skinning animals alive

i recently found this whilst doing my daily search for random stuff on the internet
this is horrifying i don't see how anyone can have the heart to do such a thing
if your still unclear what i'm on about then here is a quote from the link below
many animals are still alive and struggling desperately when workers flip them onto their backs or hang them up by their legs or tails to skin them. When workers on these farms begin to cut the skin and fur from an animal's leg, the free limbs kick and writhe. Workers stomp on the necks and heads of animals who struggle too hard to allow a clean cut.
there is a video in the link below but if you don't have a strong stomach or heart then DO NOT i repeat DO NOT watch the video
you have been warned
http://www.peta.org/feat/ChineseFurFarms/index.aspbut anyway do you think this is right and should it even be allowed
because i for one certainly don't think so
~shut
o.o That's disgusting. And of course it shouldn't be allowed.
Omg, if I were to meet that guy I would smash him against the ground too and start skinning his legs :fiery:

It's not as bad as what they do to sharks; they cut their fins off, then throw them back into the water while they die a slow painful death.
But it's all arguable about how self-conscience these animals are, some people believe they aren't self-aware, so think its OK to do it. I myself believe its inhumane, and shouldn't be done.

In this thread I'm going to take potshots at capitalism.
In responce to you "how can people have the heart to do this"
the answer is simple, they need the money they get from selling fur. Perhaps they need the money for hookers and blow, but I find it more likely that they need money to pay their rent, buy food and pay for their clothes. In other words, the same reason you probably need money.
You could argue that they are forced to work there because if they dont, they would starve to death.
Such is how the invisible hand works, if there is a market for something, it will expand to fill that niche, whether that niche is fur, oil, cures for cancer, boots, sunglasses or whatever. As long as it is profitable, it will happen under capitalism. Forget morals, forget decency, only money counts.
Shuttleu, perhaps ask yourself this.
Would you rather those animals were not skinned alive, or to have 20 people out of work. (this is not a rhetorical question, it depends on the person opinion)
but whatever your answer, you should note that the system forced this choice onto you.

I dont know, but I'm not going to be arrogant enough to think I have a good understanding of skinning animals.
Perhaps there are good reasons for keeping the animals alive.
But then again, I've got no idea.
The only alternative I can think of is that everyone who works there is a sadist, but I find that a bit hard to believe.
Oh bye the way, remember your only source of information is the peta, it would be in their intrests to exadurate the cruelty to help their cause.
I know a bit about the peta from once having a teacher who was against testing on animals, and he showed us some more propaganda videos, similar to that one.
Those videos had quite a few inaccuracies, and were obviously propaganda, but thats made be quite wary of making an opinion after only watching that one video for a single source.

then getting thrown away without its skin still alive

No, it definitely shouldn't be allowed. I couldn't even watch the video, I didn't click it.
The animal, is being skinned alive.
Kicking and screaming, being kicked and stamped on..
Its inhumane, you could argue the death he could be doing it to pay for shelter and food..
Perhaps. But it doesnt take much time to slit its throat or put a bullet through it's head.
Its just down right inhumane, there is no good reason for it, not one at all.
The meat is usually scrapped.
I hate to sound racist here, but this is the way the majority of Chinese animal trades function, inhumanely.

I understand what Yakman was saying, and he's right. People will do whatever it takes to survive. I agree that it should be killed first, but then again, I don't think it's necessary to kill the animal to begin with.
If someone's going to skin an animal, there's no way they animal should be alive. I can't think of a good reason why it would need to be alive. It's always better the have a quick painless death, then a slow agonizing one.

Im taking a while guess here. But i think they would put the animal to death if they could. but if you saw the video the pulled the ENTIRE skin off. including the head. and killing the Animal by either shooting it or cutting its throat off would damage the quality of the fur.
I do disagree with them but hey, what ever puts food on the table you know..

You associate capitalism with greedy, immoral people who would do anything for a penny. A true capitalist is a man who is willing to work hard for his money while respecting the rights of men and animals. He wants to earn his money for his achievements, not for his sins. He will not take charity from others without good reason, and therefore will not inflict suffering for money, nor take it by force. He is the most moral type of man there is.

