Marking Scheme

What I have Marked you on

All the scripts were marked using the same criteria, and I marked them at the level that I would have expected from someone with a Scriter's Cup. Below is a short summary of how you were marked.

1. Technique (/100)

This relates to what type of loops you have used where, how you decided to load all of those variables, if you used types correctly etc.

2. Individuality (/100)

This refers to whether your scripting style is your own or not. The more individual your script is, the better it is for you, because this means you really understand what all of the different procedures / functions / types / methods should be used for. it means you are relying less on other people, and are developing your own style.

3. Follow all SRL rules (/100)
This reffers to breaking out of infinite loops, breaking out of loops/procedures if your character is not logged in, the script being multiplayer, etc.

4. Creativity (/100)

How creative was the script, how different was it to everyone else's, was it what I was expecting the mass to do, or did yours stand out of the crowd?

5. Efficiency (/100)

This is the thing I am most strict about. The more efficient the script is, the better it is. Why constantly write out procedures when you can use a simple repeat instead? Are you using "end else" when needed? Do you have duplicate functions? Are you freeing DTMs / bitmaps after finishing with them? The more efficient your script is, the better it will run, and the easier errors will be to fix when they arise.

6. Presentation (/100)

Presentation of a script is always important! And this should be easy marks. There are only 4 categories. Do you have a respectable title page? A decent progress report? Good scripting standards? Commented procedures and functions? (which is the one everyone always forgets!)

7. Meeting all Requirements (/100)
Does your Script sell in Rimmington? Does it have Multiplayer? Does it mine tin, copper, iron and gold? Is it able to run with the pickaxe in the inventory or equipped? Does it have antirandoms, antiban and a progress report? If so you just earnt yourself 100 points free of charge.

8. Added Extras (/100)

What extra features did you include in your script? The more that are in there, the better it is. Be careful though, because including extra features which don't work / aren't efficient could get you marked down in other categories!

What do I Expect of the judges?

1. Technique (/100)
2. Individuality (/100)
3. Follow all SRL rules (/100)
4. Creativity (/100)
5. Efficiency (/100)
6. Presentation (/100)
7. Meeting all Requirements (/100)
8. Added Extras (/100)

And a small 1-3 line comment on each and why have you given that grade for it. Presenting Script Snippets is always nice.

I am more interested in what you write than on the actual grade you give.

Here is an example: (Notice: of course you don't have to make yours this colorful! )

1. Technique (80 / 100)

Very good technique, good use of Types, although you could've it them for the rocks as well. Extremely good use of math and logic, although one of your calculations was wrong. Very good auto responder, and Setup Auto respond. But there are times when an if would've been better used than a case and you still went for the case. When it's a simple true/false an if as a better choice.

finally, there was just a little something that would've been the chery on top of the icing:

case Capitalize(Rock) of
'Iron': //...
'Copper': //...
'Tin': //...
'Gold': //...
else: begin Writeln('ERROR: Rock Type Not Recognized'); TerminateScript; end;
end;

you can use else in a case ;) Some points were taken away for bad use of FindGas(x,y) as looking through your code it looks like you expect it to save the gas coordinates to (x,y), while what it actually does is check if there is gas at (x,y)

2. Individuality (95/100)

Very few would've been able to do such a script, and you use a wide variety of functions and procedures from the SRL Include, showing that you don't just use the same one's as everyone does, and you also choose well when to make a function and the looping you do shows you clearly know what you are doing.

3. Following SRL Rules (60/100)

This was a part that i was strongly disapointed with. Breaking out of loops and etc was fine, but a few more functions needed that if not loggedin then exit; failsafe. I don't know how you expect to get the compass angle while logged out. But what pushed this grade don so much was the bad use of multiplayer. The switching of players is fine although i hate it for being random, but the fact that ALL the players have to mine the SAME rock is something that you could have very easil overpassed. Players[CurrentPlayer].Strings[0] = 'iron';

4. Creativity (90 / 100)

Very creative, lots of innovative functions created, uncommon techniques used.

5. Effieciency (80 / 100)

Possible Infinite loop in WalkToStore, cases used when it should've been if, some variables would've been better as arrays, and, in a case, when you have a long list of numbers such as "3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10" you can just do "3..10"

6. Presentation (70 / 100)

Script header was minimal, progress and player reports aren't quite presentable, standards are perfect, comments were fine.

7. Meeting all Requirements(100 / 100)

You met all the extra requirements.

8. Added Extras (80/100)

Extremely good auto-responder. SRL Stats, GJ. Smart, although you don't leave the option of not using it.

Total Score: (655 / 800) = 81%

Perhaps judges can keep their marks and comments to themselves until everyone has finished marking. That way your marks don't influence or get influenced by another judge's.

I think this is a good idea, so people can't make a person's grade be worse then it would've been, but I think we should still discuss scripts if we feel the need or want to.

By all means discuss. However keep all grades and percentages hidden.

Also I'm not sure if Rasta Magician wanted you guys to test run the scripts or not. Normally that would be ideal however I doubt many of these scripts compile now, let alone run smoothly.

we can look at the comp date, and go back in rev, it could be possible to test, I guess we'll leave it up to Rasta Magician if we bother to try to go back in rev and test or not.

Agreed, Agreed, no script running. No point now as you said.
