Revamping the cup system!
Sir R. M8gic1an

okay guys, i've been thinking for a while and the cup system didn't seem to be quite working at the level which it could be. This might be for many reasons;
- We get lazy to post cup suggestions
- We forget to post cup suggestions
- We think "oh helpful" but don't bother to check if the person would deserve the cup
- We are too strict on cups
- We are too greedy ?
- We are not enought to nominate everyone who deserves a cup
- Add another reason here?
i'm not saying these are the reasons; Personally all of those reasons have been part of why i might have not nominated somene for a cup, and probably for some of you. If there are other reasons you can think of then post them :)
So here is my suggestion:
We get a new, more efficient, cup nominating system! - How?
Each time someone reports a post there is a new thread made in the mod's boards which shows who reported, what the reason was, the reported post and who posted it. Also, when two people report the same post, it adds to the thread. (i hope it's explained well enough )
What I was thinking is that we could get a similar system for cup nominations;
- A button next to infraction button
– When you click on the button you nominate the person for a cup
— The nomination shows up in "Cup Nominations" forum
— Along with this we see who nominated, what the post was and who the poster was
—- Possibly we let SRL Members nominate
So a thread is created in Cup Nominations; what then? We vote and discuss it as usual :)
It becomes easier and less painful to nominate, if SRL Members are allowed we get more eyes (to find good nominations) and if the nomination is bad we just reject it.
Also, it should be fairly easy to implement as it would be the same mod as post reports (possibly but not necessarily throw in a twist or two).
I don't think there's anything to lose, really.
What do you guys think?
~RM
I like this idea a lot RM. Although I think that if srl members had this power aswell that there would be WAY too many of these cup nomination points. How many active ssrl members, devs, and mods do we have together? There's enough I think.
Just because you give someone a cup point or whatever we will call them, it doesn't necessarily mean that we are nominating them, does it? Like, if we see someone test 1 script and report bugs thoroughly, that doesn't mean that they automatically deserve a testers cup, but they do if they get enough of them, right? Or if someone does one good thorough look over someones script when voting, that doesn't mean that they deserve valued voter cup, but if they do it enough times they do.
I think that it's a great idea though. But I think that we should keep the section to poll people, but this will probably be used mostly.

i meant that a new poll is created in ssrl ;)
So yeah, no auto cups - all of it goes through us

Oh, ok. I thought you meant like we could all like "rep" a person for a cup, and then once they got enough good "rep" built up from enough different people they would get manually cupped.
I guess it would be nice to be able to nominate someone for a cup a little more conveniently. But I don't think that it will really change the cup system that much by just making it a little bit more convenient to nominate people for cup(s), do you?

i think it might - many times i think of nominating someone and then forget about it; If i had this button i'd just do it immediately;
I guess we can always try and see

OK, I guess it would be nice to have that. Just when I saw the thread title I thought something more miraculous was going to happen like what I said above.
I think that if we did have this, srl members would be able to nominate without having access to the forum, which would be a great thing.

I'd avoid something more miraculous - such as cup points = cup - because of friends nominating friends. Wouldn't be too good if it happened like that :p

One post doesn't usually make me decide when to nominate someone for a cup. So I wouldn't what post to report to cup suggestions.

That's why I said keep it ssrl+ though. I don't think that anyone in ssrl will be requesting cup points from each other. We're all mature enough to handle that :p and anyways, if the person doesn't deserve a cup, they aren't auto cupped anyways.
And if we did your idea for srl members, then I am 100% sure some friends would be nominating friends.
I just thought that with the points system, it would work good because then each time I see a great vote on an appliance, a great test report on a script, someone making a very helpful post, or someone releasing a good tutorial, I could give them a point, instead of needing to look through all of their posts to make sure that they have done these things several times to make sure that they are worthy of the cup (terrible run-on sentence, sorry). I thought that that was the biggest problem with cups: you see 1 good post, then you need to search for several more to see if they are worthy of the cup.
I like your idea too.

let me try to re-explain, cus there are things that you mention that are part of the idea;
When you suggest someone for a cup a new thread is created.
If someone suggests the same person for a cup a new post ON THE SAME THREAD is created. So the posts start to accumulate.
Say i nominate Saturn for voters on an app;
and you nominate him on another app
and bobarkinator on yet a diff one.
There would be 1 thread nominating him, with 3 posts as "evidence" that he deserves the cup

OK, well I guess that's pretty much the same thing as doing points. Each post is a "point" or whatever you want to call it, that with enough of them will get that person a cup.
I think that members with a cup count > 0 could have the privilege to do this? Or something like that to not allow the whole members group to be able to flood us with posts to look through.
Shouldn't be too hard to implement. I like it.

Love the idea, then follow with until X posts of evidence are shown the player isn't polled. It'd be a cool system. Would it not be hard to add?
I think it should be SSRL though, only.

I'd definitely agree with this idea. I think that when you click the nominate button it should open a window with check boxes or a drop-down menu with cups and you can select the one you'd want to nominate that person for. It'd keep the Cup Nominations section more organize if we could get it to generate a title for the thread like "SonSo for CupNameHere".
I also think each time a person is suggested for a cup, that post should be added as a quote to the original Cup Nomination post, or else with discussion by us in that thread the separate evidence would be split apart and harder to find.

The system you thought of seems very nice Rasta, enable that to members aswell, and keep it the same way as reports are, e.g if I report a post, I will not see the thread and neither will anyone else below SSRL…

Humhm. That involves extra coding tho, i say we can give it a go, if there's any need mods+ can just merge the posts. If we then see it happens often we can (read: wizzy can :P) add to the code.

Hmmm well so far I haven't found a mod to do it easy though I have thought of a way to do it ourselves.
Steps:
1. Find where in the themes the report post button is.
2. Basically copy the code and make another button
3. Alter button code for new icon, link, position, etc
4. Create another form (like SRL Members app)
5. Have button link to form
6. Have form post in cup suggestions forum.
BAM done :)
Wizzup I will start testing on my dummy forum if you want? (let me know if you even like this idea before i waste time :p )

I think it would give us more "eyes" around the forum so we can award those we deserve awarding. Can anyone think of any negatives to this?

Wizzup says he has already seen this although he didn't share his thoughts, so i guess he's still thinking it over; If that is the case i say we be positive and get it as organized as possible :)
here is Hobbit's way of doing it:
From: Hobbit
Steps:
1. Find where in the themes the report post button is.
2. Basically copy the code and make another button
3. Alter button code for new icon, link, position, etc
4. Create another form (like SRL Members app)
5. Have button link to form
6. Have form post in cup suggestions forum.
The way it works:
- SRL Members + (or ssrl+) press a button over the post to suggest someone for a cup
- A thread gets created in ssrl
- if more people suggest the same person, replies are added to the thread
- ssrl discusses it and votes
- cups are awarded or not, usual method
Positives:
- Easier to suggest
- ? More people able suggest
- Decisions still taken by ssrl+
Negatives:
- Perhaps too many suggestions - i find it unlikely

Easy enough to see whether or not it's worth discussing them upon looking at the number of suggestions and the like. As said, the only negative is the production of the system. Duping the report system is the best solution though as Hobbit somewhat said.

Yes but report post system can only post in one section. So then it would post in reported post section then we would have to move to SRL etc.
We could
mimic the reported post system with some CSS edits.
