More Non-RS Functions for SRL?

*UPDATED WITH POLL*

Hey guys, I know I haven't been active for a hell of a long time, but whatever. School just got out and I might possibly start playing RS again.

Anyways, I was on SCAR a few weeks ago and I have always been disappointed with the lack of functions in SCAR/SRL for use in non-RS applications. I'm sure most people have viewed the thread about my whole "terrible" hacking script, and that was one of the first times I really explored the non-RS functions in SCAR and put them to use. I've done some more since then, and I think it is really interesting for some reason. I don't plan on releasing any more scripts similar to my last one, don't worry, but I think more complex functions should be made for SRL regarding other non-RS related stuff. I know SRL is focused completely around RuneScape, but some of the functions made could be used in RS as well as out of it. I know this might sound like something that would be better to implement in just SCAR and not SRL, but I don't think Freddy is open to random ideas to put into SCAR.

So, I basically just wanted to see what you guys think about. To give you an idea of some of the things that can be done, I tell you about a few of the scripts/functions I have made. I have made a function that can get the IP address of the computer running the script and also locate (fairly accurately) the location of the computer. Also, I have made (which was fairly simple) a script that can easily obfuscate any inputted text and deobfuscate it as well. I am also working on (and this might sound bad but if I release it, I will give complete warning and everyone will know what it does) a possible computer crasher just for educational purposes. I want to see what can be done with SCAR and I'm trying to push these limits. Just post here and let me know what you think.

SRL is runescape only always, make your own include.

That could change.
More then ever, SRL could be developing with another game as well as runescape.

Thanks dude, I appreciate the hostility.

And for the others, yeah, I mean it's just a thought. It is possible. SRL is a "Scar Resource Library", not limiting it just to RuneScape.

I 100% agree. If you do add it to srl, we can constantly add more updates to the non RS functions, as if it were in scar, we would have to wait for a whole scar update.

And we could make 2 seperate folders

RS
NON RS
And have sections like
Programs
Internet
Computer
Other

Correction: "SRL Resource Library"

and, as hostile as myles was, its true. SRL is for RuneScape. Not any other games.

There are many procedures and functions that could be modded for other purposes though.

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

Also, i know a bunch of people who love coding actual scar code, but hate coding rs scripts.

Is it really "SRL Resource Library"? Because it still says Scar Resource Library at the top of the page…. and usually the initials for something cannot stand for something with the same initials…. Idk though. Either way, the new name of "SRL Resource Library" would not make it any more geared towards RuneScape, it would just be the "SRL Resource Library Resource Library Resource Library…. etc".

Yes, the name is SRL Resource Library. The top banner is old. And yes, it's a recursive acronym, just like GNU, WINE, and a bunch of other things that I can't think of off the top of my head.

They were supposed to change it but they got lazy, I guess. Or couldn't decided on the new banner. It is SRL Resource Library, though. SRL is for RuneScape though. It's technically..

Shite Compare to Auto-Rune Resource Library Resource Library…

And Auto-Rune was for RuneScape, nothing else. So it should stay as only RS related functions/procedures.

Agreed. Make a separate include for other stuff, besides it already takes almost 7 seconds just to compile what we have right now, we add more = longer compile time for even simple scripts. SRL was meant for runescape and should stay that way.

2 secs? You got one slow CPU mate ;P
Also, You don't include for both games if you're just going to play one.

There's nothing stopping you making the functions and procedures. SRL as a community supports scripting for other games, but it is centered around RS and this should be reflected in the include. Bloating it for other games would not help but hinder the include and so it would make more sense to simply include srl or copy useful functions and procedures out of it for your own script for other games/etc.

I know, I can't afford a dual core yet :(

What do you mean don't include for both games? Then thats making two different includes isn't it? All you do for RS right now is include the srl.scar file and thats it. If SRL was for other games too then we'll stil have to include srl.scar meaning all other files, unless we define our purpose :)

It seems most people say no but the poll favors yes…. Idk what to think yet. Vote if you forgot to.

This will definitely happen in the future. Do you have certain games in mind that we could develop macro's for?

Are you serious?
I could never image SRL for another game

Lance

2009-06-27 02:41:41

I agree with wizzup. its stupid to limet ourselves to just one game, especualy if theres a large group of people within srl that have a commen intrest in another game. but there should be two seperate includes folders as to not lagg our scripts

so you call SetupSRLRunescape; and tah da, only the includes that can be used for RS get called :D

Nadeem

2009-06-27 02:44:05

Lol, ok if this is going to happen then I guess $DEFINE would be most favorable :) If you just call a procedure to setup for a game, still all other files will have to be included then, but $DEFINE can limit us to just what we need :p

{$DEFINE RUNESCAPE} and In the SRL.scar you put an ifdef runescape then include the files uses for runescape. You can do the same for other games.

Wtf, ninja'd.

Macro_FTW

Or…
SRL\RuneScape\SRL.Scar
SRL\MechScape\SRL.Scar //Jagex's newest game which is supposedly coming out this year. We may want to get in to macroing on it first to see what we can do. ;)

Though I support $DEFINE, the folder will get MESSY if SRL\SRL\Core had over 30 files for 4 different games in it…

I dont really see the point, just make your own include or write the functions for yourself when writing a script for whatever you want to do. I don't think many non-runescape functions would get used often enough to justify including them

Hobbit

2009-06-27 10:30:29

I would support this.

Maybe then I can do some more developing :p

Idk I don't play any computer games as of now but I was just thinking of random macros that could possibly be put to use in other games. Like one that I'm thinking about making (I dont think its been made yet but I'm not sure) is a procedure that shuts down the user's computer, which could be used in a script for shutting the computer down once the script has ended/failed or something. Stuff like that I mean.

Boreas

2009-07-10 09:01:15

You can definitely release your own Utilities.scar or something. And then, once people are using it, you can poll on a function by function basis.

Pretty sure i have seen it before. Cant remember the exact script but it was a combat script. How it worked was through CMD and typing "shutdown -s" to execute command
