There is nothing wrong with weed, tell me why smoking and alcohol should be legal, while a drug that causes less deaths, has been known to cure almost every disease its been used against, including cancer, is not addictive like smoking and is 100% natural should be illegal.
the first time weed was made illegal in the united states was due to racism, the government decided that if you smoked weed you were just like the weed smoking black people or Mexicans, the law was passed and fit it quite nicely with another law, it is illegal for a black man to step on a white mans shadow…[sarcasm] no racism there [\sarcasm]
it was later legal again
but shortly after came the pot smoking hippies protesting the war in Vietnam
now when Nixon noticed the majority of war protesters smoked weed, he made it illegal and declared a war on drugs, now he had a reason to just arrest the protesters, without taking freedom of speech.

Kinda good arguments there..
I just got a question tho,
If Weed was legal more people would start smoking it, which means more deaths.
also, The whole wide world can't be high - That just end in more deaths.
tazzin44
2009-03-27 11:59:32
it doesnt matter if more people smoked it, the yearly number for deaths as a direct relation to smoking it are 0, and theres over a million users, in north america alone.
it doesnt cause black lungs like tobacco, it doesnt cause cancer like tobacco, in fact its been used to cure it
www.phoenixtears.ca i believe is the url for a site about a man who has used it to cure his terminal cancer and distrubuted it it free to other cancer sufferers.
the only problem with it being legal is that its such a potent medicine that the pharmaceutical companies can't compete with it, and cannot patent it since it is natural therefore they can make no money off it, while people can grow it in their own homes and be cured from most ailments for free.
in fact its such a valuable medicine, pharm companies have tried to create the thc molecule in a lab, so they can patent it, however just like vitamin pills, your body doesnt get the same out of it, than if you were taking the natural source of the vitamins

Yeah the US drug policy for marijuana is so hypocritical. Alcohol and Cigarettes have killed millions of people not only from the actual effects on the body, but from the second hand effects on other people (drunk driving and second hand smoke).
It is a fact that you cant overdose on marijuana, however you can overdose on alcohol and nicotine.
I dont agree with people saying that smoking weed doesnt affect your lungs at all though. Any smoke in your lungs is harmful. On the other hand… most marijuana users do not smoke enough to notice damages to their health. If you smoke weed as often as a smoker smokes cigarettes you are likely to have similar ailments that a cigarette smoker would have. I always stick to the mentality that anything in moderation is okay. Most normal people wont abuse marijuana to the point where it affects their health.
I think the most dangerous part about marijuana is the fact that it is a criminal offense to even posses. The only real way smoking weed could "fuck up your life" is if you get caught with it. Which, by the way, is complete bullshit. The US needs to at the very least decriminalize it.

However, you can always find something more harming than weed…
I've never tried it, but I can certainly say that it is bad for you.
Or, lets say : more of bad effects than good ones.
To the one saying alcohol never killed anyone, just the secondary effects :
Haven't you seen these guys who choke on their own vomit after too much of it ? Or get un-healable brain damages ? The livers of abusive drinkers ?

I think there's no question that smoking marijuana is physically harmful. Scientific studies have repeatedly established that marijuana smokers have a higher incidence of cancer, higher incidence of dental problems, increased incidence of psychosis, increased impairment of cognition and motor skills, increased incidence of obesity, and are much more likely to abuse other drugs. In people with mental health issues, (which marijuana use itself increases) in addition to the above problems using marijuana also makes them prone to diabetes, and they die earlier than those who never smoked marijuana.
A recent scientfic study found that drug availability was the single most important factor in whether someone tries marijuana, becomes addicted to it, and becomes an abuser.
"Pathways to cannabis abuse: a multi-stage model from cannabis availability, cannabis initiation and progression to abuse." March 2009
They followed 1772 adult twin males, and found that those with greatest access to marijuana were much more likely to try it and become abusers.
So, unless someone can come up with a better way to restrict the availability of marijuana to minors, the law should remain in place.

I disagree with a couple of these.
People being too lazy to brush their teeth should not be blamed on weed.
Obviously it impairs motor skills, otherwise people probably wouldn't like it so much. I have never seen a case though were it has lasted for more than a couple hours.
Increased obesity? Munchies?…If you dont want to be fat, dont eat more than you should, or maybe excersize? I really dont believe though that Smoking weed can directly be a cause of obesity. I've been smoking for about 4 years now?(Not necessarily everyday) and Im 6'1 and 170 pounds. I see nothing wrong with that?

Clearly the more available something is the more people are going to try it.
Thats like saying someone did a study and gave 1 twin a snickers, but didnt give the other twin one. Just because the one twin didnt get the candy bar doesnt mean he didnt want it or wont go get one. It was just more available for the other twin.
Seems like kind of a pointless study to me…

The biggest problem.
The only reason I can see 'pot' leading to harder drugs would be your own curiosity. It has nothing to do with the "drug" itself, but your own mind. You like the feel of weed so you try something even stronger.
IF YOU DONT WANT TO DO HARD DRUGS, THEN DONT DO HARD DRUGS! Minors just dont seem to think with Logic when they should sometimes.

Other problems associated with cannabis use.
Gruber AJ, Pope HG, Jr, Hudson JI, Yurgelun-Todd D. Attributes of long-term heavy cannabis users: a case-control study. Psychol Med. 2003;33:1415–1415
40% lower college graduation rate. Significantly lower income. (More than half of heavy users reported income less than $30,000 per year, while less than 25% of non-users had that low of income). Heavy users also stated that marijuana had negative effects upon their cognition, memory, career, social life, physical health and mental health.
The same study reported that 97% of heavy cannabis users reported driving on a regular basis while "intoxicated". And only 44% of them had children.
So, if that all sounds good to you, then I guess marijuana is the way to go.

Nice thread first of all :P
Anyway, I did a research on Cannabis Sativa (Known as Marijuana), just recently, and throughout my entire time of research, I have actually came down to a dozens and dozens of facts proving the Marijuana has NEVER caused death to ANYONE through the thousands and thousands of years that people have been smoking it. Its one of the OLDEST plants used for not only cultural and religious ceremonial services but mainly also as a medicine (Thought even older than this, opium was used as a medicine aswell).
Marijuana is definetly NOT addictive, though when people smoking it THINK/BELIEVE it is addictive, there minds start playing games such as giving them upset stomach and headaches thinking they are really addicted, but these are not symtoms of addictions because once they are clear it is not addictive it all of a sudden frees there mind and no longer continue. (This is a FACT, my teacher discussed this in class when I finished my presentation about this subject).
Marijuana has been used for as long back as we can go, scientists found pictures and carvings of instructions with the very plant proving that it was being used as a medicine long before, therefore this plant has been known as one of the best non-occasional medicine since god knows when. And making it illegal is not going to stop anyone from continuing to use it, its mostly just a political game to why Marijuana is illegal. Think bout it it, if the government made this legal in North America, how will this possibly benefit them? It will only hurt there fundings if it was legal sice people will then start smoking marijuana all the time and forget about cigarettes therefore no profit for the government, they only loose. And if they did start selling marijuana cigarettes instead, there is a good chance people would rather grow it in there basement still causing low profit for the government.
Anyways to conclude, Marijuana is a very useful drug but then again, it does have a good chance of being abused! If taken without sense of realization (ex: just smoking like a mofo and giving a damn for your surroundings) it can cause harm to the society. Though I think they should make Marijuana LEGAL, but treat it more with care such as alcohol. The government should sell it like alcohol, but make it illegal to grow it at home such as how alcohol is illegal to brew at home.
These are all my point of views based on mostly facts and data I've researched recently, so I may be wrong on some areas :P Therefore do not believe entirely 'till you research some of the information i've said yourself!
p.s: What tarajunky said above is also mostly true, it does effect pretty much heavily if you use it too excessively, therefore use with caution and know your surroundings!

Im curious to know how "succesful" these people were
before they started smoking/participated in this study. My bets would be:
-They
already dropped out.
- They
already werent looking for a better job, if any at all.
- They
already had Social/ physical/mental illnesses.
and anyone that actually smokes would know that by the time you gain the label " heavy cannabis users", you have such a tolerance to it, that it hardly effects you at all.
The majority of people I know act little/no different at all when they are high. They might smile/laugh more. Is smiling bad?

Ok, so here we basically have a split between the people who believe everything the (US) government says about weed, and the people who believe none of it.
In terms of the "gateway drug" thing, I think one of the best places to look at for a comparison is between the US and the Netherlands. In the US, it's classified as a hard drug and treated as such. In the Netherlands, you have to be 18 to buy it and it's rather easy to get (if you're of age) and it's completely separated from hard drugs (meth, heroine, cocaine, etc.). See
http://drugwarfacts.org/cms/?q=node/67 (which looks like it's put together by someone from University of Amsterdam, Netherlands). From what it looks like, though I might just be reading it wrong, there are
less people who smoke than in the US, where it's outlawed with rather extreme penalties. There was a quote that I can't seem to find that said something to the effect of "The punishment for using a drug shouldn't be worse than the drug itself." Isn't that true if we're trying to "protect" people from the drug? It's as if some people lose focus on why laws exist and instead go overboard on enforcing them (*cough*
copyright*cough*).
It's not like people are going to stop smoking soon, even if you convince them that there's huge side effects. If you blindfold someone and tell them enough that you're going to dip their hand in boiling water, they'll insist their hand was burned even if you put it in freezing water (I can look for a source if you want but you've probably already heard of something similar).
tl;dr Pot is more of a social drug than people think, and the "side effects" usually aren't related to the drug itself but more of the user's surroundings.

It's true that you can't conclude that marijuana CAUSED all of these problems. It's particularly hard to do that with marijuana because there are often other drugs involved as well (since it's a gateway drug).
But it's kind of like playing the lottery. Playing the lottery might not singlehandedly cause you to be dumb and poor. But the fact that the vast majority of people that play the lottery are pretty dumb and pretty poor means you're not putting yourself in very good company by behaving like they do.

