Make a SRL-Forums RSS Feed!

Hi. I remember at the old forums, there used to be a RSS feed that would list all the new threads and posts that happened, and was automatically updated. I am sure there is a vbulletin mod for it, and my RSS Feed Announcer in SRL's IRC will announce when a new thread or reply is made. It is guaranteed to win! (I am sure there is a mod, you can limit it to just Jr Member's accessible forums and lower, so secret members business will not be discussed ;))
In my professional opinion, it would liven up the forums while everyone is bored/idle/not doing anything else, while on the IRC. The feed announcer is also not very spammy, as I can set the checking delay higher.
Discuss. :)

No one would be able to do that. There is no user-controlled commands. It is automatic. No one can go !rss and make it spam.
(If you want to see a demo, idle in #hy71194 for a few minutes/hours, you will see it doing the CNN News feed there).
yes this could be good. I think i can make money off it also :p

I honestly don't see the point. We have iSpy. Having a RSS Announcer for new threads is useless because I'm sure people don't want to know when a new thread is ever made on the board. They could come to the forums if they want.

There was an RSS Feed at the old forum. I used it in my Google Reader for a while until I figured out it only did a few forums.

Awesome, then it should not be hard for the admins to maybe install it, and then make a feed for all new posts and threads that Jr Members are able to access? :D

I'm still not seeing the point of it.

I run the RSS Feed Announcer in the IRC chan. Usually people there are bored, and they might see an interesting discussion. Also, it will make more forum activity.

It wont make the forum more active? People in the IRC are active on SRL anyways, so it seems pointless to make the forum more active by spamming with your IRC bot in the IRC, seeing as the IRC only ever peaks about 40 people and all of them use SRL alot anyways.
Pointless idea, iSpy will be intergrated so it is more easily accessible soon anyways.

ToF, surprisingly, a lot of people are not active on the forums, nor do they care about it much. It won't spam the chan, as it will only check every 4 minutes. If the people who do not care much to check for new posts, etc, they see this, and visit the thread.
If they dislike the live RSS feed being said into the chan, they can add the special keyword I will implant into the said string, and have their client ignore any message with that string in it.

Harry, this just sounds like another excuse to promote your bot..
It just isnt needed. 20 people in the IRC who will check the forum won't make a huge different. The reason they do not check the forum is because they don't want to, seeing a thread updated won't do much.
Alot of them are active, they just dont actively post. I don't really post much but I read the new threads every day..

You're silly, why would I even care about promoting my bot?

Your other points are as lame as the others. Sorry.
A lot of people idle in a lot of IRC chans, and just flip between SRL's IRC and somewhere else. "Oh 'New Thread', looks interesting, let's check it out", making more active users.
And as I said, if someone dislikes it, they can ignore the string.

Or, if you say !rssupdate, your bot pm's you with last ..5.. reactions. It does not get the channel spammed, and Harry is still happy.

That would cause more spam probably.
And either way I am happy, but having a RSS feed going into an IRC chan is win.

Afaik, people don't spend hours staring at the board waiting for new messages. The majority of new posts are usually irrelevant to Joe the Plumber. iSpy and a RSS feed are unneeded in my opinion - "New posts" works fine and allows the same functionality without extra stuff needed. SRL is not a news organisation where users need to know the latest it has to offer.

I think it would be great instead of flipping from IRC to ISpy.
I could just stay in IRC and know everything :).

Hy: you can already use iSpy btw for your bot if you really want to.

You can not use iSpy for the bot, as it uses Javascript and Ajax, I think.
Also, if people opt-in, when the notice is sent, it would flood me out of the network :/
