Hey guys, just posting this for you to keep an eye out for any active scripts that break these rules.
Infract them and then a mod will dis-aprove the script until it is updated.

Hmmm… I'm not gonna do it.

I'll take example from Mahatma Gandhi and protest.

The new rules:
  • We do NOT obfuscate our scripts, we do not encrypt them. You are free to do so, but you are not allowed to post any reference to it on SRL.
  • We do NOT use default stats accounts. This has been discussed before, and it is not allowed.
  • We do NOT terminate scripts if Stats accounts are not filled in. You post a script, people will leech it. It's a simple as that. Without SRL-Stats you wouldn't even add this kind of stuff to your script. (No Anti-Leech system)
  • We do NOT log IP's, or any RuneScape account details.
  • We do NOT open web pages that contain no useful addition to the script. And unless you can come up with a real good reason, I suggest you don't use it at all. Opening Web Pages that are used for ads, etc. are not allowed. *
  • We do NOT hide any code from the human eye, we do NOT space it to the right. We have nothing to hide.
  • Pluggins must ALWAYS be posted with their source.

* Useful: Online progress reports, status reports, version checker, …,
* Not Useful: Adverstisements, click for cash, …;
* Strictly forbidden: Username, Password. Nicks are allowed.
* If you are unsure of a feature, ask staff.

…what's so stupid about it?

The principle of the matter :)

Exactly. The fact that limitations are being imposed.

Stupid rules are stupid.

these rules were discussed in another thread and have been around for a while, only that now they have been put down to an actual post.

no default stats account has been around for a long time. not terminating the scritp goes hand in hand with that.

Not stealing passwords has also been around for a while.

Not obfuscating, same thing as above.

And so on. We've lived by these rules so far, what's wrong in putting them down to a post?

No real limitations have been put to anyone except no hiding of code, no obligatory stats accounts and no stealing of passwords. Users are still allowed to send things to a website as long as it is not the IP, the Username or the Password.

Care to elaborate robot?

You can't check that they don't log IP's without getting access to their site silly since it would nearly always be server side due to it being so easy to do through PHP :)

Users are still allowed to send things to a website as long as it is not the IP, the Username or the Password.

You are effectively then destroying every connection to the web, as it's impossible to receive data without exposing the IP adress.

We do NOT open web pages that contain no useful addition to the script.

Why not? As long as I don't steal passwords/usernames it doesn't matter what I do in my own script? Why impose limitations on this? Any real reason? None that I can think of. What does it matter if I put a nice 'Support this script - donate to Markus!' in my script which opens a page with a donate link? I don't force people to click it.
And where does this end? If I'm reading the discussion thread again this seems just like the beginning to me of an era where there are more and more restrictions put into effect.

exposing the IP and recording it is VERY different. So that does not actually limit your connectons. And as mixster said there is no actual way to check for it if it is done through php.

why not ads an click for cash etc? that was discussed a long time ago in a thread that i brought up about a month ago. Re-discussed and no one said nothing against it. And besides, how many scripts open up a donating page right now? The only script i've seen doing something even close to this is munk's forefeathers which posts a link to his development page in which he has ads in his thread. Why not post a link in the debug box? that leaves it up to the user to open it or not.

I'm not going to lie, i really dont like them either. I feel they are a bit too harsh. But SSRL has discussed this so it was put into play, you all had your chance to say something…