I can agree with that.

(since it's a gateway drug).
Should Candy cigarettes be blamed for all the people who have died from lung cancer? I mean it makes sense right? kids eat the little sugar sticks known as a Candy Cigarette, they think it's cool, so they smoke cigarettes, then die from lung cancer.
Must be because of those candy cigarettes right?
..No.
That is why I dont feel that Marijuana should be blamed for people doing hard drugs. Pot didn't
make them do other drugs. They chose too.
You dont get some ridiculous feeling when you smoke weed that makes you crave hard drugs. Its simply human curiosity.
Have you ever heard the phrase "Curiosity Killed The Cat"?
Apply that here.
I know people who did Cocaine before they even saw weed in real life.
Marijuana being a "Gateway Drug" is only an excuse for the low life scums that need something to blame their life-long fail on.
Thats my opinion anyways.

Ok, im 16 and I have been smoking weed for about 7-9 months now? Im talking maybe, a dime a week? I go to Brooklyn technical high school which is on the top 30 highschools list in the USA. I live in brooklyn new york. Some of you maybe heard that this is not the best or most peacful place in the world, but this is where i grew up and currently live my life. Especially in my case it is not so easy. However, when i smoke all the stress just goes away and i start to think so clearly and relax. That is just its effect on me though. I knew people that just became stupid and ruined their life smoking weed and getting drunk all the time. My point is that weed has different effects on people. For me, weed helps me in life, it helps me concentrate in school because i get relaxed and at the same time i have fun with weed, while still being on point. Sometimes i smoke with my gf and its great. Others however just become very slow and uncoordinated. Those are the people that should NOT smoke weed because it will get them fucked over. If weed gets legalized then the people that it has bad effects on that never smoked it will have no reason not to, so they will smoke it. Might like it, and then start abusing it. Thats when their life will go down the drain. I think that for benifit of others weed should remain illegal. I dont mind getting a ticket for a dime or dub if i know that legalizing will do more harm to others.
EDIT: BTW, my gpa actually got higher since i started smoking. I used to have problems concentrating in class and hw. Not anymore though.

Last year was year 12 (last year of highschool) and I smoked almost daily apart from a month I took off before exams for studying. Final marks: Straight A+'s for english, physics, chemistry and IT, and A+, A, A for methods. Which got me into the best uni in the country. Pretty sure weed doesnt make you stupid.
Weed has medicinal properties. Full stop. Forget about the biased "studies", ask any stoner how weed helps them and they'll give you a page-long report. (If they're not too lazy)
It's worth comparing the crime and deaths etc. caused by weed with alcohol. Alcohol makes people go fucking crazy on the roads in their cars which kills people, and causes fights. Weed mellows you out.
And there's not one single case of weed causing a death. Hundreds of thousands of people die each year from alcohol related problems (liver failure, cancer etc). The same is true for ciggarette-smoking related problems. Weed causes exactly none.
And it's still illegal?

But what if you're 60 now and you've been smoking twice a week since you turned 20 in 1969. You probably didn't neglect your education in the last 5 years, you did it 40 years ago. You probably didn't choose your career last year, you did it 30 years ago.

This really depends on the person not the drug. If you choose to be a heavy user in anything you will most likely suffer from some sort of effect eg eating alot of chocolate can result in being fat or having health issues such as diabetes and this is no different from marijuana or any other drug.

My friend does it alot and since he started he's changed so much due to it. He got mentally addicted to it. You cannot say that it isnt addictive, your bring vague. It is not physically addictive, if you stop using it your body wont have any adverse effects. It is a mental addiciton, you feel like you need the cannabis, you attribute it to things like stress and so you start smoking it when you are stressed.
And our body is actually adapted to have an effect when we smoke cannabis. When we was still in the sea, IE millions of years ago, the small sea creatures adapted receptors much like neurones but called cannabanoids. These receptors normally lay dormant, but when you smoke cannabis the THC in the cannabis fills in these receptors so that they start to work, which gives you the euphoric sensation of 'high'. I mean, if our body has these receptors which only work when we smoke cannabis, why is it shunned so? I mean, our bodies are adapted to use it.
I have tried cannabis, and the euphoric high was fun, but seeing what my friend has now turned out like, I dont do it anymore. I dont want to turn out like him, even though I may not, as he may have just had an adverse reaction or he has a highly addictive personality.
On a seperate note, I've quit smoking too! My friend is 16 and has a smokers cough worse than his 50 year old aunt, and they smoke pretty much the same. I dont want to turn out like that, either.

From my knowledge (which can be debated openly) straight pot is "healthier" than tobacco as cigarettes include chemicals to burn at a higher temperature which cause cancer however a large number of people mix the two therefore defeating the point. Secondly the new, stronger strains of pot have been proven to show an increase of serious mental diseases like schizophrenia. Also the debate about deaths due to drink vs. weed I believe is down to the fact the alcohol is more widely accepted and available. Despite this I am aware of its medicinal benefits as well as cultural (which to me is no different to our cultural acceptance to alcohol) significance. I just believe that if we were to go to a less potent, earlier strain (not genetically modified to keep up with the harder drugs) and then regulated (or lack there of) like alcohol I see very little problems.

Now, its when YOU try and stop ME from making a personal choice to do it that it gets wrong.
I mean, I could go inject bleach right now if I wanted, that's one hullva lot more harmful than any drug out there… and yet bleach is legal? I should be able to make a personal choice, and live with the consequences. If your going to try and turn society into a white padded room where we all are very, very safe… ban pretty much everything.
I couldn't care less about opiates, amphetamines or any of that. Psychedelics are the only drugs worth doing anyway, they're the only ones that will ever have a markedly positive change on anyone's life. Its a real shame the government is afraid of them, they have great potential for a therapy tool. (@NCDS: But I've never tried an opiate, I could be wrong :p)

If weed was legal less people would smoke it because it's not illegal and therefore nobody would get arrested for smoking it. Some people smoke it just because it's illegal and they want to break the law.
However, more people may also smoke it because it is legal and the people that always obey the law might smoke it.

Seriously I mean no offense to you but that is such bullshit (mainly the second part). People won't smoke it to "obey" the law. There may be some pathetic people who do it to be cool because its illegal but I don't really see anyone doing it alot for that reason alone.

I've heard u overdose on marijuana after 94gram (not sure). But its really unlikely for anyone to consume such amount. They actually gave quite a big amount of marijuana to a dog to see how much u actually need to overdose, the dog was high for a day or two but turned out fine. My self i dont smoke anymore, but have plenty of friends that do, I think its fine, some people get aggressive by alchohol and get really chilled out by marijuana, and i'd much rather see my friends chilled out than aggressive. So …
FREE THE WEED
I don't see any point in legalizing it. It's not necessary nor does it benefit anyone in any way, and the people that see it absolutely necessary and can't manage without it most likely aren't any use for the community anyway.
Also about the addictive part (compred to smoking tobacco): it takes years for a person to develop a strong nicotine addiction, and even after that it's mainly on the "mental level". You won't get addicted to smoking either if you smoke every now and then, but if it becomes a habit you will get addicted, and as weed makes you feel good and you regularily smoke it I'd imagine you'll get addicted to it even more easily (of course if you can afford it, but if it was legal it'd be way, way cheaper too).
It pretty surely will never be legalized, and all that "YAY LETS SWAP ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO TO WEED AND EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT" stuff is just… Silly. If you really think about it it'd be pretty retarded, and I really doubt most people would swap alcohol to weed.
One last thing that always confuses me is that how did hippies or w/e weed activists come up with the idea that smoking weed will lower the chance of getting cancer? You still breath smoke, it's not that magical of a plant (people convinced it's harmless seem to blindly believe anything as long as "yeah there was some research about it somewhere" etc. mentioned, although same goes for people againts it too). And when you read "debates" about this on the internet these days it seems to be like:
"LOL WEED KILLS YOU OR TURNS YOU INTO A HOMELESS LOWLIFE BUM." <–Mainly silly people.
"omg rofl no weed makes you cool and you can do shit like shoot lazers out of your eyes, fly and throw elephants around with your superpowers and it also cures all possible diseases plus it permanently increases your iq by 6000 im so damn cool saying i smoke weed on the internet i bet everyone thinks im a badass now." <– Mainly 11-14 yr olds who have never even seen weed.
Just depends which crappy propaganda you choose to believe in "LOL GO WEED" or "NO WEED". I think both sides are full of crap and lies and I really couldn't care less about weed or people obsessed about legalizing or keeping it illegal so I'm pretty neutral about this.
Weed is cool on the internetz so everyone on the internetz smokes it every day.

1) it doesn't take years to develop a strong smoking addiction, it takes months, and no it isn't on the mental level, it has the drug nicotine in it, which is highly addictive physically, whereas weed does not have any addictive properties, if someone smokes a cigarette a day for 1 year and then stops suddenly, they will experience withdrawals, if someone smokes a joint a day, hell make it 10 joints a day, for a year and then stops in the same manner they will experience no withdrawals, as there is nothing in it to make your body think it needs it.
2) swapping weed for alcohol and tobacco would be an excellent thing for society, but like you said not going to happen, not for your reasons as personally (and i know a lot of others who agree with me on this point) i prefer weed to liquor any day, but because of the money, the government, pharmaceutical, and booze companies make disgusting amounts of money on all these things and just like oil companies allowing an oil free society, this just wont happen.
3) it's never been said that it will lower your chance of getting cancer, but it has been used to cure cancer(see a link i provided on the first page), it was used to cure a friend of mines terminal cancer.
Yes you still breathe in smoke but tell me how many types of chemicals are in cigarettes versus a joint, the only thing in smoking a join that causes harm to the body is the carbon emissions you get from any type of combustion, not from any chemicals in the plant being burned like in tobacco, so also like i said before if your worried about the minute carbon emissions then use a vaporisor. The fact that you can so easily compare the harms of smoking a cigarette and smoking a joint makes me wonder where you get your information from.

