Okay, open your Advanced settings on Ubuntu. Hit to enable test releases, etc, in the Software choices menu.
Open a terminal.
sudo apt-get install wine
Now, install SCAR, etc, via WINE.
After this, just try to load a SMART-enabled script.

I personally have never tried SMART on Linux or WINE (heck, I do not even use SMART on Windows), but it might work.

I remember that it's not exactly plug-and-play with wine. You do have to mess with some settings first.

I think that you can't download srl with subversion on linux, i don't remember well. I think i had to copy/paste the srl folder to wine

Yeah I have Wine and everything and scar works, just errors occur when I try to run a SMART-enabled script.

I got everything downloaded fine, although I did have Nava2 beside me :p Scar seems to work well, it's just SMART that's the problem.

It would be really unfortunate if I couldn't use it. :(

I wasn't sure if there was maybe a way to chance the coding in SMART to make it work (I'm far from an expert on scripting so it's just a thought).

There was when I ran my script, I'm not on Ubuntu atm, but it was something about the Embedded_SMART.dll file. It wasn't that it's not there, cause I know for a fact that it is. I'll log into Ubu when I get the chance and get the exact error.

Here's the exact error message:

[Runtime Error] : Exception: Access violation at address 697C14D3 in module 'Embedded_SMART.dll'. Read of address 0000033C in line 48

You do not "need" antivirus on Windows. Also, Ubuntu can get viruses, it is just no one cares to make them, and/or you need to be a complete idiot to run one. :|

i didnt mean that you NEED a antivirus for windows

That's called 'User Assisted Denial Of Service', and it never really happens.
And yes, Windows does pretty much need an Anti Virus, as it can't take care of it's own.

As long as you are not an idiot (aka running .exe files not sandboxed) you should be fine.

Actually, you aren't. There are numerous of examples, and I'm not going to name them. Windows has been proven to have lots of leaks in the past, and they surely haven't disappeared as of yet.

Smart also worked for me with Wine, so you shouldn't have any problem. Just make sure to install java to wine.
