I don't understand what you're getting at.

Explain a bit more.

Technically we have more freedom now-a-days because the world has advanced so much.

If you mean just after Britain left, then we definately don't have close to as much freedom.

The original idea was that you should have certain freedoms to so long as it doesn't impede on someone else's guaranteed freedoms. Now we have laws taking away our freedoms in the name of money, power, religion, stability, terrorism, global warming, and more "freedom"

Not against, but because of. Abortion would be the main one here, and gay marrige is arguable (although it wasn't intended to exist originally since it was be looked on like saying you're a necrophile now, there just weren't many openly gay people)

The United States succeed in creating a government that preserved the notions of liberty from the enlightment because of the wide availability of land. Most people could own land, which is the key difference between the nobles and commoners in Britain.

This allowed many to vote and to take part in government affairs. I think there was considerable more independence in the colonies. But that depend on which regions you were discussing. Whether the strict puritans or the Rhode Islanders who killed the articles of confederacy.

I believe nowadays America is far more socialy conservative than UK thanks to the Regan revolution.

I blamed the hippies for overdoing it.

Oh, and here's a list of chemicals you don't have the freedom to put into yourself:

Lol really?

We don't have nearly as much freedom as our forefathers intended us to have.

Our government employs income tax (which is pretty much the epitome of economic irrationality; rewarding the lower-class and penalizing the upper-class). Not to mention the countless other tax laws being pushed in congress.

We have psychiatrists labeling whomever they want to slice open or shock "insane", rendering the accused person with little to no rights. And if they don't permanently destroy your mind's ability to function by scraping your brain tissue until you comply, they put you on mind altering drugs to sedate you into a state of "contentedness".

People's rights are being violated every day.

Obviously we have much less freedom, and I do not think that are founding fathers would be very happy with the turn the US is taking.

The second ammendment of the constitution is the right to bear arms. That has been ripped to shreds with most states and cities creating gun control and banning guns. We founded this country to get away from outrageous taxes, even though before Ronald Reagan was elected, the top tax bracket was at 70% of your income (not counting self employment tax, state tax, city tax, sales tax…etc. We have more than ten thousand pages of taxes now), and we are starting to move towards that now.

The government is starting more and more to decide what to do with your money for you through taxes. We are going to take some of everyone's money to buy you health care. Why do you need to take our money and spend it on health care for us? We are perfectly capable. Also social security is the government forcing us to put money into a fund which we get in the future. Social security has much less money going into it right now anyways than going out, but that's a whole other topic.

The government is taking more and more control over our lives as the years go on. That's pretty factual.

Honestly, nobody cares. Sorry to be so blunt about it, but it's true. We have no record of every single thing that happened 200 years ago, and so we could have more or less than they did. It doesn't matter. This is what we've grown up with, so this is what we think is normal. The government isn't taking over our lives. They're just doing there jobs. I might not agree with everything they do/say, but it doesn't really matter, does it?

And we have more freedom than most other people in the world, so yeah.

(Not complaining with anyone :p I respect and love your opinions because then I know that people aren't just brain raping themselves into thinking the government uses mind control and stupid stuff. If you have a valid point, then I think it's cool that you believe in that. :) You should get into government ;D)

Yes, they are doing their job, but also a lot that is not their job. The government was originally set up solely for protection (police, military, judges, etc.). Now, the government forces us to pay more money the more we earn to pay for things like multi-billion-dollar bailouts, welfare, and other useless things like researching bears in Montana.

I think seizing the power to forcibly collect taxes for "services" that the taxpayer does not wish the money to be used for, limiting businesses' success because of "global warming," and, worst of all, the power to sacrifice our lives via the draft is certainly taking over our lives.

I agree that there is some frivolous spending, but the majority of what they do isn't that, in my opinion (I'm against our government, I just understand why they do some of it).

And here I am forgetting about this quote
From: Thomas Jefferson
… God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty…. And what country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.

But of course, that's treason now and is punishable by death (at least as far as I know).
