First of all i'd suggest putting it in that order, instead of the jumble that it is atm :p

Secondly, i've been thinking about the intermidiate "level of scripting";
FindObjTPA, FindObjCustom, FindColorsTolerance and Wizzypluggin tutorials are all on the same subforum atm, intermediates.

To me it makes no sense to have Wizzypluggin + TPA tutorials at the same level as FindObjTPA because they are at two completly different levels! In fact, if you know your way around WIzzyPluggin you can make your own FindObjTPA!

This is true for few other things, as you might notice. (eg: forms)

Thinking back in time, TPAs were pretty darn advanced, i mean, The Claw won the scripting competition using FindColorToleranceSkipBoxArray when now-a-days most people would just use SplitTPA();

As time went on, more and more people learnt TPAs and therefore for SRL Members it became intermediate, to the point of even asking for them at member apps >.> !

What i would suggest would be something among these lines:

Beginners - keep as is
Intermediate - Tuts on SRL and Scar Functions
Advanced - The Behind the scenes of how to make SRL -> (TPAs, Forms, etc)
SATS - Open to Public, move most of the (atm) advanced tuts to here

To go with this chain of thought i'd also put tutorials such as 'How to make your own bmp' in the advanced part - because it is more advanced than SRL_GetBitmap(bmp_ore_tin);

As it is, making a bitmap / dtm might not seem advanced to us, but ordering it this way does have some sense.

What do you think?

I say finish whats on our plate now and discuss this later, we have much more important and pressing things to accomplish first.

bump. The Todo list has been idle for a while, and this is something that any staff can do (well, at least the moving stuff around part) and we can also ask members to report the ones that should be moved, to make it easier for us.

What do you guys think of having tut island in this way?

SATS isn't open to the public? Hmm maybe explains why I didn't notice it till I got into SSRL.

Well lets get GARS first
Then maybe make from prefix's for the tutorial now that we have that option in VB

Hobbit, we've been waiting on those add ons for ages, and wizzup has already said he quite deslikes the idea of putting more add ons.

Besides, the point here is not add ons or not, prefixes or not, it's how they are actually organized :p

vote and say what you think of the possibly new way of organizing the tuts.

The forum nesting has to be fixed. Beginners, Intermediates and Advnaced should be a sub forum of Scripting Tuts.

I agree, and how about all tutorials get posted in "Unsorted Tutorials" (no matter where they were intended to be posted) and then a mod/admin moves them to the appropriate section? Makes it easier for new users to find the right tutorials in the right section. This would only be the case for scripting related tutorials.

Organise them like that as much as you want, but I always prefer to have a list of the most current and seen as useful tutorials. It should not be so much about putting tutorials where they should be as letting people know where the tutorial they want is. If you're willing to go through the hassle of moving all the tutorials around, it would be effective to also note down good tutorials and then keep the list up to date. I believe the current lists are still good for Scar-side stuff, but out of date for SRL side stuff. Possible pruning to remove such out of date tutorials or putting them into a "tutorial trash heap" of sorts to help avoid new comers to scripting learning what they don't need to or the wrong stuff.

I have added an 'Outdated tuts' section to the first post, however, a list of 'good' tutorials can not, or should not, be done by a member of the staff as it wouldn't be fair to all. For example, i'd never put nauman's tut on failsafes rather than the claw's and that could be considered to be prefferential. The most we could do is an index as hobbit had first done.
(however, this does not stop one of you from doing so ;) )

I'd also suggest ordering them by post date :rolleyes:

So what if someone is offended that their tutorial is not on the list? The best tutorials deserve to be there, no matter who wrote them.

mixster

Agreed. Individual people are unlikely to get offended and if they do as long as it was a valid choice, other people will kill them or post agreeing with the chosen one - either outcome is good.

For example, the stickies would be part of the 'good' tutorials. Do people get angry when someone elses tutorial gets stickied, no.

I like the ideas, especially the out of date tutorial one. :)

If people post in the unsorted tuts section I wouldn't mind going through and moving them. I just need something to remind me to move them or else I'll forget or not notice it. Also I don't really think we need a SATS section, it could be merged with Advanced.

I can set the forum to send emails or PMs on new posts

I could set it to send to You, me, RM (and anyone else willing)

Yes I suppose that would be good.

Anyway I never mentioned my position on this:

Beginners - keep as is
Intermediate - Tuts on SRL and Scar Functions
Advanced - The Behind the scenes of how to make SRL -> (TPAs, Forms, etc)
SATS - Open to Public, move most of the (atm) advanced tuts to here

I agree with that^ But have SATS merged with Advanced - I don't see anything that is really super advanced in SCAR.
