**Note: This tutorial has been made for instructional purposes only. I, the writer, will not be responsible for any damages, problems, or mishaps whatsoever caused by any instructions in, or derived from, this tutorial.**
With that, let's start. Here, I will only instruct you as to how to use a Fork Bomb, which is an easy DoS (Denial of Service) prank.
I. What is a DoS prank?
A DoS, or Denial of Service, prank is a prank that causes a computer to lose most, if not all, ability to perform the requested tasks. It must deny to do these tasks because its limits have been reached.
II. What is a Fork Bomb?
Fork Bombs are programs that create another instantiation of themselves when they are run. Essentially, a batch file with the following code:
would be a fork bomb.
III. What do they do?
They bring the computer to the process limit and significantly slow it down, so that no more process can be made, and all currently running ones go slow.
One might think "Well, a counter would be to take out an already running process…", this is wrong. As soon as a process space frees up, the already running tasks (children of the bomb) fight for the slot.
Basically, it forces the person to restart their computer. If you place this in startup, it forces them to run a secondary OS to remove it from startup.
IV. Excellent… How do I do it?
Easy. I will provide Linux and Microsoft examples. If you need more, feel free to wiki "Fork Bomb". :P
Linux (BASH Terminal): (Copied from Wikipedia. :P)
bomb() is the name of the function
{ states that everything before the '}' will be a part of the function
bomb|bomb states that one bomb process' output will be piped to a second bomb.
& makes sure that the process breaks off, so the whole thing isn't killed as soon as the main terminal is.
} ; bomb states that that is the end of the function, and to run "bomb".
Windows: (Again, copied from Wikipedia; there aren't many extremely diverse ways to do this. :P)
start %0 starts the program that is running
goto s goes to the s marker.
…And there you go. Enjoy. :P
