My First BSoD

:O I know, it's probably crazy. But, I got my first ever BSoD.
Now, I know you're going to say it's because I'm running Vista Home Premium 64-Bit. But, it's not :)
And to calm the haters, Vista is much nicer and easier to use that Linux.
But anyways, I got it because I tried to use the RSBot RuneScape as my SCAR client. Wow. That was a rush.

Win7/Kubuntu all the way :)
Vista is crappp. Win7 is faster than Vista. That should say something :p

Ok, so it's faster…Are there any bugs?
EDIT: Bullzeye, what do you use?

Surprisingly few. No BSoD yet, and it's been compatible with nearly everything I've needed.
True test will come in the next few days when I put CS4 on it.

Does it have a 64-bit version?
Smartzkid
2009-02-21 23:22:22
Yup. With Win7, the 64 bit version is the version. A 32 bit version exists, but it is depreciated by microsoft.

So is Win7 alot of money?
Should I wait for my desktop when I buy one to just get win7, or get vista??
I hate microsoft sometimes when they have so many versions of everything…:duh:
Smartzkid
2009-02-21 23:42:14
Def don't pay for vista. Win7 is currently in Beta, was free from microsoft, but that's over now. You can find it on TPB if you want it.
I would definitely pay money for Win7 though.

@smartzkid, how is win7's speed compared to XP?
@ejjman, I'm pretty sure MS is giving free upgrades to win7 if you have vista. I'd have to check on that though.

Win7 beta only lasts till like august(?), then the activations get canceled or something, not really a tip, just a "look out"
Call me a dummie, but whats a BSoD?
Hmm, nice. I've got 2 BSoD's with Vista just in the time I used it at school (not even many hours total). And no way it's easier to use than for example ubuntu which is a "noob linux", if you're used to windows of haven't even tried any other OSes you think it's easier.. And I've used XP for ages and I recall a total of 1 BSoD.

Windows XP displays a black screen with white arrow if lsass.exe is missing or corrupted.
On Windows Vista, some boot errors are shown on a black screen. These generally occur when winload.exe is missing or corrupted.

Yeah, I only got a BSoD when I was installing XP onto a PC setup to use SATA mode hard drives, and XP doesn't have SATA drivers by default. I just turned off SATA and it worked.

Well in fact you've got different sorts(correct me if i'm wrong):
you've got Black Screen of Death for the older versions of Windows, Blue Screen of Death for XP(but prob. also for newer versions), and a special Red Screen of Death for Vista. The way i tell it may let it look that Screens of Death are version-based, but in fact they are just based on the error that your system has encountered. The Wikepedia definition:
The Blue Screen of Death (also known as a stop error, BSoD, bluescreen, or Blue Screen of Doom) is a humorous term used for the error screen displayed by some operating systems, most notably Microsoft Windows, after encountering a critical system error which can cause the system to shut down to prevent damage.
But prob. the best way too describe a BSoD is like a Red Ring of Death for the 360.

No, a computer can recover from a BSoD. A 360 can't recover from a ring of death. Well when I had it at least, i couldn't.
yeah.. I used windows 7 and with code hints on I got blue screen.. win32k.sys was the problem.. and I got blue screen doing like anything :\
don't think it was my comp..