Is it worth it? They say weed isn't as bad as tobacco, yadda yadda yadda. Fact of the matter is it's still bad for you! Is it really worth killing yourself to get high? (and that's completely ignoring the great things you could do with the money you'd save..)
EDIT: Just noting that tobacco itself isn't the worst component in cigarettes, its the additional chemicals the companies put into their cigarettes. Whats to stop the same from happening to joints if marijuana is legalized? (not that all marijuana you buy on the streets is pure or anything, but at least some is..)

I recently got caught smoking pot and going to class high. Wasn't that bad except now I have to go to drug counseling for hardcore druggies and I got alot of information from the course. One joint is equal to 5 cigarettes of tar, but what they don't get is 1 or 2 joints will suffice a day so that 10 cigarettes. My mother who has been smoking cigarettes for 30 or so years smokes a pack and a half of smokes a day. Thats 38 smokes or 7.6 joints. On the most hardcore pot days for me I'll smoke only 10 joints between 2-4 people. Thats 5-2.5 joints to myself. So even though that statistic is shocking, the statistic that a regular smoker smokes 38 smokes a day. I kinda forgot my point for this but if anything tobacco should be illegal.
Another point salvia a drug that is legal in most states and all of Canada makes you hallucination with no control over your body at 30x. Stores sell up 100x. You smoke a whole bowl to yourself and have a 15 minute high. With the chances of a bad trip high and 5-15 minutes of no control I find this drug very unpredictable and dangerous and if this is legal and pot which makes you happy and relaxed is illegal it's a insult to governments intelligence
Also like burning anything it releases oxides and cancer causing agents but not nearly as many as the additives of tobacco

:P Just like to point out, Yes its used in many cough syrups.
Opium is basically the extract of the actual plant called Papaver Somniferum, which is a poppy plant. The opium is further extracted into Morphine, Codiene and I think 2-3 other powerful drugs. Morphine is the main active ingredient and is EXTREMELY addictive, this is what is used in most cough syrups, nasal drops/cold medicine, even in some cancer medicines (mostly having to do with bladder problems). Some common everyday medicines containing opiates: Tylenol, Motrin, Advil and some more that may surprise you :P

Actually, it goes a bit something like this:
Codeine, an opioid (a weak one, but an opioid nonetheless, not to be toyed with) is in cough syrup in
REALLY, REALLY small quantities. However, in Canada (and the UK I think) codeine is in some over the counter painkillers, about 8mg to every 300mg of acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
Bottom line?
Don't, don't, DON'T (for the love of God), eat advil to get high… it wont work, the ibuprofen / acetaminophen / aspirin will work your liver over before the codeine kicks in.

What percentage of people that use Marijuana are using it to treat an otherwise untreatable disease? Roughly zero.
What percentage of people that hype the use of hemp for fiber and biofuels actually use it for fiber or biofuels? Roughly zero.
Making those arguments are like a kid telling their parents they need a new $500,000 supercomputer because high powered computers can be used by scientists to do global warming or cancer research, even though they're only going to use it to surf the internet and play Runescape.
And for those saying "Look how awesome I am, it doesn't hurt me at all," that sort of anecdotal evidence is meaningless. That's why doctors and scientists do epidemiological research on entire populations, to try to eliminate the biases and unique responses that individuals might have. Those are the types of studies that I posted earlier. There's a big difference between saying "It doesn't hurt me" and saying "It won't hurt you."
Look at Obama. He was a big pothead. He used cocaine. He describes it as 'wasting his life'. Do you think he wants his kids to 'waste their life' on drugs? I think most parents have this same feeling. Now that they're older, they don't want their kids to make the same mistakes they did. They have had the time to see the long term consequences of their choices. I listed some of those long term consequences from a scientific study earlier. Of course, every new generation of kids always "knows better". That's to be expected. But when you consider that marijuana use is highest among young people, and drops off in every generation as they get older, there has to be a reason for it. And it can't be because marijuana is making such a positive impact on their lives.

So basically: "Why use marijuana when you could use OTC/prescription antidepressants and sleeping pills?" Those drugs are the devil. They fuck you up big time. Massive withdrawals, big changes in personality (turns you into a "robot") and hell on your body. Whereas, marijuana deals with them all and you have a great time taking it with next to no negative effects on your body. And what about the cancer patients who cant take anti-nausea medicine because they throw it up before it takes affect, and smoke weed instead? That would classify as untreatable in that situation.

Because its currently illegal to do so? And growing hemp (not marijuana) on a small scale to make a biofuel to run your car is highly expensive? You may as well say "how many people who want to use an alternative energy source like geothermal actually have their own geothermal power plant to power their house". Of course its roughly 0, heard of economy of scale?

I fail to see the connection. Saying it'd be good to use biofuels and not using them due to the above reasons is a LOT different to someone wanting a supercomputer to play runescape, regardless of what they say they want it for.

If you're gonna say "look at obama he said its bad" then I'll say "look at all the thousands of musicians and artists like the beatles, pink floyd etc who say it greatly helped them achieve big things". Just as if not more than valid. And nah, the decline in use isnt because of parents not wanting kids to make the same "mistakes" as them, its because of the war on drugs and the massive amount of bs propaganda thats rolled into everyones houses via TV and radio that idiots actually believe. Wait, youre saying that marijuana use declines each generation? Yeah, I'm sure the people in the 30's and 40's smoked more than their kids did in the 60's.

From reading that ABC article it looks like the smokers were high when they did the test. That stuff's already been proven when they're high and is expected by most smokers. After all, you wouldn't get high to help stay focused on something (unless you have a medical condition that would otherwise hinder it) just like you wouldn't take caffeine to fall asleep.
"Alcohol can be healthy, even though they just proved it isnt."
Right….
It's true, but only if you drink 1 or 2 drinks per day, no more.
From: http://www.drinkingandyou.com/site/us/moder.htm
In middle-aged and older adults, a daily intake of one to two alcoholic beverages per day is associated with the lowest all-cause mortality. More specifically, compared to non-drinkers, adults who consume one to two alcoholic beverages a day appear to have a lower risk of coronary heart disease.
Too much of anything is bad for you. I can't think of anything right now that wouldn't suck if you had too much of it.
Also, about long-term conditions involving illegal drugs overall. MDMA (ecstasy) was for years thought to decrease dopamine levals which would lead to something similar to Parkinson's disease (as dopamine is responsable for a fair bit of muscle movement). Turns out 20 years later (it was illegal to experiment with it previously) it was proven to actually slightly increase dopamine levels after prolonged somewhat mild use (you can only take so many before you stop feeling any different so not many people abuse it since it's pointless). In the original experiment that the government cited to make it a Schedule I drug, it turned out that they were actually suffocating the monkeys so that while they got the MDMA, they weren't getting any oxygen. Obviously this would lead to a whole pile of bad "side effects".
Edit: There are still a ton of drugs that should be illegal and stay illegal of course though, PCP and Meth for example

Well, here's my take on the whole thing. I think that if you tell yourself weed is absolutely harmless and there are no negative side effects whatsoever, you're lying to yourself. There are toxins inside of weed similar to cigarettes, and these can lead to lung cancer. Is it as bad as snorting lines of meth and crack all day? Of course not. But there is still some damage done, although I admit in the grand scheme of things it's probably not going to cause too much damage.
But the thing about making it legal is this. In the United States originally people were given the right to go out and buy whatever drugs they wanted, which lead to the "snake oil" type stuff containing heroin, cocaine, morphine, etc. which caused a lot of damage to people. So through the FDA and other measures, we decided to regulate drugs and make them off-limits to people.
It's not really the point that marajuana isn't very harmful to people, but rather that it's a drug and that as a country we decided that drugs for non-medical purposes aren't going to be allowed. Now you may argue that tobacco and alcohol are both drugs, and you're right. But the thing is that alcohol (at least in the United States) was tried to be made illegal, and probably would be if it wasn't for the HUGE mess and disaster of Prohibition. As far as tobacco, IMO it's on its way out. (again in the U.S., don't know about other places) We're starting to ban it in all public places, and I wouldn't be overly surprised if someday it was illegal altogether.

There's actually no link between marijuana and cancer, in fact theres evidence that it helps prevent cancer by killing mutated cells or slowing down their rate of splitting or something (cant rememeber what but it definately helps prevent cancer)
If the reason for illegalising all those drugs was given as "protecting" the community then its a lie. If they wanted to protect the community they would of regulated them by doing what they do with alcohol atm, which is commercially produce it and let liscensed people sell it to ensure that its good quality.
Tobacco and alcohol have no medicinal properties. Weed does. Also, I'd bet more people are smoking weed in the USA right now than the amount of people who made alcohol on the black market when it was prohibitioned in the past. It's just no ones going and killing themselves from smoking the wrong thing, like what happened when people would drink methanol and go blind - so no one hears about it as a mess. The war on drugs is stupid, and fails. >50% of Americans have tried marijuana.

I heard somewhere that in the states every law against drugs was based on racism is this true? Also i don't think weed does harm i smoked every day before school freshman year of highschool helps me stay focused in class infact the begining of this years school semester i was doing better when i was high i quit coming to school high and i went down in my academic skills.
From: N1ke!
Kinda good arguments there..
I just got a question tho,
If Weed was legal more people would start smoking it, which means more deaths.
also, The whole wide world can't be high - That just end in more deaths.
There has never been a single death recorded linked to marijuna.
From: tazzin44
i agree that it does harm the lungs but not from the weed its from the carbon emissions from the burning of the weed, use a vaporisor problems solved :D
Yes problem solved people using a vaporizor also gets you higher.

cannabis can act as a gateway drug.
people try cannabis, everything seems OK, so they think its alright to try some harder stuff.
Bull shit if it's a gateway drug i would of already tried cocaine, heroin, crack or any of those hardcore drugs. People make the choice to try them they don't get forced to by smoking marijuna.

