I need to bring this up, its been bugging me since reflection came out. All you people who don't use reflection because "its to easy" sound like my grandma who won't use a computer because it to easy. We gave you the best tools, and turn them down. How about you don't use Mouse because it to easy? What about FindNormalRandoms? There both one line. Those are both to easy for you guys. Maybe make your own?

If you haven't noticed we're the slowest bot, we need to show everyone how strong this community is when we pull out the good stuff instead of hiding in our caves.

It's not about easy or hard, its about challenging what we know, making new in-roads, solving problems, learning new things. We do it not because it is easy but because it is challenging. You feel proud, with the end-product, be it color or reflection

were - we're.
SRL's not meant to attract that much attention, that's extremely counter-productive to what we do:
To blend in among fellow players, cloaked and in disguise; without anybody noticing or rejecting our presence.

I agree with Myles, we can still be the best community, and have a really easy to script bot with it. Some people just like the "old-skool" feel.

If you want reflection, then there are plenty of other bots out there that do that.
SRL is not a bot or a script, but a community of skilled scripters. You do not get skilled scripters if the extent of what they have to do is call one line and be guaranteed an accurate result for every possible situation - SRL does not guarantee you will get from A to B, it does not guarantee you will find the object you wish. I honestly think this is a great community, because it's encouraging many people (dare I say children?) to take on a tough, mental challenge and enjoy it regardless of the outcome. I also strongly believe that it sets in place many important skills for actual programming and problem solving skills as well.

My second view is that reflection is counter productive to one of SRL's main belief of a leecherless environment. With people being able to churn out any script with great ease compared to colour, there should be no shortage of scripts and so no encouragement for people to learn to script. Some people still will, but not many. Not only that, but a large amount of working scripts would only encourage people from other communities to stream over too, but not to contribute. Sure, more people are good, but I would prefer 10 new people a week that actually at least tempted to learn to script rather than 1000 new people a week who want scripts.

Anyway, if anyone should use reflection then the script making part isn't interesting anymore because I am sure I could at least make one script a day.
I just use my multi-player general main-loop implant walking do some banking do some this some that. Done.
If you like to use reflection I do not care you are still a good scripter, and it might be even a better choice.

Cool story, Bro.It's the scripter's choice for how they do there own work. Color can work just as good as reflection. So either way it shouldn't really matter to you. And, you can make you're own script if it bugs you so much.

And look at that SCAR and neXus are both color scriptable bots. Is this a coincidence?, I don't think so. SCAR and neXus are still around because there takes a little bit of thinking and more challenge to make something close to perfect… which in return makes more dedicated scripters/member in the community

If people want to use reflection NOTHING is stopping them. Method keeps the hooks up-to-date pretty much hours within any update. The reflection include is developing at a constant rate.

I honestly don't see the point in this thread…

im not on either side, but i have some points.

color: its fun, and challenging to script with. if you do it well it would be a good script. if i want to script for the fun of it, and efficiency doesnt really matter, i would go with color

reflection: its more efficiant, and if i wanted a script that would be more flawless, i would use reflection.

2009-07-22 23:50:33

Why do you care if other people don't use reflection? It's your choice to use it or not.

SRL doesn't make scripting easy, it makes it possible. It gives the tools to build really great autos for Runescape. This is still called srl-forums, not reflection-forums. My choice to use SRL instead of reflection does not affect you, so why do you care?

Runescapian321

2009-07-23 00:33:17

I think what Myles is trying to say is that using reflection would benefit the community as a whole more than color could. That's mainly because, in almost every aspect except a select few, reflection is more efficient, more accurate, etc. than color. Now if you want to make a complicated script, and don't want to use reflection because it's too short/simple, why not make a huge script, such as an AIO script? That would be challenging enough to give you that good feeling of making something great at the end, and it would benefit the community much more than your flawless one location miner.

Another thing - is Color really that much more complex than reflection? I don't have much say in this, seeing as I've never created a working fully color script, but from my early learning days I felt like I was collecting data much longer than I was actually scripting. Now that makes me feel as if this 'complexity' is just those hours of making tons of (D)DTMs, getting radians for RRW, setting up TPAs, etc. Correct me if I'm missing some huge point…

Just throwing this out there - Which breaks more often, Color or Reflection?

So searching the whole client for specific arrangement of colors with a tolerance is more efficient than hooking into runescape client and getting the exact coordinates of it through memory is more efficient?

