I think that the fear behind global warming is really stupid. Did the earth get warmer? Yes, a very little bit. Scientists need to create fear if they want money to fund their projects, and money to fund their paychecks. So they go screaming about how the world is going to end and saying that it's our fault. A number of years ago, it was all over the news that we were all going to freeze to death and that we were the cause. We are still here. Nobody has been able to prove that we are causing this. It's nature; things change, for better or for worse, but there's not much we can do about it.

Don't get so caught up with what the media says. They will always try to create fear in your life and make you scared to even go outside.

What happens if we can genetically modify ourselves so humans can live in water or fly? We could also make gigantic carbon nano tubes poles that could transport us from earth to space, or abandon earth during the next ice age and go and live on mars…

yes its happening, but theres nothing we can do about it because of the free market.
spending money on stopping climate change doesnt make any profit.

the invisible hand of capitalism will eventually kill us all.

obviously it is in some peoples intrests to deny that climate change is happening.

they used to claim that its only a minority of scientists that support the theory of evolution.
they also said evolution or creation cannot be proven

the main difference i see with creationism and climate-change-deniers is that the latter has much more money, because it includes massive oil companies and the like.

Everyone's heard of holocaust deniers, but did you know there are also people who deny that HIV/AIDS exist?

I once read a newspaper article about a woman who did, and continued to breast feed her baby dispite the whole of medical science advising her not to.
Her argument was pretty similar to the ones that have been used against climate change, "Doctors and pharmacutical companies need to create fear and doubt in order to get funding and for their paycheck".

also theres a large ignorance of how the climate works. Even though it seems obvious, the earth as a whole getting warmer does not imply that your local area will get warmer.

"I dont believe that climate change is happening because it snowed last week"

If you're referring to the end of the world, I believe its 12.21.2012. not 12.20 :P
And I'm pretty sure that if you're talking about what the mayan's prophesied, they were predicting a huge asteroid or to be more frank "Planet" was going to crash into the planet earth. There has been some research on this, some even backing it up. However, I believe that if there were a planet coming for earth, the world (even if it were kept secret) would be slightly more worried.
Either way, I'm getting DRUNNNNK the night before, so just in case the world does end, I won't know anything about it.

this particular journal is one of the worlds most prestigious, it was there that Einstein chose to publish his work on gravitational lensing, and Hubble his work on spiral nebulae.

this article was actually published in 2002, as you all know, scientists have known about this problem for many years.

its not very good for short sharp quotes, but here's some soundbites which should demolish your arguments.

From: Science Journal
Post says the researchers were somewhat surprised, as the results of the study unfolded before their eyes, to see the extent of the evidence for the impact of Earth's changing climate on species worldwide. "That anyone can question whether living things are being affected by climate change now seems incredibly dubious itself," he says.

From: Science Journal
"All the major biomes on Earth have been affected by a temperature increase of just a little more than half a degree Celsius—most of which has occurred during the last two decades,"

From: Science Journal
"That such a small change has had such an extensive effect is alarming when you consider that even conservative estimates predict the climate will heat up at least two or three degrees more."

thats the end of the fact, now for my opinion.

The vast majority of you climate change deniers are americans, your country is well known for its misunderstanding and poor education in science.

your free market ideals will end up destroying this planet, that was predicted by anti-capitalists in the 18th century and is no less true today.

Sure, there are some scientists who have "proper training" who disagree with the global warming theories. But do scientists who have a degree in global warming disagree with it? I highly, highly doubt it. The fact that some scientists doubt it proves nothing if they dont know all the facts regarding it, you may as well say some firemen or some musicians dont believe in it. Find me a scientist who has a degree in global warming recognised by a major university who doubts it, then you'll have a valid point.

Global warming cant be proven? Right…come back in 50 years and we'll see.

A minority of scientists believe that we're contributing to global warming? Citation needed.

But you're right, there are some people who doubt global warming, just like there are some people who doubt evolution, that the world is round, and that we even exist. But these people are becoming fewer and fewer as the evidence stacks up agaisnt them, according to the head of science at my university. But as I stated up there, these people probably don't understand/aren't aware of the full science behind global warming (such as yourself) so their opinions on the subject are redundant.

I wouldnt say yakman believes himself to be an expert on everything, he just trusts that the experts (scientists) know what they're talking about, as do I, since it's peer reviewed so would be incredibly hard to "pull the wool" over the whole world's eyes. And anti capitalist/anti american views have nothing to do with education or proper training, sorry, theyre opinions and ideologies and thats about it. You dont need to have a degree in politics to have a valid opinion on the issues, unlike in science (unless you fully understand the topic which is unlikely unless you have that degree).

Edit - however I agree with you that the media are incredibly sensationalistic about everything but its not the media saying this stuff. The scientists report, the media say "OFMG EVERYONE LOOK!!! WE'RE GONNA DIE!!! SEE HERE: " and then chuck in the scientists report.

"We Have to Take Away People's Fear of Climate Change"

"Hans von Storch is one of Germany's leading researchers on climate change. DER SPIEGEL spoke with him about why fears of global warming are exaggerated and the doom-mongering tendencies of German scientists."

To summarise: "Yeah climate change is happening and carbon emmisions contribute to it but it's not as bad as the media says". That much is already elementary…

SPIEGEL: Is it even possible to prevent global warming at this point?

Storch: No. Because of the inherent time lag in the climate system, the greenhouse gases that have already been pumped into the atmosphere will undoubtedly lead to a certain increase in temperature in the coming decades.

"Greenhouse gases cause global warming." Therefore, not reducing carbon emissions will cause an even greater increase.

He's not denying climate change, or the fact that increased emmisions contribute to it, just saying instead of panicking and looking for a way to stop it, we should prepare and try to limit it as much as possible.

i freely admit i have no proper training, that is why i listen carefully to people who do.

what you got to do is see what they think and why they think it. In other words, look at the evidence for yourself.
To be honest, i find the Nature and Science journals a bit unreadable, but i like reading the summaries like that link i posted before.

on the contrary, isnt it arrogant to think yourself so clever that you can go against all the evidence?

(I've been wrong to say "goes against accepted science", because science isnt a democracy, if all scientists believed in X, it doesnt make X true. But using pseudo-democratic values like that is useful for political reasons)

this is quite an intresting development. Instead of trying to refute my main point relating to the Science journal, you're attacking me for being arrogant.

If you cant attack the idea, attack the person.
