Hi, this is my guide to auto safely and without getting banned.
This have worked for a year without any problems.

1) The Basics.
When you create your RuneScape account you are asked where you live. Have you ever thought that they might use that to check some autoing business ? I'll explain further.
Never EVER auto with a script, unless its been tested, people have given proggies and such.
However, be gentle and get some dummy accounts to test scripts on, this might get you the SRL Tester cup and you will be recognized in the community.
[16th August Update]
If an update in RS which affect the SRL library (or whatever bot you use actually) was to happen you should not stop using the account(s) you macro on.
Keep playing on them, doing what you usualy do macroing while still varying what you are doing.
It is of course, suspicious if after an update which breaks some main functions in SRL (the flag update for example) some players stop playing until the functions are fixed.
2) When should you Auto ?
This is one of the main things in this tutorial/guide. When should you auto ?
The answer is : when you would play normally ! With S.M.A.R.T it is possible to do that whilst doing other things :).
Do not regularly auto at night, or when you're in school (since jagex asks for age which might [again] play a role in their Auto detection system). You can auto until late, like modify a script to stop after a certain time or so, that would be more "human looking" than if you autoed a night straight.
The breaks / sleeps incorporated in most of the scripts are not enough for overnight autoing.
Also, sometimes, randoms in SRL fail. This plays a VERY important role in Jagex's autoing detection system. When you are in school or sleeping, the random handler might keep clicking or looking for an object ! Whilst, if you are there and regularly checking the progress of your auto, you can stop this.
I often modify scripts to play a sound when a random is found, that helps me to know when a random is a found, and then, I look if it successfully solves it. If not, I pause the script and solve it myself.
3) How should you auto ?
You should auto as humanly as possible, meaning respecting the time (NO ONE PLAYS 10 HOURS STRAIGHT ! [except maybe during the week-ends]), taking regular breaks by sleeping methods, have good anti-ban, quite fast MouseSpeed…etc.
Do not auto the same thing all the time, it is not realistic to everyday for a week, auto lets say, flax picking, a real player would get bored ! And do something else, like minigames.
You have to play on your account too !
Try To always auto with 3 or more characters with regular and frequent switches, this will decrease the changes of you getting a random, thus reducing the chances of you failing it, thus reducing the chances of you getting banned.
You must NOT neglect ANYTHING while autoing unless you do not care about your character.
4) Effective antiban.
Uneffective antiban is a main reason of why accounts get banned.
If you are going to script, you gotta know where/when to use your antiban, how, and maybe, make your own antiban as I personally am quite unsatisfied with SRL's own antiban, but that's just personal (devs gonna headshot me…).
To find out where/when to use your own antiban, record yourself playing normally and find out when you do movements with your mouse, change windows, browse youtube… etc, this will help alot for human-likeness.
Antiban when walking can be good, however, what can also make a factor in bans, is when you stopped walking, and the antiban is still going on.
To prevent this to happen you should experiment diverse stuff with FFlag and such to make the antiban stop when it gets close the the flag.
When playing, you often move your mouse out of the RS Client to do other stuff, like typing something in MSN, checking other stuff out and such, this could be simulated as antiban (I'm making one to chat in MSN with a bot) and would, I believe be very effective.
SRL's own antiban only does things INSIDE the client, which is one of the main reasons of why I think its not good.
I'm still working on the antiban part.
This is still under construction, please suggest things.