Even though I haven't been playing RuneScape (nor cheating in it) for years and years by now… I have (every now and then) been viewing discussions about current "cheating trends" int it…

There has been at least these bots/tools, that have died within time/due to RuneScape updates, while SCAR has been a huge "survivor":

AutoRune
SBoT
ReiBot
RuneBot
Ares
Aryan
ARGA
Bender
RSDemon

..and PLENTY of others really (yes, during all that time SCAR has been alive & doing very well!).

+ SCAR is one of the only macros that has been/can be used for other games/purposes… ..and that by the way, is a fact.

I really don't see why anyone has a need to complain. You can use just SCAR if you want. You can use SCAR and SRL if you want. You can use SCAR and SRL and reflection if you want. You can use SCAR and your own include if you want (which could be a version of SRL with as many functions replaced with reflection as possible). You can use a mixture. You can contribute color code. You can contribute reflection code. You can contribute both. The SRL and Reflection SVNs are free to access, free to modify. If you don't like something, change it.

Even there I'd say reflection is better. I'm not sure about speed, but if mining is anything like flax, I'd say reflection is instant in figuring out whether something is present or not, as far as I can see. Not to mention with Reflection you can do some tile checks and end up getting the closest object, whereas with color it's possible, but not nearly as reliable. As for efficiency, it's definitely more likely for a dynamic color check to fail than a static ID check.

When you play the game, do you play by looking at the screen? Yes? Then color can do it. It's not a problem of what color can and can't do, it's a problem of whether or not the scripters are creative, smart, and willing enough to attempt it.

Then go convert SRL to reflection, host it on code.google.com, for free. I'm sure others will help you out, some of which might even be SRL devs. If it gets popular enough we might even make a sub forum of the reflection forum so you guys can discuss it. More and more people will accept it, and those that choose to be 'ignorant' will still have the option to use regular SRL. Maybe eventually more people will be using that include, and more people developing for it, that it will be become the new most popular include for SCAR. Do that, and show people how great it is. That will definitely get people to accept it, and stop using old slow methods.

I don't get why some people compare runescape client colors and say that it's possible because human eye can detect it. You have no idea how powerful our brain is, it has thousands of years of evolution, there is no computer as powerful as our brain, the two shouldn't be compared.

EDIT: By the way, to all the people saying that color is the "original" method, just because people have been doing it for ages doesn't mean it's right. You want to go back to old religious methods because they're original?

Also, why are you confusing SCAR with SRL, aren't you people intelligent enough to tell the two apart? SCAR is the thing that compiles the script and runs it, SRL is simply a library that enhances your scripting experience by shortening the code.

I'm pretty sure he means in addition to including the functions in the reflection include, that other functions that are currently in SRL be converted to reflection. Only using color when absolutely needed (meaning no hooks for that). To replace the old slow techniques with the new fast one. It is perfectly fine to do that as a separate project, but he ignored me when I suggested it.

Eh it sounds good alright, but when Runescape updates then Srl will be dead until the hooks are updated. Unless we have super fast leet updater (aka Method)

I think Myles wants reflection to be the 1st priority and then color as a failsafe. Or maybe he wants Scar to be extended with Java. (thats what I want!)

Which is why I suggested a separate project. So R-SRL project would be dead. While I will be autoing with SRL, maybe on mechscape.

So your suggesting that I make a new project, and then saying it will fail? Also, in the time it will take to make a color version of srl for mechscape will be the same length as making a updater for reflection and doing the math for walking and such. Its not like mechscape won't have stuff we can hook…

There are incredible similarities of colors in certain areas, that no matter how smart you are, you will never be able to do things with those colors in those areas with just color.

I agree 100% with bullzeye on this. If your brain can interpret it, then why can't it be coded for? It might be a HUGE piece of code for something so very LITTLE but it could be done. You might even have to make an include for it with C/C++/Java or something to get it done but it should be able to be done if someone is willing to attempt it…

From: mixster
Boreas made a pretty good point regarding that. It's here in the SRL community and it is being developed by skilled scripters here. What do you want, everyone to drop colour scripting, because it's out of date? Is that what you are hoping to achieve or am I missing the point?

