SRL Stats.

Wizzup?

Seeing the current SRL-Stats are now really down, we need a new system.

There are roughly three options:

  • "Old System"
  • Keep the old system's way of storing data. (I will rewrite it from scratch, but we would roughly keep the same kind of database and stats.) The old system just has one entry for each user and script, and increases variables in there. There is no history function whatsoever. Every entry overrides all the previous ones. Although they usually just increase. ;) This system is of course compatible with the old one.
  • "Extended System"
  • Use a whole new sort of database, that log just about every possible thing that can be logged, and will be able to turn them into very interesting graphs. (It will log everything per user, randoms, variables, what script, etc.) The system will use alot more DB space. (That shouldn't a be a problem?) My main objection again this system is when people would want a HTML interface to view stats. The load for viewing pages would probably be a bit higher than the old system, forcing caching of files. This would be quite hard to implement. Also, because the Extended system has much more features, making PHP/HTML code for all the different results it can display would take time. This system will also be backwards compatible with the old system, it will even be able to 'remove' history every month, so the database space would be about the same as the old one on the beginning of every month. (I hope I won't need to use this 'history whiper'.) Also note that it only removes 'history', not actual minutes or other numbers, only when they were committed and such. This is a small file I made, it contains some of the actions the system would have. It is probably not clear to you at all, it was to me when I wrote it though…

    main:
    -> default
    -> Top X users -> users -> default
    -> Top Y scripts -> scripts -> default
    -> Total Time
    -> Total events -> events -> default
    -> Total variables -> variables -> default

    script:
    -> default stats
    -> top X users -> users -> script
    -> random events -> users -> randoms
    -> script variables. users -> script variables
    -> Detailed stats
    -> All users. -> Users -> Script -> X
    -> Sort by:
    -> Time -> Idem
    -> Event(s) -> Idem
    -> Variables -> Idem

    user:
    -> default stats
    -> Random events -> Users -> Randoms
    -> Variables -> Users -> Variables
    -> Script ownership -> Script -> Default
    -> Scripts used, User.
    -> Total stats rank. (X out of Y) -> Main -> Top X users ->
    -> Extended stats
    -> Failed Random Events / Solved -> Users -> Randoms -> Detailed stats.
    -> Variables per hour -> Variables -> Detailed stats
    -> User Stats for a certain script
    -> Total Randoms & Variables
    -> Total time
    -> Rank at the script.

    randoms && variables:
    -> default stats
    -> Total

    -> Detailed stats
    -> 10 users who have the variable || random the most.
    -> 10 scripts who have the variable || random the most.
    -> Randoms: Solved versus Failed
    -> Variables: Average per hour.
    -> Main
    -> Most gotten event
    -> Event with highest and lowest solving rate.

  • "Mixture"
  • The latest option is a combination of both. I would drop the entire history feature, but script variables would be shared. As in, there will only be one 'Iron Ore' variable. This would be nice if we would want to find all the Iron Ore SRL has mined. This feature is ofcourse also supported in the "Extended system". This system would also be backwards compatible.

I personally like the Extended System the most, but I don't know how practical it is, and I can't promise I will finish it in very near future. The other two Systems shouldn't be hard to make, and will take less time to create as well.

What do you guys and girls think?

EDIT: For graphs: http://pchart.sourceforge.net/index.php

i like the idea of graphs
if you had a graph that showed the amount of autoing done by everyone, without giving names.

bit like grand exchange graphs

benjaa

the global variables idea is schweet, "total iron ore srl has mined"

that would look so good

if you made like a box to tick of the 50 most popular things in rs

Enemies killed, Ess mined, Iron mined, chickens killed, feathers collected, bones buried, etc

I vote for the old system. If it aint broke don't fix it..

You always have the option of extending it at a later date but the priority for now should be to get it up and running.

also if you give too much flexibility to a new stats system it will inevitably grow out of all control and become an unwielding monster that consumes all the resources it can.

No, the code will probably remain nearly 100% the same. It won't change in any case.

I don't think it will eat that much CPU. The only thing that will use more CPU than normal is you guys loading the php pages when browsing your stats, unless I cache and update every hour… ;)

Dan Cardin

extended seems like a nice step forward. It may well seem excessive now, but depending on where rs goes, it seems like it would be able to easily adapt to add more and more different things to record if need be. Then Instead of erasing the history, i would just compress it, for the current month you'd have whole month's stats, this week's, and one for every day, then at the end of the month, you just change it to a cumulative whole month and 1 for the cumulative year. I hope this makes sense, with my lack of knowledge of what exactly is put into stats. Overall there doesnt seem like any reason to not do the extended since the only person that it really puts a burden on is Wizzup and since he came up with the idea, he seems willing to do it.

And seeing as its been a while, i would guess that its already been started.

I mainly want it to have a clearer overview, you could've just asked people to post reasons for their votes.

But in either way, it's passed some time since this thread was posted, and I believe people's opinions are clear.
Have you reached a decision yet?

Well, I don't know how you meant that, but the reset is just a must, because of the way the new SRL Stats will work.

You can check the progress here.
Keep in mind that the page will change often, and contain "graphical" bugs, as I am constantly editing the code and design, as well as constantly adding more functionality.