Weird i've heard that when you smoke it you pass out before you can overdose maybe from eating it but i doubt you will eat nearly a 100 grams worth of weed and if you do and you survive youll be high as fuck but that will be a lot of money gone.

Marijuana is NOT addictive. Marijuana is NOT as harmful as tobacco, or even liquor. Even tho, anything you smoke will do minimal damage. But it is WAY LESS than tobacco.
Yearly deaths from tobacco: 440,000 (Centers for Disease Control)
Yearly Alcohol-Related Deaths: 85,000 (Journal of the American Medical Association)
Yearly Deaths due to Poor Diet & Inactivity: 400,000 (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services)
Yearly Deaths cause by Marijuana: 0 (U.S. Drug Abuse Warning Network)
And you can NOT over dose on Marijuana like you can all of those other illegal drugs, and legal ones too.
A Cocaine overdose can be as little as 25mg(about a pinch)
A Heroin overdose can be as little as 80mg(weight of half a peanut)
That also includes and is not limited to Crystal Meth, LSD, and PCP.
Marijuana, if taxed would bring up even more revenue than Oil. It would be the number 1 product for tax revenue.
As you could see it would be roughly a 4 billion dollar industry. Plus you could control it, and make laws similar to those of liquor or tobacco. But those products should be illegal, they cause more deaths than marijuana. Plus Marijuana has been used all as a healing drug all around.
Remember our federal government reserves schedule 1 for the most toxic, illegal drugs.
One would think that with these substances and overdose is easy to prepare. That's why this last one
I think shouldn't be in here. Marijuana.
For a Marijuana overdose you would need to prepare over 1500 lbs. of Marijuana and serve it smoked in under 15 minutes.
Haha! Now that would be a fattie ;). In fact, you would have to eat 250,000 pot brownies to overdose.
Never mind the overdose, that would be murder on the thighs :P.Now with portions that size Marijuana just doesen't seem as dangerous as the other schedule 1 drugs. But i'm sure they have a reason.

The main argument against weed is the health issues.
It is simple to counter it.
I believe weed was meant to be eaten.
It's actually quite healthy for you, and you still get high.
If you prefer smoking it still, you can use a vaporizer, which is far more healthy than things such as bongs and pipes because it doesn't actually burn the marijuana.
what do you guys say to the claim that cannabis can act as a gateway drug?
It is true that it could be a gateway to other more harmful drugs.
But the large majority of the time this is because of it being illegal in the first place.
Getting drug tested is very common.
When your job says you can't smoke weed, you find another drug.
Things such as pills are also much easier to hide and get away with doing.
No smell, tests won't prove them, and they are gone once you pop them.
Legalize marijuana and this will be much less of a problem.
Honestly I don't know whether its harmful or not, all I know is that it costs too much! And I like my money more than a small amount of good feeling..
I could get myself high everyday for a week if I just buy a blunt ($5)
If you know how to do it right.

I am weed smoker but never go to school high, I do admit that I think I would get better grades if I did because I feel more focused whilst high doing other tasks outside of school such as scripting.
I've heard that you have to eat or smoke your body weight in cannabis to overdose but this is impossible in my opinion.
I agree slightly that it could be a gateway drug as dealers could ask if you wanted other things, your weed smoking friends start taking other things then you may follow (that is peer pressure though) and when the 'buzz' doesn't quite seem good enough then you might want to take something else. In my opinion if you start taking 'harder' drugs then you are stupid for doing so.
It's all about being smarter than drug! If you know what happens such as panic attacks, paranoia and vomitting then you'll be OK but if you don't then it can be very scary and dangerous.
The only bad problem I can see is the long-term affects which it has paranoia but then again if you know this is going to happen then it doesn't affect you.
Pity I wasn't high writing this otherwise I probably wrote a few pages ;-)

If it wasn't lumped together with the other dangerous drugs (speed, coke, heroin etc) then it wouldn't be a gateway drug. From birth people are told all their lives how bad drugs, including weed, are, then they try weed and say "Hey this isn't bad, maybe coke is good as well". Some people say it leads to being in a situation which makes getting the harder drugs easier, like being at your dealers house for instance, but it's not really a valid arguement as if it wasn't illegal then people wouldnt have to be in that situation. Basically "illegalise marijuana because it is a gateway drug because it is illegalised because it is a gateway drug…"
If it wasn't for the social and legal status of marijuana, it wouldn't be seen as a gateway drug. You don't hear people calling alcohol a gateway drug, yet it's the most common recreational drug most people use first.

I know people who have smoked it for years and they didn't get the buzz anymore so tried other stuff such as crack. This is to do with self control but I still think it should be legalised because in Amsterdam they have less people addicted to harder drugs than in England because they have legalised cannabis.
The government would make plenty of $$$ from taxxing it if they did and lots more people would do it instead of drinking all the time (smoking good weed is healthier than drinking lots).
This debate is slightly biased as we're are more intelligent than some weed smokers, those are the ones who try harder drugs etc. I myself have tried coke, it wouldn't recommend it though as it put me on the biggest down of my life, I still regret trying it everyday and hope I never touch anything other than good old weed ever again.

from what i understand of this post, you're saying it IS a gateway drug, but its only like that because of its illigality and social attitudes.
you imply that it would need to to make it legal, but you'd also need to change peoples attitudes.
you do realise that changing peoples attitudes takes a very long time.
feminism has been trying to change attitudes for 100+ years, yet sexism still exists.
slavery was abolished 200 years ago, and only today do black people have some questionable equality.
for any government to attempt this, the benefits would need to far outweigh the costs.
so tell me, what are the benefits

Yeah basically.
I'm not sure if Feminism and Racism can be compared to marijuana prohibition. Feminism and racism are based on a deep profound irrational hatred for people of a certain sex or race, whereas people's opinions on prohibition are based on what they've seen, heard and experienced. And with the war on drugs and the massive amount of propaganda it's hardly suprising that alot of people are agaisnt it, because governments don't lie to their people right?
But a recent poll shows 41% of Americans support marijuana legalisation while 8% are undecided compared with only 27% in 1979 (
source) - so much of the changing of attitudes is already done. But it's not as though the majority get the vote here on a federal level, its the people in parliament who have to get convinced, so like you said there has to be some compelling benefits.
I'll list a few economical benefits:
- Potential for revenue. It would be any countries largest export and cash-cow if they decided to farm hemp. There was a time when it was illegal in america to
not grow hemp as the material and cash was needed for a war effort or something. As stated by Kryptic above, its a $4-billion industry.
- Less innocent people being locked in prisons. You can go to jail for 20 years for having a gram of marijuana in some states in the US. America's prisons are full of people in there due to marijuana related offences, not only is it immoral but its wasting $1.2 billion of taxpayers money a year. (
source)
- All the jobs that would be created due to the reborn hemp industry.
So people are in prison who shouldn't be (possesion of weed? cmon….), which is costing $1.2billion a year. By not harvesting hemp and taxing legal marijuana sales like they do in Amsterdam it's another $4billion cost a year. So thats $5.2billion a year that could be spent towards better things such as new schools, hospitals, etc.
Thats just the financial side of it, not the ethical, political, or social - if everyone was smoking weed each weekend at parties instead of binge drinking I guarantee the world would be a better, more peaceful place…. Another thing is the principle of the matter - why should the government be able to control what I choose to do with myself and my own body if it doesnt harm anyone? That's not freedom.

What percentage of people that use Marijuana are using it to treat an otherwise untreatable disease? Roughly zero.
What percentage of people that hype the use of hemp for fiber and biofuels actually use it for fiber or biofuels? Roughly zero.
Quite obviously because these things are illegal.
Just growing the plant, even for non smoking purposes, doesn't happen right now because it is illegal.
Legalize it and it will.

ok ive never blazed but ive talked about it with friends who do, and acording to them some people can be into it for there entire lives and there are no harmful effects, though i talked to a chick once who said her brother was compleatly fucked up in the head cause he blazed HEAVILY for like 2 years. now hes all weird and crazy. so i think its all the "everything in moderation" just like anything it can fuck you up if you take to much. Though i do know that some people have an "addictive personality" and that appairently is all genetic. if your parents were alchohalics or addicted to something then you might not want to ever drink or smoke or anything. And if you do then thats your own fault not the substance's faut.
that being said, weather or not its bad for you, Canada needs to change its laws on weed. Your aloud to do anything you want except trafic it.. so pretty much the only way to get weed is to buy it from criminals. Now i donno who in the canadian government came up with this shit but dont you all see a problem with that? All those Canadian dollors are being put in the pockets of gangsters and pimps and drug dealers, and the governments laws are supporting it. so in my mind the evil of gangsters running around killing people outweighs the evil of a few kids going out and getting high. especualy when they would do it anyway cause finding someone who will sell weed is easyer than beer or ciggies for someone who is underage.

http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/pubs/scheduling.htmlFrom Wikipedia:
Required findings for drugs to be placed in this schedule: [1]
- The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
- The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
- There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.
It's been schedule I for quite awhile (unless of course you don't live in the US). Illegalness or not, it certainly shouldn't be schedule I. PCP is schedule II, but that's certainly more harmful :<
Schedule II:
(A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse. (B) The drug or other substance has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States or a currently accepted medical use with severe restrictions.
(C) Abuse of the drug or other substances may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence." [10]
This group includes Oxycodone, Codine, Codeine, Injected Amphetemines (including Meth), and Morphine. Most of these are
extremely addictive painkillers, except for Meth which you probably know is still very addictive itself.
Pot is not addictive, it's
very hard to abuse (you'd have to inject yourself with lots of THC to kill yourself, it'd be impossible to smoke enough), and has many many medical uses for many many kinds of dideases and illnesses.
Take a look at Schedule V:
(A) The drug or other substance has a low potential for abuse relative to the drugs or other substances in schedule IV.
(B) The drug or other substance has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
(C) Abuse of the drug or other substance may lead to limited physical dependence or psychological dependence relative to the drugs or other substances in schedule IV." [13]
Schedule V substances are only available for a medical purpose.
When you think about it, it doesn't even fit here. Cough syrup with small amounts of codeine belongs in this group, but pot doesn't fit into requirement C (or A since it's being compared to Schedule IV drugs)

Lol, someone who is not me knows a coke dealer, nicest guy in the world. As long as your not in a big gang city, you'll have nice dealers usually.
I know plenty of drug dealers, my main one is a pretty nice guy. Also my friend who has started dealing cocaine is also very nice. Drug dealers only turn nasty if you piss them off, that is the same for many people though.

