SCAR => Important

Hey, ok so here's the thing, I've been inactive for quite a bit, and picking up has been fun *sarcasm* Seems like problems just keep piling up… But anyway, here's the thing… SCAR 3.20 obviously still has a nice deal of issues to be fixed, so there's 2 options for me and I'll let this community decide how I will proceed.
Either I fix 3.20 or I immediately start work on SCAR 4 which is a complete rewrite, it will probably take a tad-bit longer, but I'll be releasing plenty of pre-release versions.
SCAR 4 will support everything from pre-initiated variables to user defined classes. It'll also contain entire systems for includes and what not to be downloaded from the server where users can add their own includes and stuff like that, support for scripts with include dependencies… It'll have a new plugin system which will be far more extensive, also allow GUI plugins to add tools to SCAR and such.
So I'll leave it up to you.

I see it this way…
If SCAR 3.20d's rs_GetUpText work after they re-set the fonts, then go ahead
and go SCAR 4, If not, do a quickfix before going there ;)

I only have one issue, the idea was to develop SCAR 4 using CodeGear RAD studio 2009 to offer full support for Vista, Windows 7, Unicode, … But I never managed to get my hands on a license… So if I start on Delphi 7, I'll end up getting causing the same problem I have now which is that I can't port the thing to a higher version because the stuff I used isn't compatible

SCAR 4 is a rewrite, so practically all code will be rewritten, the code that will be ported will be tested very extensively so no bugs stay behind, like the new bitmap routines in SCAR 3.20

Fix 3.20, if 3.20 isn't working then we can't test and use scripts while 4 is being worked on, and I'm sure 4 will take longer since it's a complete re-write as apposed to a few fixes in an already written version.

For 4.0 I'd wish a Reverse Bitmap and Color Finding, Like the Normal one, but that it starts at the bottom right, with the same speed of the usual "FindColor,Bitmap".. That Would be totally amazing :D.

And even more complex records, and arrays/arrays of records?

It will be something more like this.
struct Point{
int x = 5;
int y = 10;
}
Those will be initialized on struct creation, but you won't be able to add your custom initialization values for each struct created, unless freddy decides otherwise of course.
Question, will the classes be as cheap as the records, or will they be real classes that support methods and etc.
Also, I'm hoping new version will allow this.
type trigger = record
actions:array of procedure;
end;
procedure addaction(trig:trigger; act:procedure);
begin
SetArrayLength(trig.actions, GetArrayLength(trig.actions)+1);
trig[High(trig.actions)] := act;
end;
Currently this doesn't compile because you get a type mismatch, and you have to bypass that doing this.
type action = procedure();

trig.actions[High(trig.actions)] := ___pointer(act);
end;
begin
addaction(T, @p1);
addaction(T, @p2);

T.actions[0]();
T.actions[1]();
T.actions[2]();

I never said that the majority should decide and I simply post this here because people don't seem to visit my forums often enough so the vote would take forever, this is simply the highest concentration of SCAR users I can easily get in touch with in a short period of time. But anyway, I've had about enough of these ridicules fights between us, it's because of you that I had to take a break because I couldn't handle the stress anymore because I was constantly being bashed which in terms was a major setback for all of my projects. So go ahead and post your snappy reply, but don't expect another reply from me.
As for this poll, I was never planning on starting the work on SCAR 4 before I finished at least SCAR 3.21, I was merely interested in seeing how people would handle this situation if they could decide, as a developer I wouldn't take decisions like this lightly and never leave behind something that doesn't work as well as it should before moving on. I will be setting up a subversion repository soon where I will upload SCAR 3.21 pre-release versions, this way I can fix and update bugs fast and the people who test it in terms can resume the testing faster as they have access to a fixed version faster. I'm currently using Windows 7 as a development environment, so the next versions of SCAR will probably be a bit more Vista/7 friendly, which is what I'm currently working on.

First of all, I apologize for any real life stress I may have caused…
Sorry :)
Nevertheless, in my opinion I have not attacked you in this thread, I'm only trying to voice my opinion. I've been going over the posts a couple of times, and I
really can't find any offensive posts, and no offense was intended.
I treat your opinion with great care, and I wish you do the same of mine.
From: Freddy1990
Well that's great news. I, for one, didn't understand that you were going to work on 3.21 first, though… :)
From: Janilabo
I agree with you at part 1 of that (stable program), I can't agree with the second, though.

