A group between SSRL and SRL members

I'm pretty sure that this has been discussed before, but I think that a group between SSRL and SRL members would be really good right now for keeping people active.

There are many people in SRL members who almost deserve SSRL but are missing just a few things (being too new, lack of scripting…etc.). I think that some members deserve something more than SRL members, such as Senrath, Nadeem, and Home. It would also be cool to give a new group to some oldies that are still around like LaBo/Janilabo, Abyssal…etc.

A new group would give people something to work for and more of a reason to stay active here. I think that a lot of great SRL members get lost in the croud, and this would be a good way to give them some recognition for the hard work they've put in here. It would also be a place that may not be 100% leak free like here (since very high maturity may not be as required there), but it would be much better than regular members.

Me and RM were talking about it on msn and thought it may be a good idea. What do you guys think?

Too many hidden forums already, no thanks.

Rather than creating a new forum, why not change the requirements for SSRL?

Sounds like a decent idea. Would they be secret like SSRL or would their rank be shown? If accepting users into this group wouldn't be up to them (would be polled by SSRL+, which seems better anyway), then it seems as if there'd be no point in keeping them secret, right?

We could give SSRL a real rank and just tell everyone that only devs/admins can vote now :)

I don't think that it should be hidden. And by change the requirements for SSRL, you mean lower them? That would just flood too many people into here and risk the leak free forums we take for granted.

@Runescapian, I think that the people of the forum+ could vote on it. Or it could be application based (but if application based I do not think that the applicants should be able to view their applications).

@Widget, doing that would really not be related to this idea or be necessary for it to work. That's a whole different topic ;)

I think that people need something to work for once they get SRL members. But it needs to be attainable. There are many members most of these things:

activity
longevity
maturity
great scripting skills
helpful
tutorial writers
whatever

But are just missing one key requirement such as not being SRL member for long enough or not super mature yet. These people still deserve something and they need some recognition for what they've accomplished. After being at the same point of the hierarchy for a long time, people get bored and leave. We need to keep people active and I think that this is a great way to do it.

So you're saying it should be made public that these members have the rank, but they can also vote others into the group? I was under the impression that's the exact reason SSRL is secret, no?

Well SSRL was secret so that people wouldn't just start contributing to get a new rank. Now that everyone knows that another group exists, I guess it is so we don't get bothered about it. Maybe application (that the applicant couldn't view) would be a better idea then.

No. They will be noticed without the rank. They can just wait till SSRL

Honestly i just pointed out few things that were not so well thought out when you asked me about it, i didn't *really* contribute to the idea.

no no no nono non nono nonon nono
This is seriously the last thing we need, too much segregation as there is. Also where do we draw the line? What would it be called? Junior Senior SRL? Then what, Junior Junior Senior? Junior Junior Junior Junior Junior Junior Junior Junior Junior Junior Senior SRL?

Would creating another group be the solution?
There are cups for most of the things that SSRL members need - maturity through useful poster; helpfulness through helper bear etc. If they need motivation, suggesting them for a cup is one way.
Of course, the obvious giving rep is a quick and simple way and it is quite a nice feeling when you know that someone genuinely appreciated what you did. Replies to topics where it would be on topic (like tutorials) are also great.
There must be other methods, but I need to drink some tea now :)

Yea like, what's the deal with trying to make everyone happy at all times? Make them try and achieve something…

There's no reason to make a new rank/group/forum which has no purpose. If we wish to keep people motivated and have something for them to aspire to we can give out more cups or make the cups appear as if its been given out more. Perhaps we can have a cup registry or some sort of list for recent recipients of cups. That way people can see that cups are actually given out and then they can aspire to that.

Well I thought that you said it was a good idea too :p guess not.

Well I still think that it's a good way to keep people active, but I guess not.

@N3ss3s, the idea wasn't to keep everyone happy at all times, it was to attempt to keep more people active.

You don't have to lock the thread. Other people can contribute later if they want.

I can see the good side of this, but I just think it would create more problems than it solves…
