It is not a Rickroll.. if you use any browser on Windows, and have .NET version 3.5 or higher, you have a security exploit installed into all of your browsers. Yes, even Chrome, though the article focuses around Firefox, Chrome is also effected.

Here is how to disable it.

If you do not fix this, you might as well be running IE.. :|
Darn Microsoft.

Meh, I'm fine. It apparently doesn't work on the beta versions of Firefox.

Oh, and I can confirm it is not a RickRoll link.

Yeah, Mozilla overrided them in the Betas. Hopefully they will public release the fix soon.

That add-on doesn't stands in my add-on installed screen.
Can I find it anywhere else or I don't have it installed at all?

Da 0wner

2009-06-07 13:29:42

Well, if it is not in the add-ons window you do not have it.

Follow the instructions on the annoyances site anyway to see if you still have some of it.

You probably do not have .NET 3.5+.

I copy them from a different place that tinyurls them, and I just was too lazy to convert it back :p

I have the newest 3.5 and I code in .net so I should have more chance that I got it installed compared to you guys.

Thanks. I'll add this to my ever growing list of crap I have to do to fix windows at work, and to the list of stuff I don't have to do at home on linux :p.

To anyone that doesn't update windows:
A windows machine with full updates for microsoft, java, firefox/yourbroswer, and with no anti malware software is safer than a windows machine with antispyware, antivirus, and firewall software but no updates. Yes, every once in a blue moon an update can make something worse (see: SP3 HP AMD), but thats why you rollback with system restore etc.

Just because something is open source doesn't mean it's better ;)

Also, that link didn't affect me in anyway. Running Windows 7, used IE8 and Firefox didn't work :( I'm sure i have the update installed though, and yes, i have 3.5 SP1 ;)

They recently found an exploitable bug in the linux kernel that has been in there pretty much since the beginning which makes almost every linux distribution vulnerable, so don't overpraise it :p Besides, Windows 7 is the most stable operating system I've ever had the pleasure of running, where as any other version of windows and every distribution of linux that I've used, which is many, have failed me loads in the past…

and even if its not and its to save power there are always ways around things like that.