I'll let those links do the talking for me. Other then secondhand smoke from an Avenged Sevenfold concert I've never gotten high, and I don't plan to any time soon.
That first link states that "users have difficulty in thinking and problem-solving", I was discussing this with my friends the other day and we came up the conclusion that the only reason you got confused is because you think of so many things at once. A simple question which you would answer "yes" to when not high becomes a question which you analyze each part which affects your answer (almost a new level of thinking) but if you can control all these thoughts then you can do better than when not high. For example, whilst being high walking home I coded a full script in my head so that once I entered my house I knew exactly what to type.
Anyone else have similar experiences?

I'm really bemused that you even care if weed is harmful or not. I'd be happy if people just thought I was stoned. I mean, its just such a low level drug in comparison to almost everything else. 6 grams of mushrooms makes weed look like vitamin c.

YEAAH. They are some possible causes. I can get a swollen pancreas from taking a few paracetomol pills but it does not mean I will (I just read the sheet thinggy in the box to find that out :P)
You CANNOT trust those studies. Why? Control group. EVERY ONE HAS A DIFFERENT REACTION to Cannabis, same as anything.
First off,
Marijuana contains known toxins and cancer-causing chemicals which are stored in fat cells for as long as several months
Finding chemicals causing cancer in marijuana is NOT a reaction.
And pardon my French, but the "control group" theory you have about Narconon is bullshit. Saying everyone has a different reaction to Cannabis is like saying everyone has a different reaction to Heroin, Cocaine, or Ecstasy. It's true that people have different reactions to drugs, but there are overall effects of the drugs that effect people on a widespread basis.
Besides, Narconon is a NON PROFIT organization, they wouldn't create bullshit control groups to put drugs in a bad light.
You can think what you want about drugs, and you can go right ahead ingesting Marijuana, or any other drug, into your system. It's your body, and you alone have the authority to determine what happens to it.

I forgot where I read it from, but weed has been proven to do less damage then smoking
Well, harm is sort of relative. No physical harm afaik (or well, it's all shitty propaganda, hippies vs anti-drug people) so don't know and don't care who to listen to, but if you get caught for it you'll get a criminal record (atleast here, i'd assume about everywhere else too), and gl applying for a job with that, as atleast here most decent places will check it incase the person is some rehabilitated serial killer or a drug addict etc..
And that "MAKE IT LEGAL BAWWW" stuff is just silly. I'm sure it'll be legalized because a bunch of teenagers whine about it on internet (a big part of which just going with the flow and haven't ever even seen weed, but it's cool to say you smoke it) without really doing anything about it, and anyone with any power starting some campaign about legalizing it is will just commit a political suicide. No offense to anyone.

Weed is definitely NOT harmful. Most Over-The-Counter Medicines are way more dangerous than weed.
And Taken at higher doses, can lead to a horrible Overdose, Even Fatality.
Weed, no matter how much you Smoke/Eat/ect. Can NOT and won't ever lead to a death by Overdose ect.
Thanks.
Well what i think, that Weed should be legal because some people when they drink will come very agrressive and weed just relaxes your mind :)

I've been smoking for 2 years now and I know for a fact that it has not effected me. I have all A's in high school and all of the "long term symptoms" have
never occurred for me.
By the way, if you are worried about weed hurting your lungs I suggest using a vaporizer. Vaporizers burn only THC crystals and nothing else and are the #1 way to get you the highest. This allows you to use less weed and spend less. The only downside about vaporizers is that they cost around 500$. I have one and it was DEFINITELY worth the money.
If you are interested in buying a vaporizer, I highly recommend using the Volcano Vaporizer. You can buy it by clicking
here. They cost 539$ but are totally worth the money.

THE TRUTH :norris:
http://www.marijuana-addiction.net/m...de-effects.htm
Marijuana side effects come from smoking or consuming the drug and marijuana side effects influence the mind and body of the user. Marijuana side effects can be as seemingly innocent as an increased appetite to as life threatening as lung cancer. Increased likelihood for accidents is also one of the marijuana side effects. Studies show that 6 to 11 percent of fatal accidents are contributed to by marijuana side effects. Other external marijuana side effects include legal problems, work and financial problems and troubles at home.
Marijuana is most often smoked but can be eaten or steeped in tea to drink. Most over-doses occur actually when the drug is eaten because it is easier to consume a large dose all at once. Marijuana side effects from an overdose include toxic psychosis including hallucinations, delusions and a loss of self-identification. When smoked, marijuana is rolled up into a cigarette called a joint or smoked in a pipe or water pipe called a bong. Marijuana has many street names like pot, hash, chronic and there are many paraphernalia available to smoke it.
Over 11 million people smoked marijuana last month. Many may not have severe marijuana side effects from taking the drug but many people will. Marijuana side effects include physical problems like breathing difficulties and deteriorating physical abilities. Despite a popular belief, marijuana side effects speed up the heart, blood and breathing rate. The body is taxed more and this speeds up the aging process just like methamphetamines do. The marijuana side effects from this extra exertion on the body include a higher risk for lung cancer, heart attacks and strokes.
Marijuana side effects also wreak havoc on the brain when the drug is used habitually. The natural chemical balance of the brain is disrupted affecting the pleasure centers and regulatory systems. The ability to learn, remember and adapt quickly to changes is impaired by marijuana use. Depression often occurs with marijuana usage, which feeds into the cycle of more drug use to treat the pain created by drug use. This cycle of addiction is very powerful and users soon find that they cannot stop using the drug even if they want to.
Marijuana addiction is a progressive disease and marijuana side effects include withdrawal and obsessive thought with the drug when it is not made available. Addiction is identified as a compulsive, uncontrollable craving for the drug even with pending negative consequences. Often users will attempt to stop smoking marijuana for an important event such as a job interview or court hearing and find themselves using very close or just before the event. This act goes beyond a flexing of willpower. This describes being enveloped by a disease that has taken control and needs to be treated.
Spencer Recovery Centers has been successfully treating the disease of marijuana addiction for many years. Nationwide, intake for marijuana addiction has doubled for drug rehabilitation facilities. Many people are realizing that marijuana side effects are not to be taken lightly and need to be addressed by professionals.
Spencer Recovery Centers brings together the best treatments of the medical community and the therapeutic sciences. Our professional staff and facilities have treated thousands of clients suffering from the effects of marijuana addiction. While you can "overdose" on marijuana, you always will fall asleep before you get anywhere dangerous, and even this is nowhere close to the LD50.

No there is no physical addiction, but long term use damages anyone.
Contrary to the belief that there is no physical addiction, there is a mental addiction which may even be worse than a physical one seeing as schizophrenia, bipolar, psychosis, and even hallucinations (all of which I have experienced first hand from this illicit and illegal substance)
I will say this, if you still want to smoke without damaging your body try to only smoke the best weed you can find out of a bong or vaporizer as least often as possible i.e. 1-3 times monthly or less.
But lets underlay the real question being asked here, is weed harmful or not harmful and the true answer is YES it is harmful. Simply put you can not say weed is not harmful, because to be honest it is anyone that says it isn't is being self justified to feed a habit. I will admit the drugs side affects and potency are quite exaggerated.
God I'm going to miss my smoking days.

Drug induced bipolar, and withdrawals from weed can be pretty miserable and include racing thoughts, temporary schizophrenia, psychosis ect…
The correlation between them is the inbalances the drug causes in the brain.
People that already have these mental illnesses, idk about that that's a different story. I'm talking about people who were problem free until they were introduced to pot.

If marijuana was legal it might solve a lot of problems but the real question being asked is whether or not this stuff is harmful, and to be simply put, yes it is.
Cigarettes are the most retarded thing ever in my opinion, addictive cancer on a stick.

it does kill brain cells,
Says who?
the carcinogens from smoke are bad for you
No one says they are not bad for you, but evidence from studies involving marijuana and if it causes lung cancer are inconclusive to if marijuana does cause cancer, even with all the carcinogens. It is speculated that THC and other cannabinoids that stop or slow down any cancer
and anyone that does know anything about long term smoking says it is bad for you.
We all know smoking is bad for you, what with the hot smoke and what not but I think you should do some research on how it is bad.
So I don't know how you can knock off everything you don't want to hear and reply with 'do some fucking research' that to me is the most ignorant thing I've read on this entire thread or board in a long time.
No, that is not ignorant. Ignorant is what you are. You refuse to accept anything from peer-reviewed studies and instead talk about how you experience deadly irreversible brain chemical imbalances and how you suffer from bipolar, schizophrenia and psychosis. Has a doctor or scientist ever seen you before you started smoking? Has one ever seen you after you stopped smoking? Did they do a study on you? Did they do a study on your friends? No, they did not.

Trust me, I know all about the 'good-side' of weed. I used to be a habitual user probably like yourself.
Supposed good side
It slows/cures cancer
It doesn't cause cancer
It is harmless
Supposed bad side
It can lead to psychosis, bipolar, schizophrenia
Damage your brain after long term regular usage
Kills brain cells
Carcinogens from smoke
Weakens immunity system
Ultimately there is no clear evidence pointing in either direction. So I guess we're all going to make up our own damn minds on this one.
Personally, I've had some good times doing the drug, and I've seen and experienced some fucked up shit happen.
Probably my final word on this topic.