I honestly believe that was the first video I've ever had to stop because I couldn't watch anymore. The first animal was moving after its skin was taken off. It hardly had any life and was probably screaming out in excruciating pain. Then they took the dog-looking thing and… Ugh.
Do you know how easy it is to break something's neck? That would be an instant death, and not damage the fur whatsoever. Why do they have to keep it living, then let it die slowly and painfully…?
I'm proud to say that I don't own any fur, nor will I ever. [And now, I will probably get somewhat sad when I see someone wearing a full-fur coat.]

you're wrong, and heres why.
capitalism as the name suggests is about capital, which most people today take to mean money.
However the Latin root of capital is capitalis, from the proto-Indo-European kaput, which means "head", this being how wealth was measured—the number of heads in a person's livestock.
How can you say capitalism is moral when the very word derives from the idea of owning other creatures, taking away their freedom, they are nothing more then slaves except they are not human so it doesnt feel so bad to us.
I've seen nothing that links capitalism with good morals, for me, it means making money at almost any cost.
I'll take the example of hard drugs such as heroin. Of course there exist drug dealers which sell the stuff, but proper capitalists dont touch it.
Do they leave it alone because of their morals? do they leave it alone because they want to help their fellow man? No, they leave it alone because its against the law, and that fact makes it very risky, dangerous and above all unprofitable in the long run.
Yet again, it is the government and not the market which finds morals and enforces them on society.
I suppose what I'm suggesting is that governments should make this fur thing illegal too, in the same way drugs are illegal. Assuming that video wasnt propaganda of course.

How can you say capitalism is moral when the very word derives from the idea of owning other creatures, taking away their freedom, they are nothing more then slaves except they are not human so it doesnt feel so bad to us.
Words change over time. For example, the word "idiot," if I remember right, was originally meant to describe people that were ignorant of politics. Now it describes people who are stupid. The way people use the word capitalism has changed too. Capitalist countries aren't based on the old meaning, they are based on the new. The original word has no meaning anymore.
I may be wrong about "idiot," but I think you get my point.
I've seen nothing that links capitalism with good morals, for me, it means making money at almost any cost.
Making money at almost any cost (meaning harming other people and/or torturing animals) is immoral. I suppose I can't change your view on how true capitalists should act, but mine is that they should only make money by achievement, not by exploitation.
I'll take the example of hard drugs such as heroin. Of course there exist drug dealers which sell the stuff, but proper capitalists dont touch it.

I am not sure if you're talking about buying or selling hard drugs. In the case of buying, he would not touch them out of respect for his own body. In the case of selling, he should never exploit or harm another man, which includes knowingly selling a man something that will harm him.
I suppose what I'm suggesting is that governments should make this fur thing illegal too, in the same way drugs are illegal. Assuming that video wasnt propaganda of course.
I agree (not about the drug part, but that is for another discussion). Governments should protect the rights of all animals. Torture of anything with self-awareness and feeling should be illegal. Governments should hold a monopoly on protection – but nothing else.

bullzeye95 you talk a lot about what capitalists should be doing, but this is not the same as what actually happens.
In reality, capitalism is immoral.
In an ideal world, capitalism is the path to greatness, as long as you work hard and be good, capitalism will guarantee your success. And if you're lazy and immoral, capitalism will guarantee your failure. Sounds great.

Non-capitalist systems suffer from intense conflicts of interests. The great benefit of capitalism is that people operate in their own best interests. It's also a very democratic system, where everyone is empowered to pursue their own interests rather than being forced into a cooperative arrangement.
Forcing a government to operate with conflicts of interests leads to waste, fraud, and abuse. It leads to bribery and inefficiency and cronyism. It's the antithesis of freedom.
No way should it be allowed, and I am going no where near that video.

No, I am not saying what they should be doing at all. That would mean that I acknowledge non-capitalists as capitalists. I am simply saying that there are
very few capitalists in the world.
Your ideal-world capitalism would happen if only the world were full of true capitalists. With today's "capitalist" system, when people are lazy and immoral, what happens to them? They get a free welfare check, courtesy of those who work.

