hi i am running on Ubuntu 8.04 a Distro of Linux. up untill just recently i have been running SCAR through VM ware which is pretty much like a virtual operating system.

any way my VM ware crashed and before i go through the effort of trying to fix it i was wondering if any one knew a way of running SCAR on Ubuntu or any other Distro of Linux?

Install Wine. ("sudo apt-get install wine" should work I think)

I suggest Ubuntu Linux as it is very user friendly.

You could either use the WINE project. (www.winehq.org) or a virtual machine. (VirtualBox)
Both are in the Ubuntu main repository.

WINE works "okay" with SCAR, but I wouldn't call it that stable. I can't tell the difference between WINE and SCAR bugs, though.

A Virtual Machine might be easier if you are really used to windows and don't know how to install SRL except for that one button on SCAR.

I personally use wine if I want to use SCAR, but it is up to you.

If you use wine, you must manually install SRL and the Plugins, it requires some knowledge on how to install SRL.

If you choose to use WINE, first try to get it to work.
If you don't get it work, post here and I'll get back to you. :)
EDIT: If you want to I can update the Wiki page for you. ( http://www.villavu.com/wiki/index.php/Installing_and_Setting_up_SRL )

alright so i got SCAR 3.15 up and running but kinda shaky like sometimes this huge error comes up saying like access denied or something then it shuts down but as of now it is running fine.

the next step is trying to find a way to install SRL for some reason it doesn't pick up the Subvention that i installed? Wizzup could you help me out to install SRL?

ps it would be a nice wiki post i think : )

I just installed subversion on my ubuntu, eg: sudo apt-get install subversion.
Then I cd'ed to my SCAR/Includes dir, and did a checkout there (svn co http://www.villavu.com/repositories/srl-opendev/. Change the folder name to SRL.
All you then need to do is move the plugins and you're set.

VMWare is literally running another OS on top of your OS which slows down your computer unlike Wine which is very fast.

If you run scar under wine in ubuntu, make sure to run winecfg in the terminal, add scar.exe to the applications (normally in /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/SCAR 3.*/scar.exe) and select "run it using Windows 98" for compatibility or your File, Edit, View, Script, etc menus will generate errors just by opening them.

To install Wine, you need to add the correct repositories. Once you have added them, then you can run the command that bullseye mentioned. Installing Wine:

Have fun!