+1, I said that earlier, I think I am missing the point…

From: MylesMadness
I've said it to kyle over msn, and I'll say it now:
"I'm sick of srl, the next java bot that comes out I'm moving to it. This place is too ignorant to be good anymore"

Like Boreas has said, go and make the include for it. Reflection already has their own include pretty much under control and is constantly growing. Just help with that and use it. We don't have to reconfigure/reconstruct SRL to only reflection because you are being a whiner about something so insignificant…

It would fail during the time between rs updates and hook updates (which the current way does now). I was replying to kingarabians post
will be dead until the hooks are updated
The project will be as successful as you and other contributors make it. Instead of leaving, put your money where your mouth is and start the new branch. And by money I mean time and effort (which is what you would be asking SRL devs to spend by changing the official branch) because it's free. Once it gets started I will even contribute some functions. Look I'll even give you the link http://code.google.com/hosting/createProject

Possibly. We will see when mechscape comes out.

But if you dont have a majority support it will fail. Thats how things are here on Srl.

MylesMadness

2009-07-25 01:10:41

But the whole reflection project failed already because no one accepted it, why put effort into a whole new huge project when its most like not going to be liked.

There were multiple things I was trying to do with this thread.
1.) See if it would end up working
2.) If I did it would it be even used
3.) Anger no thought thread(I would have deleted this if someone didn't post already).

So heres, the deal. I'm not going on srl until the comp so I can cool down. So much shit is messed up in my life right now so fast. I just need to calm down.

I laugh at pathetic disputes between this. The simple solution is to combine them which no one cares, is capable of doing, or is just lazy.

I offer a viable solution which you play the "why the do you care" card.

I argue in a different direction, my own direction and that is simple. Both ways.

I guess a close narrowed minded could say I'm arguing too, but lets face it that's never got or will get anything or anyone anywhere.

Not if it involves unlocking the potential of something great. Deny it all you want but in this case (anti-reflection, pro-reflection) it's people's laziness and/or stubbornness that is limiting SCAR to imperfect color scripts and flat obtuse reflection scripts.

I bet if one person made a hybrid script everyone would might open their damn eyes to the potential.

You're arguing right now, when the solution is right there.

Also, arguing does and always will get people places.

Me: "I'm hungry."
You: "So eat some steak."
Me: "I'm not a fan of steak."
You: "But it's good, and, in appropriate servings, gives you vitamins/nutrients/etc. that you need to be healthy."
Me: "Well, alright. My doctor did tell me I should eat more meat. Thanks. Now let's have sex."

I'm already developing the largest hybrid script ever contemplated. So I don't know what you're getting at other than admitting your either contradicting yourself, are an idiot, or just plain annoying.

This incompetence is exactly why I laugh at these threads.

If you got a question PM/ MSN, me or something I'm out of this thread, this is exactly why they are pointless.

there are lots of paths to choose from.

cut your own or follow the trails.

its ultimately the individual's decision to use whatever they want right?

so why not just leave it at that.

along with whatever middle ground that can also be forged

Combining them is pointless. Like many have said, why backup pinpoint perfect reflection with unreliable old colour? Reflection either does or does not work and when it does not work, it does not do so at all. Remaking an entire script for the little time it does not work does not yield enough of an improvement to be worth it, unless you only used reflection for a small bit of the script, but then what's the point of using this amazing reflection if you only use it a little?

IceFire, you have raised it a lot and every time the same conclusion is reached. Just because it's not the one you want, it doesn't mean that you are being ignored through ignorance, but simply that your own ignorance is greater. Unless you have something to change peoples mind, do not expect it to be changed. So you're developing an amazing hybrid script? Great, when it's ready then maybe it will open peoples minds. However, I think it will only open some peoples eyes to reflection - that's usually how it works. Most people are in camp A or camp B with a few in between.

I've made two threads, just enough for you to even use the 's' at the end of that word. Maybe in your world two is a ridiculous number, I guess that's your opinion though however stupid it is.

At least mixster posted something useful, you other two posted spam and received reputation for it.

Go ahead make another post _99 I'm sure you'll get another reputation point and hell maybe even a useful poster cup reward if you keep it up.

It's 99_. And I didn't get any reputation for any of these posts. Also, I said threads/comments, as in threads and comments. And you said that Wizzup? doesn't allow the growth of SRL, which I think is extremely ignorant (not to disagree with people in power, I think that's always good, if it's appropriate) and arrogant to do.

Don't get me wrong, I think you're a good, smart, and thoughtful person, I just think that (put mixster's comment here) is the correct way to think about the threads subject.

I never said that, and I would rather be hated than be a suck up because some one is my superior even in its minor forms, but that's just my opinion because it does seem to get me into trouble a lot especially with all the weed fans around here that don't take to well to criticism but that's a completely different topic entirely (do not discuss here please).
