I cannot find an exact reason, but apparently they are harmful in large amounts, and are considered bad if they can group. They mate and make toxins. I think, or soemthing. Now I'm sad, that looked like my kind of pet.

Nothing to do with toxins. And if I remember correctly, only one species of them is banned, but not others. And that one is banned because it's an invasive species. They breed and take over.

He simply said African Giant Snail, which could refer to either Archachatina marginata or Achatina achatina. I was under the impression that the latter was illegal while the former wasn't, but I checked and it seems that I was mistaken. Both are illegal in the US.
