Reflection is OUTDATED

If someone still hasn't hear (as you can see from people's post), Jagex removed their StringWrapper and some work has to be done so that anything concerning strings works again, so please wait patiently for an update.

What does this do exactly, so SCAR cant read uptext?

It can still read uptext, assuming you're using color. This just means that all of reflection is dead right now.

For the people not so involved..

Rs replaced their files with something new, Think they went from byte to strings(or the other way around). And we can't read that atm.

Also, ive heard smart needs an uptade? can be false tho.

It's an easy fix and shouldn't be much of a problem for you to fix, all they did was make it so that it's java.lang.String now.

The bad part of reflection..

It'd be an easy fix if we had access to more of Java's reflection or if we could modify SMART, but we have neither of those. :p

I only found out about 5-10 minutes after I made the post that any major edits to SMART such as the swap of java.lang.String with String wrapper would need to be made by Benland, which he apparently won't do in the near future.

You do know its possible to get the java files out of SMART? If Ben doesn't mind, it shouldn't be too much trouble to change it.

EDIT: I'll try to find the post about it… as far as I remember someone was able to do it a while back..

Ok, we'll be awaiting those files, then.

It's possible to get the Class files out of version 1, but that one doesn't have reflection in it ;)

In the meantime, will the rest of the hooks work? I don't think I really need strings for anything that I care about involving reflection

Boy 'm I happy that I stuck to colour based for a while again :p
Got me from 3,8m to 9,7m in 2 days!

But still I really hope we can fix this.

That's actually something I am curious about.

It's widely known that for things that do not provide substantial income, the best way to rapidly increase the progress at which it evolves is by making it open source. That way the project can live on even when the founder/initiater gets tied up or decides to leave.

Perhaps its time to start considering putting a team together to create an open source version of SMART.

Hah, only people with the Java skills for that at SRL are BenLand and Yakman, (and Method has a smex updater :p), and none of them are actually required to do any of this, SMART was a gift from Ben…

However I don't think Ben has anything against it if someone can pull it off…

He has nothing against someone else doing it, just, he wants to keep HIS source private. That's his right. :)

Possibly, but he's got plenty of work as it is with just SCAR.

The wonderful BenLand100 has released another version of SMART which makes the necessary changes needed for reflection to continue working. I don't think Ben will be making an appearance, but you can certainly still thank him, he has put a lot of hard work into SMART! The new SMART is attached at the bottom. Other changes, Ben *thinks* he has fixed the memory leaks. He's not sure though.

All is fixed.
