Ubuntu is making me uncomfortable :( Its my first time using a Linux as my OS, so maybe thats why. I can't get many of the stuff to work, and WINE is a pain in the …
SCAR looks garbage and it is laggy as hell and freezes up :/ Selecting a window doesn't work aswell, it just selects the entire desktop when I try to select the RS applet. MSN can't be installed, and I do not like pidgin as much, and i guess there are too many keyboard shortcuts or something because when I'm typing in like a min it loses focus of where im typing :S
Ugghh, I might justs go back to windows… Unless someone knows some good solutions? Thanks!

Is Virtual Box fast? Like non-laggy?

I've tried windows and mac before, i felt good with them, linux is the only one i do not feel so good with, though I'm still excited to explore a bit more before i go back to my comfort zone :p

AFAIK SCAR in WINE can only select windows which are also in WINE. Though I never use the crosshairs because I use SMART. Make sure you install the windows version of java in WINE.
I've never had any issues with pidgin so idk.
VirtualBox with XP runs fine if you have 2gigs and dual core.

Thanks! :) I have a Core2Duo 1.83ghz w/2GB RAM. How much RAM and space should I assign to XP?

I put a gig on there, which is half of what I have, which is the max recommended, but I don't need that much for what I do on Ubuntu, so I'm not worried. Looking at it now, it turns out I could have given it just 512, but that's partly because I'm running a stripped down version of XP. You could probably split the difference and do 768. Make sure you have 2-4 gigs of swap (1-2 times your RAM). 10 gig HD should be plenty.

Thanks for all your help. I've decided I'll just dual boot Linux and Windows instead :)

That works too. IIRC Ubuntu can do this for you.

I felt the same way about Linux.
Just use virtualbox or dual boot.

Ask wizzup, he has a font package to make SCAR prettier.
Also, you can't use any other versions other than 3.15b AFAIK. At least for developing scripts.
You should install the repository version of WINE since it's updated.
Hmm… Give it time, you will learn to love Linux. It's faster, more reliable, and free. Idk, I love my Ubuntu, I won't go back unless I'm forced.

have you gotten the proprietary drivers for you graphics card installed? Ubuntu runs like a dream with nvidia drivers (and sucks hard with the open source nv drivers).

How did you tell he uses nvidia?
The open source ATI drivers are pretty cool.
About the font; I believe Markus still has the package. Otherwise I could upload it?

I guess its OK. I just install Windows 7 today, and to my surprise its can compete with XP in its speed :O took only 20 seconds for startup and like 27 seconds for shutdown. Anyway, I'm dual booting currently and virtual box on ubuntu seems to work pretty fine with tiny xp.
