My Upcoming Extended Absences

Hey guys,

I just thought I would give you guys a little heads up to what I am going to be doing pretty soon and it might redirect my attention even more away from SRL.

At the end of this month (May) I will be trying out to play hockey at the Junior level. The team I will be trying out for didn't seem to be all that great last year (at least from my perspective) so I have a good feeling I will be making the team.

Lately, if anyone has noticed, I've only popped on for like ~5 min every other day or so and it is because I have been training to make this hockey team. I have been shooting pucks and stick handling about 1-2 hours a day and been going to the gym about 1.5 - 2 hours a day also, so about 2.5 - 4 hours a day on training (depending on classes that day).

If I do make this team at the end of the month, I will have to do summer skating sessions as a team this summer and will be absent for quite some time. Then there is a 2nd 'final cut' tryout in august, if I were to make the final cut then I would probably be absent for the whole next year or so.

I do have a goal for this and that is to eventually play in the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) it is the first level of professional hockey here in the United States, its the first level of minor league hockey. So that is my ultimate goal within a year and a half of time, which I do believe I can achieve this goal if I stay focused and on track.

So I just thought I would give you guys a heads up since I do consider you guys to be friends and friends let each other know what is happening in ones life.

So wish me luck and I will let you guys know how things go. If I do make the team you guys can keep up-to-date on how I am doing, points wise etc… via the site.

I didn't make the Junior team, IMO it was because of politics, but I played for Maple Grove / OMGHA every other year normally on a B team.

EDIT: Correction, this year I didn't make a Junior team because I didn't try out, and last year I was technically on a Junior team but I got injured so I couldn't play at all.

Maple Grove, WOW I have played teams from Maple Grove before. Once I seen the orange and black and the letters across the chest, I knew. I thought that name sounded awfully familiar. Sorry to say but every time I faced a team from Maple Grove we beat them. I don't know if I ever played you though, haha that is awesome.

I played for Aberdeen Cougars from South Dakota. I believe we went to maple grove 2 times out of the 3 years I played varsity and 1 year maple grove came to our tournament.

But if I remember right we played an A team.

Just a little update. Today is the first day of the 3 day tryout. Starts tonight at 7:30p - 9:30p, Saturday 12:30p - 2:30p & 7:30p - 9:30p, Sunday 11:00a - 1:00p. Hopefully I will make it.

My hands have gotten a lot softer and smoother since I first started training and I am almost back to my normal playing capability which is great so I could possibly have a full year of on ice potential (which I have never had in my life of playing hockey) so I can grow greatly from that. I have gained a good deal of weight (muscle) in this time period also. I went from a muscular build ~135 to a better muscular build of ~155 which is great for me considering I never broke 150 all through high school.

Wish me luck!

Another update!

I got offered to come back to the second tryout. Which means that they completely don't think I am worthless. That starts next weekend Aug. 14-16th.

I have been training my ass off day in and day out. I've spent about $600+ of my OWN money on training, between supplements and paying to play pick-up, stick-time and just getting on the ice. So hopefully this pans out to something good.

My dekeing and puck handling have gotten 100% better IMO. My 1-on-1 abilities have greatly improved, so that is a +. I have shredded my legs apart every other day to make sure they are in shape for this final tryout and they feel great whenever I get on the ice! yay!

So if anyone has noticed I am only on here monday, tuesday, and fridays between 6am-10am pst (while I am at work) and if I make this hockey team it will be the same times, since I will be at work.

Wish me luck!

Finally! The tryouts are over and can start playing real hockey.

I made the final cut and am part of the team. yay :). This is the first actual tryout that I have ever been a part of and honestly I hated it. I felt like I had to perform at my best and I put WAY to much pressure on myself to do good that I think I ended up playing much worse than what I am capable of, I am just glad I made the final cut so now I can relax and just play!

Practices start next week (3pm - 5pm). Games start September 18. Games will be aired live every game for anyone who is interested .

I am kind of aching today, my left should took a beating during the tryout and my back is a little soar but that will go away in time. Can't take a single day off of training now!

That is what I meant. They will be streamed on the internet. A new league rule I guess throughout Juniors. So that parents can 'check-in' and make sure there kid is as the game if they are under 18, etc…Right now I don't have an specific location where they are going to be streamed but I will let you know. I am going to try to record them somehow too…

Thanks for the support guys! Practices start today and I am leaving for that right now!

First game is tonight. It is just an exhibition game so it doesn't really 'count' towards anything in the leagues standings.

We are playing against someone in our league though that is about 2-3 hours north of us. We then go friday to their rink to play. We come back to our rink and play Long Beach State University on saturday night.

That is the current update on what is happening with this. We start the actual game in 2 weeks, that will be great!

Hope everything is going good here.

We lost 1-3 (it was just an exhibition game). That is ok though, we didn't have any lines setup so we never played with eachother. We got our line up after warm-ups, so like 10 minutes before the actual game.

One of my linemates didn't play positioning in our defensive zone so it made my line out of position.

no points for me. I haven't played competitively for 2 years now, so I need to get the speed of the game back but I shall be deadly soon (hopefully).

Friday night we lost 5-6 against the Valencia Flyers. We were ahead 1-4 after 1 'half'. (we have been playing 25 minute halves for exhibition games). I played defense in this game but only got scored on 1 times while I was on the ice.

Tonights game was against Long Beach State. We won 4-3. My line scored all 4 goals. I personally had 2 assists, so I am happy with that and glad to get the first points out of the way. Now I just need a goal.

That is the update. Regular season starts next weekend!!

This weekend we had 3 games, 1 each day of the weekend.

Friday, we lost 2-1 against a new team in the league (RedHawks) which we should have beat. I personally got no points.

The 2nd game, saturday, we lost to a better team (Flyers) 10-5. That one our goalie situtation was kind of to blame. I had 1 assist in this game.

The 3rd game, sunday, was against the team we played on friday (RedHawks) we beat them 7-1. I had an assist in this game also but I wasn't credited for it. (oh well)

So overall right now our record is 1-2. This upcoming weekend we are facing one of the better teams in the league so hopefully we can stand our ground.

This weekend we went 1-1. Friday, we won 2-1 then, Sunday, we lost 5-2 (1 they had an open net, pulled our goalie).

Personally again I had no points got close this weekend though in both games. I have been playing pretty physical so soon points will start coming.

This weekend we fly to Boise, Idaho for a 3 game weekend.
