Quite honestly? That looks like a rip-off of the Eye Toy.

I think that is a pretty damn cool controller. I just hope it won't cost too much lol.

Ps3 > 360. But lets not get in on that.

Dude, play this song over the video. It fits pretty well!!!!

It looks awesome but afaik it WILL NOT be as the vid says it. Or it's gotta be hella' smart. How can it detect you amongst others sitting next to you?

Hacks of course.

But seriously, that looks nice…but a bit out of our reach?

ROFL! "How many push-ups can Chuck Norris do?"

It looks awsome. Not an Eye-Toy rip-off, to be honest. This is WAY more inovative..

Heh, you guys must have missed E3?

Yeahh this is really awesome. There are some technicalities that I think it will run into, but it should be wicked. It's nothing like the eye toy. The eye toy was just a piece of crap tech that tried to detect your body's outline. This will be much more innovative I think. They already have this for a Burnout Paradise Demo. It's not just going to be a party/wii/general public thing I don't think.

mixster

2009-06-06 18:26:29

There's too much to go wrong. Look at the beginning of it - there is a disclaimer saying it's just what they want to make at the moment. Not only that, but I doubt it will become that big of a thing - just like not all PS3/Xbox games are on the wii, not all games produced would support new technology like that. Similarly, the price tag must be massive on that to fund all the research and development that would go into something so complete as that (if it even gets to that stage). Lastly, if Sony thought it was a major threat then there would already be rumours of a PS3 version of it or a different, more advanced thing like 3D gaming using mini projectors or some other, crazy idea.

Oh, and I can see the main problem being that people will get mega pissed off with it. Playing CoD, for example, is tiring enough on the Wii while just holding up the 'gun' for an hour or two, but asking people to also do all the running etc to move would either actually get most people in shape or stop them playing. Not to mention I don't see how effective moving would be when if you turned around, you wouldn't be facing the TV nor would their be enough room to move around the whole level.

Not really a controller, but some of the features on it are cool, like scanning the skateboard thingy and mutliplayer (as in people in your house) play.

meh, it's interesting, and a step forward, but I don't really like it…I would rather have a hard controller in my hand, where I can tacitly feel what I'm doing.

And this is the reason you only saw simple games being played. Integrating a game like Call of Duty or Halo would be too hard both for Microsoft to implement and the player to experience. They're going to stick to basic types of games like racing and quiz show games.

Hence it being a fail. People with a Xbox 360 are hardcore gamers - they don't want crappy quiz games and I'm just as sure they don't want to share their console with their family. All they're trying to do is move into the family sector, but the problem is Nintendo will always do better there and the Wii has the ability to do a lot more games as it still does have a controller.

Exactly. I can't see why they would try to move in this direction when it'll be extremely hard to find a place among the Wii and its family games.

If they do manage to conquer it though then it would be epic win for them. If not, they can still use parts of it in other games and the like ie the 'skateboard scanner' for skating games, even when using controller, would be a nice attraction for irl skaters. I would of liked to see a backflip or grap example in the demo.

If they actually can make that work, i can't even imagine how fun it would be at some fighting games. ; ) And the videos at internet ''Guy played superfighter 232 and broke tv with his ninja kick by accident.'' Like Wii videos now.

If they really get that work well, i will buy it. That is sooooooooo awesome. i wouldnt even have to get my controller from the sofa, i could just move my hand and choose movie etc.

I would like to see some video from shooting games, if they can get it work with them. I don't apparently think so.

EDIT: Actually, i would like to see more about those fighting games. How does it go when enemy hits you? Or tackles you. Does the character just come up and start imitating the guy again, or how. This is interesting.

Wii is fail it costs more then a 360 arcade and compare graphics and most games. XBOX will always dominate Nintendo.

And this addon will be cheaper then a Wii and most people have a 360 so whats 200 bucks to spend instead of 380 or w/e Wii's cost. Also no gay controller :). Just like sony's dildo looking motion controller Fail.

so 360 wins at motion.

Xbox isn't cheaper than wii? Wiis aren't 380, they're 250. (Canadian dollars)

R0b0t1

The stripped Xbox (and the medium one) is cheaper. It has enough memory for one or two games and you can just swap the HD if you want more space.

No, they can pull this off, it probably won't be as hard as they think after they get the main figure recognition down, after that they could probably just look for corners and do some other magic. To differentiate other people, keep the human form in mind and follow the layout of the edges. Most people share a "common ratio" to within a few points of how long parts of their body are compared to others, etc.