Ok anyone who thinks that there are really more humane methods in the united states are wrong i'm sorry to say. Cow's are treated the same if not worse; as well as swine.
So I really have to say this isn't that shocking. However it is gross and the animals should obviously be killed before skinned… I mean honestly it isn't that hard to break their necks and just be done with it.
I am a hunter, and every time I shoot an animal I make sure it's dead as soon as possible to put it out of it's misery. This is truly inhumane.
On the flip side it is people's way of making money. So i can see how the basic idea of killing them is feasible. Still they should be killed before skinning.

What do you mean? Because I'd say that some of the fancier dogs (like in dog shows) are treated better than a lot of people.
(By the way, legendary, do you remember me? :] Pwnt by Pwnt? :D)

animals don't really show us any extra respect, why should we show them any?
lol, that's an interesting argument…
Just kinda playin devil's advocate here
Since when does showing something respect mean not ripping the skin off its body while still alive?
EDIT: O I C wut u did thar

I dunno, why not?
People get mauled by animals and left to suffer, animals maul each other all the time.
We're just mauling the skin off of them, and I would guess that the Chinese probably eat the animals, since meat is sorta scarce/expensive there.

they probably spend more time trying to stop it from struggling than they would to kill it with a blow to the head

i mean i dont see humans and animals as equals yet.
Its not that i think its humane these animals are getting skinned alive but I dont think i can ever treat a human like an animal and vice versa is what im saying.

I'd say no to the poll, even though I don't really care, those people are free to do whatever they want. If they really want to torture something, though, they might as well do it to a person who deserves it. I'd imagine being skinned alive would be quite painful.
EDIT: Actually now that I've watched the video those animals look semi-dead. Kinda like when you hit a fish on the head with a knife and then skin it. Keeping the animals alive as long as possible allows the product to last longer without risk of going bad. Honestly, that was a hard whack they were given, most of the movement was probably left-over reflex from their broken brain.
Also, did you know PETA is classified as a terrorist organization?
[ON TOPIC]People should also remember that the chinese people growing and skinning these animals for their fur most likely live in pretty poor conditions and don't have too many other jobs to choose from. It's the same as vegetarians complaining about other people eating meat..
Yeah, I wonder why do those sick bastards in africa etc. eat meat if they even manage to get any? Can't they just go to their local supermarket and buy some vegetables and soy (or w/e crap vegetarians use to replace meat) instead, geez.
It's so easy to complain about things like this when you live in good conditions and you can choose what to eat and when to eat it and you can study so you'll be able to do the kind of work you want. I doubt those people's life long dream was to end up skinning animals alive. [/ON TOPIC]
I'm not sure if PETA is exactly related to the topic, but I hate the damn retarded organization so much I'll write something about it too.
Animals are not equal to humans. Or how many chickens (or any other animals) do you see doing anything else than eating, shitting, sleeping and fucking? Perhaps your dog can bring you a stick back if you throw it but that's just because it's hoping to get a snack or something out of it. I'm pretty sure that if chickens had evolved to the point where we are now before us they'd be shooting us down and making shoes out of us..
Another thing that makes me wonder is why are people so againts animals living in captivity(sp)? In nature they'd have to fight for every meal or they'll starve, be on guard all the time or some other animal comes by and kills them and so on. In captivity they don't have anything to fear, food is brought right in front of their face, and so on.
Then comparing those huge facilities (can't remember the word) full of chickens, pigs, cows or w/e to the holocaust(sp?) just makes me /facepalm. The jews killed had dreams and hopes, a family, social connections and so on. Animals don't have any of that. Their #1 interest is food and sex. They don't think or have any actual feelings.
Also, if we gave animals equal rights it'd lead to a few things like:
1. We'd run out of food as no-one would do anything about the animals, so there'd be fuckloads of animals popping up as we couldn't kill them which would lead to them eating all our precious grass and vegetables.
2. Most animals would end up in jail in no time as their equal rights would include equal laws too, so we'd have jails full of animals that were put there for pissing and shitting in public, stealing, murder (some animals eat other animals to survive which would be murder) and so on, so we'd end up having to kill them anyway.
3. Animals would be everywhere so gl getting anywhere with your car when there's 7 cows blocking the road.
Kind of a long ramble but I was in a bit of a hurry, correct me if I'm wrong about anything etc.

