I see dire times coming up…

SCSS and ScarBrowser are still legal. They just made the programs illegal that you use to chat to other people with or macro. The web-based ones are still legal, just not recommended.

For clarity's sake. Here is the article…
We have updated Rule 7 and Rule 9 to clarify some long standing grey areas, and to cover some recent threats. Please take the time to re-read both rules and make sure you fully understand them.
The reason for this update is both to clarify some very frequently asked questions, and also to help address recent threats which have been harming our players. In particular we have extended rule 7 to make it clear that it DOES now include third party RuneScape clients/world switchers.
We have done this for two main reasons: a) The sheer number of users losing their account/password to programs which pretend to be one thing but actually steal their password; b) Problems with some of these programs including extremely unsafe chat channels where large amounts of scamming go on, and users encourage each other to try to break the rules.
When RuneScape fansites are distributing programs on which 50% of the chat channels are being used to discuss breaking the rules or result in their own users being scammed, it's clear that our rules need revision! We don't want to be unnecessarily restrictive, but we obviously also have to balance that with protecting our users. We've thought long and hard about this, and hence this update.
Update 2-Jan-07 - 17:21 GMT
Further to that I just want to clarify a few extra things:
1) We're absolutely NOT going to ban people who used such world-switchers historically. That would be completely unfair given we've only just mentioned this! We will of course give everyone plenty of chance to read and understand the rule, and get rid of such programs first.
2) It's only RuneScape specific add-on programs we're talking about here. You can of course still use things like msn/aim whilst playing. Just bear in mind that if you do so it's entirely at your own risk, and we won't be be able to help with abuse/scamming. (so we don't recommend it at all, but it's ultimately up to you)
3) We're also looking at adding an official 'group chat' system into the game ASAP for clans and other groups of players to use
Interesting. How could they possibly detect you are switching worlds not using the regular client?

If Jagex really wants to kill all the world switchers, why don't they get off their duffs and create an actual client instead of an exe file that uses internet explorer to go to runescape.com.
If they really tried, they could make a better one cause well.. they know everything. Perfect calculators, combat calc, stats, etc etc etc.

but jagex said b4 that swiftswitch was approved by them because "it does not give the users an unfair advantage in the game" so it is fair to use. they are just worried about the other clients that arrise to the scene to steal your account. Don't worry about swiftswitch, continue to use it. if u happen to get in trouble, tell them that they approved it in the past. i doubt they care about swift at all.
but they did say they hate the clients that "skip" their homepage. swift needs to display that page somewhere atleast once. then they'll have no reason to cry.

it's a legal matter, they don't hate MSN or AIM. they just can't say they approve of it cuz some moron out there will find a way to sew them for "approving" of AIM and MSN. AIM Triton should die in my opinion. i went to download.com and downloaded the latest AIM b4 all that Triton junk so I don't need to install their spy-ware.
but they have to take no part in recommending using those programs: "…but it's ultimately up to you." and "…if you do so it's entirely at your own risk…"
EDIT:: due to their new update, swift is safe… (told ya)

No, breach of privacy.
edit: here's a funny post on forums by Demomonkey
Many Runescape Players are aware of the recent rules update banning third party software to play Runescape. However what you may not be aware of is the fact that the company also strongly discourages the use of third party HARDWARE to play Runescape.
For example, it has come to their attention that many players are using computers, and the Internet, to play Runescape. Obviously this is not in the spirit of the game. It gives these players an unfair advantage over players using posted letters, morse code, tin cans with strings between them, and Etch-a-sketches to contact the Runescape client.
In addition, it is an unfortunate fact that 100% of people who have been hacked or had their keywords stolen, were using computers to play Runescape. These peoples also run the risk of having their computers invaded by unstable, malicious and dangerous software that will bring their systems to a grinding halt and cause them to scream with frustration, such as “Internet Explorer” or “Windows”.
For these reasons, all use of computers to play Runescape will be terminated, and players using these evil and corrupt devices will not only be banned, but also excommunicated and then hurled into a pit of insane rabid beavers. (The same one they throw old programmers into.)
However, to balance this out, Runescape will now be made in three new formats: Braille, Cave Painting, and Mocha Latte.
Thank you.
Signed,

SwiftSwitch i think will be legal again soon
[03 Jan 2007] SwiftSwitch will be legal!(Updated)
After the latest update Jagex have made to their official RuneScape rules 7 and 9, SwiftSwitch will once again be legal. I say will because there are certain changes that need to be made to make SwiftSwitch 100% legal.
Everyone can expect an update out sometime this weekend. Till then I would suggest that you don't use SwiftSwitch, as it does still break a number of the rules.
I want to thank everyone for showing an overwhelming amount of support. I was stoked to see just how much support everyone was giving, it definitely makes my job alot easier.
Also a big thanks to Jagex, they could of easily left things the way they were and SwiftSwitch could still be banned. Instead they have been very responsive to the communities outcry and come up with a way achieve what they originally set out to do with the rule changes but still allow decent, rule abiding World Switchers/Toolkits like SwiftSwitch to remain.

Wizzup?
2007-03-27 10:47:17
It should protect you for a chain ban.. but remeber this, if you load signed world, then get your uid(if any) and put it in memory, this one will only be cleared if you
a. exit rs
b. change world.
Just delete your uid before you load a world, and you should be fine, but they can still ban your accounts for the uid in memory, plus if you just use bad scripts they can ban you one by one.

Now when we are talking about new macro detect system, I am not saying that the scripts are clumsy, they are excellent except :
SRL's human like things are only in mouse and keyboard.
(What I know) So the scripts should be more humanlike working could we say?
I was watching wizzup's esser going to esses from bank and actually if jagex has enough brain to monitor someone then they will detect even srl macros if the atm mods arent stupid as chicken. What would you think about this if you see someone walking to ess like —Click minimap point— Flag; — wait(1-3 secs holy …..!!!').
think yourself really walking to ess , you go there lot faster, you click minimap wait until mageshop is in the minimap and u click somewhere there!
As scripts click minimap, wait until flag is off, wait some time, click mage shop.
I dont know is it impossible, but that would make jagex think like " That fair player is gonna be a Mod some day! " :D rofl.
But, the current srl is perfect for current cheating system or what should i call it. I havent got banned by any srl script thanks .
And for plugsters post at first page i got another idea. If someone catches rs somehow, make new webpage
www.srl-forums.com/SRLScapeand use <object> with rs thingy there.
So it isnt a client and you log in from an internet browser.
Then you can make links to the servers. N1ce?