I have no idea what the fuck you are trying to do, but you just posted what I believe three links that are pro-marijuana. One is reviewing a strain of weed (and its street bought, so that person really has no idea what strain that weed is but that is largely irrelevant). One is a obvious biased source against the government however to be fair I never watched the video and only read the comments and what I got from those was that currently illicit substances should be legal (Or just weed in peculiar?). The third link is wikipedia and under health issues it states what we were flipping trying to tell you, sure there is more ammonia and more 'tar'. We know this already, but if you did not stop reading at that and continued reading it continues on to say despite that there has been
no evidence that marijuana causes cancer. And it even goes on to say that there is no correlation between mental illnesses and the consumption of marijuana.
And the first link is actually on your side, but it doesn't hold any actual reputable sources.

Cannabis causes scitzophrenia (how ever it is spelled), depression and mental-addiction. The argument "weed doesn't cause addiction" is total bulldoodoo. Anything that stimulates your brain and makes you feel good causes addiction, including masturbating and playing computergames. The chronical (??) dangers of weed might not be as bad as cigarettes (lung cancer, and almost certain asphyxiation when old) but the spontanious danges such as "flying to the moon from the roof of a tower-block" and "diving to the atlantis with everlasting breath" are just as serious problems.
Yes, alcohol has pretty much the same effect. Why should it be allowed? Because most people use alchol as a spice, and do not drink themselves drunk. With weed you are either high or sober, you can't just take a couple of hits from the bong just to taste it, because weed doesn't work that way.
As well you could say "salvia is allowed in most states, why not LSD?"
Comparing to cigarettes is just stupid because smoking cigarettes can only harm yourself, but when you're high you can hurt someone else too. Please don't say "people around you have to breath smoke", cause then you can just take a couple of steps away from them.
And cannabis is already legal as a medicine in most countries. And even if it weren't, I'm sure you can have a special permission for it if it's a matter of life and death.
ADDITION: If you say "taxing cannabis would raise the economics!", you've been f*ed in the ass by tehh goverment.
USAs militarys annual budjet is around 1 trillion dollars (that's 1 000 000 000 000$). If they gave away a destryer boat or two, they'd save more money than weedtaxes would ever pay.
ADDITION: In finnish Wikipedia there was a line that says something like "No researches have proven cannabis to cause long term psychical illness" and guess what was the source? Thadaa:
Working to reform marijuana laws! And this, ofcourse, is not a biased source at all.
Don't blindly believe in Wikipedia: check the small upindex numbers (sources)

It's just that the problem is there's one study that was done I believe in the 60s, and several "studies" that just cite that and regurgitate the statistics, that showed that marijuana was physically harmful.
Pretty much every other study is done by people who want to disprove that one study, there really aren't "middle ground" people in this debate.
I believe that people should be able to choose for themselves. My birth dad was addicted to cigarettes from the age of 12. If it wasn't for that and alcohol, my parents would still together (although if it wasn't for alcohol, I wouldn't have been born so.. -.-).
PCP, meth, and heroine are the only widely used drugs that probably should stay illegal, maybe cocaine too. But even meth isn't as bad as people make it sound.
Edit: I also don't do drugs either, tripping balls just doesn't sound like it would be that fun for me :p. I do believe people should have freedoms though, and it's up to them to decide how they want to have fun so long as it doesn't hurt other people.
Capricorn

I was just going to quote to Widget and say regardless of how dangerous any substance is people should have the right to choose to or not to do that substance. If someone wants to go IV a shit load of heroin all day they can go ahead - as long as they do it in a safe place, throw away their needles properly and do not infringe on the way I live my life.
And yeah I agree, methamphetamine is blown way out of proportion. Sure it is addictive, sure it does have some bad effects. But just like every drug before it is being scapegoated to fuel the war on drugs. It happened with marijuana, it happened with MDMA and now its methamphetamine. After watching a couple of Dog the Bounty Hunters and all the people who are addicted to meth get caught and you have a look at them, most of them do not look like bad people. I bet there are lots of people that would love to quit but a lot of governments would rather hide the problem under the carpet then actually fix the problem.
And what really bothers me the most is when lots of people are for legalizing marijuana right now (In Canada in my generation) but when you even mention how cocaine they look at you strangely, and then when you mention meth they think your a nut. The sad thing is WHO's report on cocaine was leaked 'recently' and it basically concluded that occasional recreational cocaine use has less health effects then alcohol.
In all participating countries, health problems from the use of legal substances, particularly alcohol
and tobacco, are greater than health problems from cocaine use. Also, in many countries, chronic
problems related to poverty, hunger, infectious diseases, war and social disorder overshadow any
health problems related to cocaine use. Most participating countries agree that occasional or
experimental cocaine use does not typically lead to severe or even minor physical or social problems.
http://secure.wikileaks.org/wiki/World_Health_Organization_global_Cocaine_Project_Study_suppressed_by_the_United_States_for_13_years%2C_1995Reading the study done by WHO made me lose track of where I was bringing this response, ahh another time I suppose.

I'm not saying that marijuana isn't bad for you, but not anywhere near as bad as cigs and alcohol, and should be classified with those instead of with drugs like coke and heroin. you can't overdose from it, and you can only get cancer if you smoke it like 10 times a day everyday… besides that, several studies show it makes you smarter "This study refutes most of the prohibitionist propaganda about youth and cannabis use. That the "light users" who toked five joints per week actually saw an increase in IQ scores indicates that cannabis may have enhancing effects on learning and comprehension."

Top post mate I actually lol'd, I would be extremely interested to see a peer-reviewed study (a proper source) on these which you claim you have, in fact if you do the google search you'll see that both of what you just said are completely false. What Pyro should of said is "weed fucks some people", the people who are already predispositioned to get these mental illnesses that you're claiming are side effects/withdrawals (LOL)
If youre treating anecdotal evidence as proper evidence which you seem to be doing, I've smoked daily for a year and a half, last year was my last year of high school and I got in the top 6% of my state and got into the country's best uni. I've met people who have been smoking for 40 years+, and yeah weed can fry you a bit but its all recoverable - stop smoking for a couple of weeks and you wont have short term memory loss, you will be able to function at your full capacity again. So, er…..
Do some fucking research
I suppose I hold very mixed views on Cannabis..
I do think the majority of things you are told, not only about Cannabis but pretty much every other drug is utter bollocks, or backed with flawed studies etc.
But that doesn't mean I want to go out and get baked.
I've tried weed and I must say I really enjoyed the mellow high I achieved.
However I don't think the punishments that are in place in most countries for people smoking, or possession of it are necessary.
Here in the UK, you get caught with a bag, you get a slap on the wrists, weed confiscated and your details go on a database.
Caught again, 80 quid fine.
and then you go on to conviction, but the chances of conviction, are like next to none.
Generally I don't see why everyone is up in arm's about it all..

Make their "share" the police are making a pretty low yearly income especially if you compare it to 150k a year for a guy that does next to nothing to get weed or a gang that fuels their guns/ cars/ amo/ hoes with the illicit drug.
It's more like this: Gangs get a f*** load, Growers get a f*** load, Dealers get a f*** load, Sellers get f***ing high as shit, buyers get ripped (but have fun and waste money) the police get paid shitty (in comparison).
Weed shouldn't be legal, but the penalties are way to severe in the US.

Why do people only think about the harms cannabis does to oneself, and forget the things it does to other people? You may hurt people around you when you're high. I know weed doesn't make you as paranoid as heroine, for example, but still. A bad load can drive you crazy and make you kill someone.
Also if you allow drugs you help mafia. "Lets make a law that you can only buy weed from the apothecary!" That would just give even more boost to mafia drug farms and increase the amount of poisonous drugloads that are made sloppily, just to get the money fast.
There are no reasons why cannabis should be allowed, there are only reasons why other drugs like tobacco and alcohol should be illegal.

Eh? If you make it legal than pharmacies would sell it, and they'd only sell quality weed under penalty of law (assuming the government did this right). Not only do gangs and mafias/whatever lose a good portion of their funding, but everyone now has quality weed for less than they were paying before (since there's no more border jumping and so many middlemen) and there's proper competition between drugstores that doesn't involve territory or guns.

Mafia? THE MAFIA? They [people who produce drugs] can't compete with big companies producing chemicals or marijuana. Making the manufacture of drugs legal would cause every existing company that has infrastructure to produce drugs to jump into the game. This would cause competition and lower the prices. And none of those companies would create bad products because no company wants a bad reputation.

I think you should stop grasping at that substances are detrimental to health and instead grasp at the freedom part. Tylenol is notoriously toxic to the liver but its still being sold in every drug mart.
While generally safe for human use at recommended doses, acute overdoses (above 1000 mg per single dose and above 4000 mg per day for adults, above 2000 mg per day if drinking alcohol[2]) of paracetamol can cause potentially fatal liver damage and, in rare individuals, a normal dose can do the same; the risk is heightened by alcohol consumption. Paracetamol toxicity is the foremost cause of acute liver failure in the Western world, and accounts for most drug overdoses in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Nope.
The CIA and other agencies *TESTED* LSD and MDMA/MDA/MDE. They had no hand in making almost all, if any drugs.
MDMA was first synthesized in the 1920's or 30's, I forget. It was then "rediscovered" by Sasha Shulgen (in the 70s should expect) who, with the aid of a handful of psychologists made MDMA very, very, popular in therapy. This was due to its amazing therapeutic potential. A psychologist commented that "6 months of therapy could be completed in one session".
As for LSD, well thats a much more sinister story. In 1938 Albert Hoffman (who lived to be 102, and was touring until six months before he died) invented LSD-25. The CIA tested its potential for mind control (especially making people kill others while under hypnosis), and as a truth serum. They kidnapped civilians and did testing on them without their knowledge. It was also a great joke amongst the agents working on LSD to dose each other on the sly. This, and much more is all very well documented under

The government (the UN) actually made XTC globally illegal and you can get a count of man slaughter for every two in your possesion. LSD is also an illegal drug, both drugs which were made in labs by scientists (not the government)

Let me tell you about four cousins of mine. They had all been adopted as young children.
The oldest two had been into drugs and in and out of jail many times. The oldest has been a druggie for a long time, and is totally worthless as a human being. The next oldest was shot and killed by police during a routine traffic stop about 3 years ago, because his girlfriend in the car had a drug related warrant out for her arrest and he pulled a gun on the cops. Stupid.
The 3rd and 4th were girls. They both lived pretty clean lives. They got married, had kids, went to church regularly.
Apparently sometime about 2 years ago the youngest girl had begun experimenting with marijuana and liked it. Her oldest druggie brother quickly educated her about drugs, and within a short period of time she was trying heroin and became an addict. She totally self-destructed. She was robbing her parents' house bare to pay for her drug habit. Her husband divorced her and got a restraining order against her to keep her from being a bad influence on her child. She was finally arrested and spent time in jail, just like her older brothers.
I saw her 3 months ago at my fathers' funeral, and she was totally despondent. I didn't talk to her, but my brother said she felt too guilty to live with herself. As she explained it, she had "everything" and ruined it all for drugs. I got a call last week, because her parents found her dead in their home from a heroin overdose. The funeral was on Friday. All started with curiosity about Marijuana.