i didnt say that they should have equal rights
all i was saying is that they should be killed before they are skinned
because
1. would you like to have your skin pulled off you while your alive with broken bones
2. they would probably spend more time trying to stop them from struggling that it would take to whack them on the back of the neck with a hammer or something

Quit freaking saying 'WELL HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAS BE SKINNED ALIVE LOLOL IM A RETARD DUUUDUDHHHHH'
1) People have been skinned alive, Japanese did it as torture during the WW2. They did it for no beneficial gain. These people have to do it because they need the money from fur.
QUIT FREAKING SAYING 'WTF WHY DONT THEY KILL IT FIRST IM A RETARD DUHHRHUUHHRUHHUDUDUUHH'
2) WE DONT KNOW why they don't kill it first. There could be loads of reasons why they don't kill said animals first! We dont know because we dont have to do it. Its all well saying its sick, inhumane and w/e else you want to insult these people with, but they are forced to do it. I fail to see how they think that it is fun. This is just their way of life.
Seriousley, come up with some better stuff than 'Why don't they kill it first' and 'How would you like to be skinned alive'
EDIT: kingstun, your a retard, no offense intended. The money you donate will never reach those animals, ever. They are just shock tactics to get fools like you to donate.

I'm not an animal, it's a completely different thing. I don't know if you want to think you're on the same level with a chicken or something but I sure as hell know I'm not.
Not sure how much effort stopping them from struggling really takes, depends on the size of the animals, I didn't check the site or any vids, not that I'd be even remotely shocked by animal skinning, but I just cba to even look at PETA's site as PETA people are just a bunch of ugly, socially crippled people with a twisted world view and nobody else but their animals like them.
E: kingstun, that's really sad. That money will most likely go to some crazy person sitting in a cage screaming at children in a bloody pig suit. PETA just finds the most extreme cruelty towards animals and displays it as if every animal (except their own 27 cats per member) in the world is treated that way.

EDIT: I watched that video and wasn't shocked at all. Much worse happens to humans in the world to be honest, its just noone gives a frick about that happening to humans do they? Animals are more important to protect than all of those people living in poverty who live in worse and more squalid conditions than that slowly starving to death. Yeah, isn't that fair?

Animals serve no purpose than feeding us, humans except the cows in new zeland who are farting hole on the ozone thingy.
Animals are usueless if they do not feed us. If we can exploit their fur why not ? THEY ARE JUST ANIMALS. AND NOBODY CARES WETHER THEY ARE ALIVE OR NOT WHEN ITS DONE.

Seriousley, most people would not agree with what is going on, but they wouldn't give a shit about it either. PETA are terrorists, they are illegal and moreover, they exaggerate for shock and money.
PETA do what they do for money. It is human greed, they want money, most of that money that is donated goes to them not to the animals.. Don't be so naive.

I would like to point out to all of those saying it would be easier to kill them before skinning them, you are right. That is why they do, in fact, kill (or at least make them unconcious, like I said before, the movement you see is not concious movement) them before they skin them. You're saying hit them in the back of the neck or something before they skin them, did you not see the dude pick one up and fucking whack the ground like it was hammertime?

Yup. If the people bothered to READ what had been written, they would find out that being twated on the ground kills most of them, just not all of the time. Have you noticed that they only decided to show the alive ones being skinned? but never actually showed any dead ones being skinned on the video. Hmmm. Exaggerating again PETA?

It's every bit as wrong either way. Stealing is stealing. The only thing that would make stealing right is if you are stealing back something that was stolen from you.

let's get a few things straight for people posting on this thread that way we dont get in a loop talking:
1. PETA = terrorist foundation
2. That vid only shows live ones that were exceptions to the norm
3. animals prime instinct drives them, which is why we don't treat them on an equal level.
4. donation to PETA = retarded
5. these people didn't grow up wanting to skin animals for a living, they got stuck with it because of the area they live in.