The technology is out there to detect multiple people and distinguish the spaces between them and recognize them as separate "objects". As long as you dont switch places on it, it can tell.

Also, remember that this is technology and research funded by Microsoft, which is owned by the second richest man on earth, so if anyone can find a way, it's them.

And on another note, with this system, you won't have a chance to throw your controller into your band new, fancy-pants, HD TV.

And so the world of gaming has evolved from the only tool you needed is your body, to needing a controller, and now back to needing only your body… And soon, the world of medicine will degenerate back to leeches, only this time, they will be robots :)

CoD:MW2 had nothing to do with the new controller at all…
All the article did was reinforce what has already been said - if it works great, they win else Wii wins. It did say that if a CoD or Halo would use it then it would be great, but I find it unlikely (maybe less unlikely for Halo as it is XBox only, but CoD is PS3 as well and I find it unlikely they would remake a game to make it work for a new system).

i know , COD MW2 was just to show there is a new xbox on the way with better technology…(controller which is YOU.) My friend showed me the conference thing which was like hour long, Bill Gates was there and such i cant seem to find it anymore…

I don't think it's gonna be a whole new xbox. More like a camera that goes on top of your tv like the wii sensor bar and you plug it into a usb port on the back of the Xboxl

From: mixster

This could be taken and implemented into Halo Reach, that's not exactly a Wii game. With the Wii you have to have your controller look at the screen (which it locates based on the IR sensor bar) with Natal you have the screen looking at you in a way. Golfing, FPS, RPGs, and tons of other stuff could branch off of this.

With a new Halo coming out in 2010 Project Natal is probably going to weave it's way in there. They could even give you multiple Spartans to get your friends in as, until you get glassed of course… Reloading could be as simple as doing the motions yourself. Heck they might even come out with a prop for you to use. Shooting might be hard to implement, not sure how they could detect you pulling the trigger on your BR but if there is a will there's a way.

Driving your warthog could be as simple as leaning to the right to go faster, the left to powerturn, and leaning all the way back to brake. Heck it may even be able to detect your feet, and use them for speed control, and let you pull a "stick shift" (or mash down in an alternate spot to hit the parking brake) back in order to enter a powerslide and then put it back into drive in order go. Getting out could simple be when you just "climb out" and stand up, and if I want to tell my friends something in game chat I could touch the side of my face to represent turning on a intercom system. This has so much more potential than the Wii it's not fair to compare them.

triple post ?

Hardcore gamers own XBox 360's and PS3's, not Wii's. Project Natal may outclass the Wii in every single way, but that doesn't mean it will be successful, because I don't think many people with XBox's want that kind of gameplay or own a Wii if they do. Nintendo are notorious for their devilishly addictive and fun games and those games work perfectly for body based gameplay. Shooting things? How hard is to aim when you don't have a gun. Oh, give them a gun, but now it's not "your body is the controller" anymore. The Wii really is just a more practical tool for all round gaming when compared to Project Natal, but it only is beaten in areas outside gaming. As a media platform, it had minimal support. As a general use, it would be annoying. As a driving game, it can guarantee accurate steering wheel like positions and can have buttons that do the appropriate things such as breaking. As a sports game, it can accurately track specific movements and translate them as needed with good programming. As a shooting game, it can provide enough buttons to get the job done while giving a good "gun emulator". There really is more, but I have a feeling someone may tl;dr. my post as it is.

Actually the point is to use real life objects that do not have to interface via a wire. I can see where a gun model would be useful. Hell, you could probably pick up a stick and it'd recognize it.

i mean it looks kewl but how many people are going to use it. anybody and everbody who has an xbox360 will defintaly not get it. face it nobody wonts to get off there fat buts and use motion sensers. i mean it would be fun at the begining but u get tired of it. we all just wont to sit down play some halo or gears not play the gmes orintated around it. like i said we all just wont to sit down and take our anger from the day out on some noobies on the internet.

Actually, it uses stereo infrared cameras, so it sees in 3D, meaning not just facial recognition, but it can just figure out who's fatter, etc. and use that :p.

This is yet another thing that some random company came up with a cool idea and Microsoft just bought the company (although Google's been doing it as of late too). Most people won't want to spend $600 on a console alone though (wasn't this the main reason MS followers hated the PS3 on launch?) plus games and controllers. Everyone but Sony seems to be going peripheral-happy for some reason.
