also learn more about yourself and dreaming in general.

All my family, my friends, and everything else I love is not only meaningless, but NOTHING too? I don't live for nothing, and I don't think you do either.

Every one dies in the end.. You, your family and friends.. So you basically are living for nothing.

If you must ask this question you don't care much about the answer.

You can do stuff in your life. You can make people happy, save a life, fall in love, give another person or people life, and care for them, etc.. Those all seem like more than nothing.

Reality is our perception of the elements of the universe. Some we can perceive (aka light), while others we cannot. The brain acts as a filter for this stimuli, and sends signals to our body, acting as our consciousness. Dreams is the brain's way of analyzing, interpreting, and deciphering the events of that day. Oftentimes, a person will have a dream that shows an alternate ending, or maybe there will be two elements of your day that then become blended. All of this is your brains chemical filter working to figure out everything that happened, and the relationships between them.
This is just my own thoughts, they might not necessarily be true, but I like to think that they are close :)