And for those of you who don't use SCAR for RuneScape, there's also the SRL Community.
I think I've already made it clear that I am
very interested in macroing other games as well.
If you keep your projects private however, there isn't much the community can do for your projects…
I vote for Scar 4.0, because i don't use it in Runescape and i know some people who would like to use it in other games too :)
And yes, i use SCar 3,15 B.. And i see now Errors whatsoever in it :)
And i think we forget who is putting his ass into this. So we can "Cheat".. Freddy doesn't get paid for what he is doing, or anything.
Thanks Freddy for asking our opinions. And Thanks for developing this wonderful Program called Scar A.K.A Phoenix.

Wizzup, I hope you didn't get me wrong, because (haha, I think I have said this before, but anyways…) even though I don't use SRL include nor play RuneScape, doesn't mean that I have something against the SRL include. Actually I think SRL include is really great and has damn nice history behind it, it just doesn't offer too many uses for me (right now, at least). The progress around the SRL include has been truly fantastic.
& it doesn't either mean, that I wouldn't like the SRL-community… ..to be honest, I love this community and I enjoy my time in here so DAMN much, that's the reason why after all these years (ever since ReiNet/Kaitnieks/RSCheatNet & other "old-school" cheating forums, that had support for SCAR scripting) I am STILL around. Even with the fact, that I have already quitted playing RuneScape [Classic] 6 years ago. :)
I pretty much daily browse SRL and Freddy1990.com, in some ways I could be much more active, though. :p

I think there are a few of us who stick around at SRL, but don't use SRL or macro on RuneScape. I know me and Jani are some of them :p.
I really do like this community, that's why I've stayed here. I am pretty much like Jani. And yeah, I quit RuneScape like a year ago. I don't auto or anything. I also stay here because I continue to use SCAR daily by making random functions, just messing around, and yeah, just doing pretty much a bunch of random things on it.

scar 3.20 works fine on my version of Vista. I don't know where the vista-users are getting problems with…? So for me that isn't a reason to switch to scar 4.0.
Can you make a short list of the pros and cons of version 4.0, because in you first post your saying things like: "pre-initiated variables to user defined classes". What does that mean in noobish? I know classes from my short touch with java and my experience with actionscript 3.0, but I don't know the benefit of using this in a macro program? Or is that just for other usage of scar(not related to runescape)?
About the "who should vote discusion", I think all users may vote, because we all have to wait till the newer version will be released by freddy. It doesn't just change some things to the script writers and the the srl-writers, but also to the leechers(end-user). They have to stop a few days or a few weeks. Wich may force them to stop using scar, and testing your scripts(SRL or not).
I didn't vote jet, but it seems that the most user wants the 3.20 version fixed with the new chars, and begin on scar 4.0 after that. At the moment I got the same opinion as the others.

other than the tmusic error thing, which i think i saw you already fixed, going on to 4 looks good since i think i saw you already fixed the supposed text things required for rs. no need to continue to the 3.x branch.

i wonder why they need to be updated by you? Wouldnt it make more sense to have rs requiring things (like upchars or whatever its called) updated by SRL? or is there something im not understanding as to how this is used.

I'd say wait for 2010 first ;) In the mean time, compile SCAR 3.21 in 2007. Shouldn't make that much of a difference :)

Implement the linked list with an array. There will be no pointers in Pascal Script for a long time. Perhaps the SCAR 4.0 engine supports Pointers.
E: Array + structs. Pretty useless, but whatever.

He did say it will support real classes, which I would assume it would be able to hold itself inside of it, if it's a real class.
EDIT: Wanna help me create a linked list using arrays, because I have no clue how I would go about doing that.
Wizzup?

You could set an initial array length of 1000. The array would be an array of some_record, and some_record would store a `value' and a `next' value. This next value would just be an Integer, the `next' index in the array. If you want a doubly linked list, also add a `previous' array index to the record.

I think you should go to SCAR 4. Rewrite, and with RAD2009 you will be able you flatten out the bugs easier. Or, of course, move on to C#.
If you go to SCAR 4, you could make it open sauce for SRL devs or trusted members who know delphi or C# and let them help you trace the bugs. Just stick it all on SVN :D
– Start non-important bit –
Still, with RAD2009 you'd have support for 32-bit icons and PNGs, make SCAR look awsome…
– End non-important bit –