Congratulations, you just proved that the oldest brother (who may have already been addicted to opiates) got the youngest girl who had a harmless curiosity to marijuana get caught up in addiction because her brother gave her biased facts.
It only made it worse that he was her brother, its hard to not trust a family member especially when it is on who is as close as a sibling.

This is one of the things that legalizing Marijuana hopes to solve though. The idea is that you wouldn't start doing Heroine because you drink alcohol, right? So why would you do it if Marijuana was legal but Heroine still wasn't? Part of the "Gateway Drug" theory revolves around that fact that people think Marijuana is just as harmful as harder drugs. If you clearly separate it from them then less people will want to go farther (of course, if someone's into drugs then they're into drugs). Personally, I think there are other drugs that should be legalized, such as Psilocybin and MDMA (MDMA would significantly benefit from this, since "Ecstacy" almost always has hard drugs with it to try to get people addicted, even though MDMA is almost harmless by itself [only unintended side effect is dehydration]).

And yes, it is.
Heres a study I do not have a cite for, but I will find one if I must.
The study went something like this: Researchers put a bunch of monkeys into a room. In the middle of the room was a tall pole. On top of the pole was a bunch of bananas. When the monkeys got hungry they began to climb the pole.
That's when the fire hoses came out.
Yep, the experimenters would knock the monkeys off the pole with jets of water before they reached the bananas.
Soon, the monkeys became trained; they learned they could never reach their goal. The bananas were off-limits and the monkeys finally stopped trying to get them. In fact, they began to beat the shit out of him if another monkey decided to have a go at the bananas.
Now for the really interesting part. Researchers took one trained monkey out of the room and replaced him with a new monkey, one who'd never been hosed off the pole. When the newbie monkey would spot the bananas and start up the pole, the trained monkeys would inevitably yank him down and smack him around a little. Soon, the new monkey would also start pulling his hirsute brethren off the pole.
One by one, the experimenters would replace a hose-trained monkey with a new one. Finally, the room contained only newbie monkeys – monkeys who'd never been sprayed with the fire hose, monkeys who didn't even know the hose punishment existed.
I'll give you one guess what they did.
You're right. These monkey-trained monkeys would keep pulling each other off the pole. They didn't know why they did it, they just did it. Every one of them wanted those bananas, but the hungry monkeys wouldn't allow each other to reach them.
So yes,

Let me tell you a story about millions of responsible adults all over the world, they all take many different types of recreational drugs, both legal and illegal (mainly illegal), responsibly and have a great time and live a better, happier, more peaceful life because of it (especially with psychadelics), and no one gets hurt or dies or gets aids or anything. Is it worth it? Yeah it is.

Eh? If you make it legal than pharmacies would sell it, and they'd only sell quality weed under penalty of law
Lol, almost 100% of the current drug growing is done by mafias and alike organisations. USA could not compete the prices. Apothecary prices would propably be atleast twice the streetprice, because the "legal weed" would be grown under controlled circumstances, which requires money. The weed that is selled in the streets is grown by some random poor jamaicans, and the quality is not even close to what is required to call it "safe".

Im sure you've experience this aswell.
Mafia? THE MAFIA? They [people who produce drugs] can't compete with big companies producing chemicals or marijuana.
a) Cannabis has been proven to cause panic attacks (whats the word -.-)

Grown under controlled circumstances? How does that require money? Ibuprofen is made under controlled circumstances and that only costs 8$ for a bottle of like 72. DXM is made under controlled circumstances and a bottle of Robitussin only costs around 8$. Weed is VERY cheap to grow, the only reason why it is expensive is because its ILLEGAL. If you grew your own you only end up paying dollars for a Oz. And pleeeeeeease, the 'mafia' can't compete with large industrial pharmaceutical companies. You think the gangs produce codeine? Morphine? Xanax? No they don't, because they can't compete with these large FACTORIES. They get prescriptions and sell those. I would like to see you produce a TON of Ibuprofen and be able to PROFIT by selling it for 11 cents a dose.

So you agree big companies are able to produce more chemicals faster and cheaper then illicit organizations? The simple truth is illicit organizations can not create substances as fast and as efficient as big companies and big factories. Either you are talking about marijuana or chemicals like LSD or MDMA, big factories owned by big companies are always going to be able to out produce illicit organizations.
If some simpleton can yield 12 Oz every 7 weeks and only pay maintenance of about 40$ in a 3 by 3 sq ft area then why can big companies not improve on that?
The Claw
2009-07-28 12:32:26
Of course the bigger companies can produce larger amounts of better quality drugs for cheaper. Its common sense, they can afford the big factories and fields and can buy chemicals in bulk which makes it much much cheaper. If drugs were legal, the precursor prices would go down heaps too, which would lead to bigger profits. This means much bigger returns for the company, as they are buying and selling in massive amounts.
Economy of scale.
Theres absolutely no reason why all drugs couldn't be mass produced in the same way as alcohol, tobacco, coffee, aspirin etc. Which would lead to much cheaper prices for the consumer as theres so much of it around easily available, the rival companies would be constantly undercutting each other. This would pretty much wipe out the people making drugs atm (unless its the government hurrrrr), as they wouldnt be able to compete with the prices - and who would want to set up a meeting with a shady dealer for some overpriced, probably impure/low quality drugs when they could just go down to the milk bar and buy them instead

1) People will always need to buy oil as long as we drive gasoline fueled cars. Saying people wouldn't buy oil because marijuana is legal makes no sense. Cigarettes possibly might take a hit, but people that smoke smoke. Just because marijuana is legal doesn't mean their going to stop. If anything possibly making smoking something legal for medical purposes might make smoking in general seem more "ok" in the public eye which could lead to more people trying cigarettes..thats just a thought though. Also probably wouldnt work that way until marijuana would be legal mostly everywhere.
2) Yes they can. Different breeds/hybrids can be patented by the people that develop them. Works that way with any kind of plant. They can also tax the sale of it which would be a lot of money for their pocket.
3) States are already starting to legalizing it, mine included, so Im not exactly sure whats your point here..

Since it is back to life
I would not legalize weed, my entire basis for this is why would you.
It is EASIER now, it is CHEAPER now, it would be nearly identical to how it is now anyway besides for the fact you won't get a ticket if you are caught with it. (New law, is tickets not actual arrests under 5 grams I believe)
Easier: I just call one guy he will deliver.
Cheaper: There are no "taxes" and it would be a "sin" tax (Look it up) much like cigarettes
—–
The only thing that will come out of weed being legalized that I consider to be a good thing is the production of hemp products again, there will be a RAPID increase in hemp based products which are generally cheaper than cotton products because it is easier to farm, far less water intensive, cheap because it doesn't require many herbicides, grows fast and almost uncontrollably, and to top it all of it is strong very very strong.

I use to smoke weed. And though it doesnt really do much to harm your body, and most people would consider it harmless, I would just like to say.. It messes with your mind. The brain was not meant to be altered by things like this.. Weed just fucks with your head, they way you think, the way you react to things.. especially after smoking it for years in a row. I recentally had to stop because I use to get so high so much and think about scary things, like solar flares from the sun destroying the earth at any second, just fucked up things like that.. Now its to the point, where i have to try and control what thoughts go through my head because if i let the wrong ones come through, i will have panic attacks and my whole body will go numb.. Weed isnt necessarily bad, especially if you have a lot of will power. But i just dont think we need to be smoking it. the brain is better off without it.

