It turns off randomly when im doing something, sometimes its really hot when i touch the vent on the bottom, and sometimes its not. I dled speedfan, and i have alot of crap on so it was at 79 C and i no thats EXTREMLY too high
and i restarted the computer and it went down like to 58but why does it shut off? also, one thing on the main tab of speedfan it says like 1 -2 degrees celcius
but if i click on charts it says 50 - 79 ??

No1 Cause is overheating..

Depends on the laptop/model as to how easy the cpu cooler is to get to.

generally if you can get to the fan you will find a row of fins blocked by a matted load of hair and dust. Remove it an things may return to normal assuming no permanent cpu damage has occured.

Heat can change extremely rapidly depending on load, bios temps can vary wildy from load temps.. utils like speedfan address a very niche need and are usually uselss when there is a real problem.

Does your laptop make any weird noises before it turns off? Is a particular place hotter than somewhere else?

If it makes a sound like "WARGBLRLGLBLR" then something is very wrong.

If you are unwilling to delve deeper into your laptop and service it i would sugest you make sure that when using it you keep it on a stiff board and always make sure all air intakes and exausts are always clear.

Best to keep laptops on a flat surface, e.g wooden desks (no blankets or anything, etc).

Also, please take a part your laptop and just get cloth (not wet) and remove any dust from it ;) Won't do you any damage.

Make sure you DBan Boot 'n' Nuke your hard drive before sending it in, if you have anything possibly illegal, or anything highly confidential on your laptop. I do not know the exact laws regarding if they find pirated files, etc on the laptop if they are allowed to report it, but it is best to be safe, so if they "accidentally" find your pirated stuff, or secret business papers, your stuff will be gone.

I suppose that would work also, unless they think the flaw could be with the hard drive (which I doubt), but it would be a pain to have them call you a week later saying "Oh lawds, we need dat hard drive". But yeah, that'd be the easy way to keep your data safe ;)

You don't want to take the computer apart but you're going to take the hard drive out? I'm not getting something here.

see if you can take parts of it off without breaking any seals (ie: screws underneath stickers, stickers stuck to the joint from the inside).

Trust me, it will NOT damage your laptop in any way. It'll improve it, depeding on how heavy handed you are ;) On some parts of the laptop where things are popping up (e.g conducters), just go gentle.

I'd suggest to clean the dust off first instead of taking out some parts like others are suggesting :)

of course if he breaks a seal it voids any warranties that might still be on it….

Which won't happen if he goes lightly. But they can be replaced easily though and cheaply :)