Nielsie*

SRL Stats != RS Character Management.
I may possibly even add RuneScape Character specific stats (Every user can own unlimited amounts of RS Chars)

For the actual management, no. This isn't a Character Management project, so I will not add the stuff nielsie has in his Script Management.
It requires a totally different database approach, and a different interface.

Won't do.

@ Rogeruk:

Scripts Sigs are still a good idea, but you should keep in mind the script variables aren't limited. Although I wouldn't really see anyone use more than 20 vars. :)

rogeruk

2009-08-27 02:50:20

Thats not a problem if you use a PHP script to generate each scripts sig then it will be dynamic and auto-matically contain the vars that are in that script.

Simply just write what is passed.

Thats not a problem if you use a PHP script to generate each scripts sig then it will be dynamic and auto-matically contain the vars that are in that script.

Simply just write what is passed.

I wasn't referring to that. I was referring to a case where a script would have 50 variables. It won't fit on the signature image.

Oh i see. Small pixel font should do it. Forums are pretty wide could always use the width

Dan Cardin

2009-08-28 02:14:10

you could just get a picture that could be continued dynamically for how ever long it needs to be. Something like Rogeruk's horizontal stripes could be used and just have it copy another line down for every 3 vars (assuming you could fit 3 per line). Theoretically it could leave you with a very tall signature, but i doubt there's much of a way to get around that with an infinite number of vars (unless you truncated them at some point)

Any suggestions are welcome. For script stats could always have some sort of NPC that represents what the script is.

Eg… Script belongs in Magic.. could have an Infernal mage as the picture.. Woodcutter could have an Ent etc..

OK. So currently I think I can finish it in a day or so, but I'm still flooded with all the information I can add. I often find myself to keep adding info to the page, like this: http://old.villavu.com/merlijn/srlstats/website/index.php?p=ri&r=12

But that's overkill…

The actual coding isn't hard, but to display all that information…

I hope you guys will forgive me for not completing this project just yet.
Only a few things are left. A html interface to add and manage scripts (This is mainly just annoying and boring to make) and a script side to "send" stats to the system.
If anyone with php and html knowledge wants to help, I'll give him access to the repository and commit my latest code. The code is not pretty at all, and may need some revising later. At least it is pretty fast, so that will keep the server load low. :p

Grrr. Sorry it is taking so long. Life's keeping me so busy! (Just got a new phone too… :( )

You can keep track of further development here:
http://vila.villavu.com/cgi-bin/gitweb/gitweb.cgi?p=srlstats.git;a=summary

This weekend I hope to have some time to add the Client <-> Web page functionality to one can actually send their stats data. The only thing left then is the online script / account manager. (Which is annoying to make)

After that is done… I may port it to PostgreSQL rather than MySQL…

After that…Perhaps a full rewrite, but at least we'll have something working by then.

EDIT: In case I didn't mention, any help is welcome. The code isn't very readable (I'll clean it up later), bit it isn't hard to understand either… Well, except for the SQL perhaps.

You can have unlimited, and the vars are also shared globally in the sense that there is only one 'Iron Ore' variable. Then we can see how many Iron Ore ALL scripts together mined, etc.

Yea I guess XML will work, as long as it's phrasible.

Hmm, intrestesting concept with the global variables, but will there be a difference between like "Essence mined" "Essenced crafted" "Iron ore mined" "Iron ore dropped" ect… and who will be setting these variables? Will I be able to submit a 'global' variable name?

Maybe when adding a var to your scripts stats you can choose from a listbox? Then if chosen "Other" you can specify a new variable. And every new variable could be added to global var list? Just an idea.

Why? Should'nt take long to create, but if you're short in time then it might be a bit boring to "waste" time with that. But keeping the whole idea of the tables in database in your head is another story ;) (I'm guessing there are plenty of complex tables.)

Actually, this isn't Nielsie's system… I think it can be a possibility, but my main problem with it is that it hardly serves a purpose.

There is one thing I really don't like, and that is if scripts connect to some site WITHOUT the user knowing it does. If the user allows the script to connect, then he may as well just create an account on the Stats System.

More or less I was referring to The Mans 'T.E.M.P.' Account (because the temporary system will log everyone who uses its usernames), I think this would be a good idea to have this or something like the current system where it still sends script usage info at least.

Yes. However, I were to go to some site, I download a program and a so called ``script'', and it suddenly tells me it wants to connect to some site, I would immediately close the program, remove every trace of it, and run a full virus scan. (Playing devils advocate…)

I can see where you're coming from, but the script already asks for username/password/bankpin ect.. so it's probably trust-able if not then people wouldn't have even downloaded/tried to use it.

I just think it would avoid a lot of annoying 'default' accounts like we had last time SRL Stats were around if we just made it update if you don't have an stats account setup.

I guess it's your call though, we could always change it if it doesn't work out well though ;)

IceFire is talking about SMS. The Man uses a default account, which is useless and indeed could make usernames public.

Idk about wizzups, but Nielsies stats still record all stats to the overall script progress, even if the user doesn't input a username/password into he script.

So the script overall usage is updated, even if no user/pass.

I'm sure Wizzups will also just have an 'overall overview' of EVERYTHING, regardless of weather or not the script users put in a user/pass.

However, if people use default accounts, those accounts and all the stats associated with those accounts can easily be removed, without touching any other scripts.