I think If you Smoke weed too young than it's highly likely to do something as your mind is still developing it's the same with alcohol as well.
If you Smoke it to often and in bad hygiene, it will have bad effects on your health.
The mental effects are sometimes brought on by too much smoking but usually subside after not 2 long after stopping sometimes not.
It increases your self awareness a lot and can make you paranoid or extra sensitive to people.
I think your brain is effected a lot if your a chronic smoker It's just the loss of certain chemicals I think since they are Down regulated from being to active, Pot can make some people very very lazy or some energetic it is odd.
But One thing about weed is that you don't need to smoke it, you can vaporize and inhale it or put it in food n eat it, which totally blocks out all of the bad effects on liver.
Alcohol and other drugs damage the liver severely weed won't and may keep you very healthy I'd believe also less addictive if eating it since it contains a lot of Nutrients and releases thc in the blood stream slower.
In a perfect uncorrupted world they would make Tobacco/Alcohol Completely Illegal and Legalize it.

seriously its not for everyone those who do it great those who dont prob dont for a good reason. great. myself would never legalize. that means gov regulation, that means prices go up. in canada if your looking for MMJ your gonna pay 15 sometime more for some bunk ass sativa strain that i wouldnt sell to somebody i dont like and if its other stuff its illegal. because you can only legally buy and grow the 1 strain health canada provides to you or buy the weed from a health canada source which is the same thing as what they're gonna sell you if you want to grow your own.
the good thing is since early 2000s to date you can fill out an application with somebody suffering from anything and have a prescription for MMJ and become they're designated grower. bad thing is of course stephen harper had to F*** that up and is rewriting the health canada act in 2014 so no point on dumping a crap load of money into some gear to grow at large scale legally STUPID majority Gov. plus you read people talkin about how they still get they're door kicked in and all they're plants/equipment taken meanwhile they are a legal DG but thats the government

Marijuana: is the risk worth it? [There isn't a single recorded death being directly related to marijuana. I'm sure people have died over street trade but that doesn't directly relate to it. Weed itself is a plant THC the active ingredient that people seek in the female plant.] (the behaviors of those involved in drug trade violence are usually a result of a stronger more expensive substance. Marijuana is mostly a "want" rather than a need. However it has many healing purposes not in just a physical sense [to ease pain] rather in a mental sense [development and creativity.] Alot of musicians, painters, poets, actors. All smoke pot to give them inspiration, The MSI leader i saw above in this post said hes smoked for what? over 4 years. Hes contributed to the development of simba or something here at the forum. Personally, i've smoked since i was 11 years old i'm currently a 20 year old college student maintaining 3.8 + gpa and i haven't had to study for a single test. For my whole entire career in school after 7th grade i was stoned for class, even to this day. Do i feel health problems from it? No. Do my lungs hurt? No. i run/jog 3-4 miles a day casually for exercise. Do i feel socially awkward? No i have tons of friends, old/young stoners/non stoners whatever. I'm good with people regardless and i don't act any different when i'm stoned around them. [to me looking out maybe it seems strange to see everyone else while i'm completly ripped, however they don't ever seem to mind] i've had hours of conversations with many intelligent people, and i still remember and implement everything into my daily life. I seem to be doing alright. The majority of the people i know smoke pot, their problems in life don't relate to it. [ there are a select few that do slack from weed, but thats not the drug thats their threshold/vs/ abuse of the substance. I do abuse it, but i'm used too it. Keep on smoking, and its not something you have to do its YOUR CHOICE.

We're in the 2010's.. People already know what meth and cocaine and heroin does.. Unless they themselves (with the knowledge) want to do those hard drugs.. then okay good for them.
But on the Marihuana subject: it kills no one, and never will. It's healthier than alcohol and tobacco/nicotine. Even if it were to be legalized people still wouldn't overdose (unless you happen to smoke your weight of weed, which would be around 50kg+ of it)
This is why governments finally are making a decision (due to Rio +20) to decriminalize marihuana.
TLDR: It's great :) No harm.
Recent studies have proved that marijuana is displacing corn as the number one cash crop in the United States. As well as that more teens and young adults smoke marijuana than cigarettes.
Personally, I think weed is great. You can make paper, fabric, rope, butter, and oh, yeah, it gives you a buzz.

No one i know "mixes" tobacco with weed. The closest I can POSSIBLY think of is rolling a blunt when you take the wrap(leaf) off of a cigar blunt of tobacco. Yes, that's arguably "mixing" tobacco but not really. You take all the tobacco out and use just the leaf. This is barely any tobacco…

Wow, lol. It is normal to mix it with tobacco in the Netherlands, I don't see how you can smoke it without it. You would be completely off the world stoned with less half a joint. Of course that can be a desired effect, but we usually mix it with tobacco, this is also done with premade joints.

Wow, lol. It is normal to mix it with tobacco in the Netherlands, I don't see how you can smoke it without it. You would be completely off the world stoned with less half a joint. Of course that can be a desired effect, but we usually mix it with tobacco, this is also done with premade joints.
haha, come to america, I'll teach you how to smoke weed ;)

Sorry, this pissed me off.
NO YOU DO NOT NEED TOBACCO TO SMOKE WEED.
okay, no longer pissed and I can calmly bring you two back to reality.
Ways to smoke weed without tobacco:
vaporizor
glass bowl
wood bowl
bong
joint
steamroller
bubbler
gravity bong
etc. the list goes on and on and on…
No one i know "mixes" tobacco with weed. The closest I can POSSIBLY think of is rolling a blunt when you take the wrap(leaf) off of a cigar blunt of tobacco. Yes, that's arguably "mixing" tobacco but not really. You take all the tobacco out and use just the leaf. This is barely any tobacco…
Erm, isn't this exactly what I said?
Take the time to read my comment at least, no need to de-rep me when I share your opinion…
If you don't get it, litoris said the harmful thing is tobacco and I agreed…
Edit: I travelled a lot around the earth, and everyone seems to mix with tobacco, so calm down "weed-expert" :)

I'm not a weed expert. I'm simply a herbivore…
I've never in my entire life mixed or heard of or seen someone mix tobacco with weed. I would NEVER EVER IN MY LIFE dream of ruining something so good was something so terrible… (yes, i used to smoke cigs.. finally quit tho :D )

vaporizing may be the "best" way as you don't get carcinogens because the flames not touching it. However, my favorite thing to smoke is a blunt, then a bong

not sure about Millions but it can have really bad effects on some people. Then again, it also has some good aspects especially for pain relief.

There are no researches that proof weed kills people, so don't spread that rumor unless you have a valid source.
Also there are researches which proofs that weed helps against certain cancers. (I'll try to find the article)
Weed does especially mental dammage after a while and IS addictive.

I would like you to cite a source or too. How is weed mentally damaging and why do you say it's addictive? It's not chemically addictive.

Sadly, I'd fire you if you were working for me. I run a major company with roughly 40 co-workers and I know in other companies there are times when you get hurt on the job they want to make sure you don't have drugs in your system just to get out of paying etc;
Either or way weed is a waste of money, never doneit–never will. I rather burn my money in other ways. You wanna roll your money and smoke it away your only going to get so much from it.

Sadly you can't fire me, and neither can my boss. It'd be impossible for him to replace me… ;) The company I work for is SIGNIFICANTLY larger then yours also. I've never been drug tested and never will be at my current job.
Saying it's a waste of money when you drink alcohol is called being an oxymoron. (basically a hypocrite)
I'm about loving life, not just living it. I'd much rather smoke weed every night with a few friends because I've worked hard all day then spend that money on other things people would consider "fun". (especially $100's on alcohol)
Weed is less harmful then alcohol. You can't sensibly argue against that. I'd argue the reason you're never smoking weed is because you never have.

Great post. ;)
If were're talking costs and burning money, then look at drink prices in bars…. at the low end you're looking at spending $3-4 per cheap beer, $5-9 for quality beer or hard liquor. I've had friends get too fucked up at a bar, walk out with a hundred dollar tab. At the same time I can buy 3.5g anywhere from 30-60$, and that shit will last me an entire week.
Just had a friend die the past month from drinking and driving… I can't tell you how many people I know smoke and drive with no issues whatsoever. It doesn't affect you the same as alcohol, which causes overconfidence in driving ability. Weed actually causes one to drive more cautious. However, I do think "newby" smokers could have issues driving as they are significantly more prone to the "side-effects", than seasoned smokers.
And don't even get me started on drug tests… the biggest bullshit ever. If I got injured on the job WHILE SOBER and had to take a piss test, then they would be like ahhhh rawrr you had THC in your system rawwr you fired! Even though I was really sober, I would still have it in my system for weeks or longer. At that point its not about safety in the workplace, its discrimination against a PERSONAL choice OUTSIDE of work.
I encourage anyone who thinks weed actually causes harm to find a credible scientific study, which shows its harmful nature. I can say with certainty that you will not find one. The only harms I have found associated with weed are those caused by its illegality.

I have friends that has hippy parents. They've been smoking an ounce a week for 20+ years. Still sharper than an arrow, and smarter than some friends I know. They've never done anything that would cause harm toward anyone or themselves when smoking, or after. It's a happy drug, and I admit, I smoked with them in highschool.
They smoke that dro stuff, it's suppose to be good, but I don't know the strains :p

Everyone is replaceable Jesse, nobody is untouchable so dont forget that and don't take that for granted. I really don't drink since it costs money and I prefer to spend my money on other things that would most likely not prove my case here.
But all in all, If it's illegal; prceed with caution because again your not invisible you can be caught either by the law or by your job. My company I work for has a job of 200+ workers but I only am in charge of 30 or so in my department and I don't mess around…

So buy drinks at a liquor store? It's so much cheaper, I could get a 1L bottle of vodka here for roughly $30.

I was just going through my YouTube history, and I found
this channel which I last viewed a couple of years ago.
Nonetheless, his
latest video provides a pretty compelling argument, backed up by several (referenced) scientific statistics, as to why weed is bad and why you should not smoke it. Enjoy.
(CAUTION: Plentiful swearing, minor's should not view this video in the presence of their parents)

"In 1970, President Nixon appointed Raymond P. Shafer as chairman of the National Commission on Marijuana and Drug Abuse, also known as the Shafer Commission.
While the Controlled Substances Act was being drafted in a House committee in 1970, Assistant Secretary of Health Roger O. Egeberg had recommended that marijuana "temporarily " be placed in Schedule I, the most restrictive category of drugs, pending the Shafer Commission's report.
On March 22, 1972, Mr. Shafer presented a report to Congress and the public entitled "Marijuana, A Signal of Misunderstanding”. The Commission concluded that marijuana users "are essentially indistinguishable from their non-marijuana using peers by any fundamental criterion other than their marijuana use." They found that, "Neither the marijuana user nor the drug itself can be said to constitute a danger to public safety." The Commission recommended "Decriminalization of possession of marijuana for personal use on both the state and federal levels."
Raymond Shafer was a decorated WWII veteran and the Republican Governor of Pennsylvania from 1967-1971."
