Back from Brainwash camp!

In Finland, whether you were very religious or not, as long as you are christian you will go to a week long (Usually) confirmation camp, where the church does their best getting people to believe in god. I shall write about the camp.

Day 1 -

We go to the church at 10 in the morning. The bus leaves to the camp.
We arrive there, sort out groups, rooms etc. The "studying" at the camp wasn't really hard, because you were able to drink coke / eat candy / listen to music on the lessons, and most of the work were done in small groups.

Lights off and shut up time was at 11 pm. No. First night we had loads of fun, mostly toilet humour. A leader of the camp threatened me around 3 times that I'm gonna have to go sleep in a hallway if I don't shut up.

Day 2 -

We started to spend our freetime mostly at the ping pong table and pulling down pants. This night was amusing. Our 'gang' was split into two rooms, but the fact that they were next to eachother failed at silence. The people in the other room started lighting up farts. There are these bit little older young men and women trying to keep up discipline and help, and at around 1 am, one of these "biggies" (direct translation from Finnish) walks into the other room, when my friend flames a fart, and shouts: "<name> WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?! GOD NO!", naturally that lasted as amusement for the whole night and the week. The leaders of the camp looked really fucked up on the breakfast every day on the camp.

Day 3 -

People start getting colds and flues, 10 people got a flue/cold and 5 of them had to go home. Silence time, we talked and laughed about dirty stuff and dissed one of the biggies because one of my friends claimed he sleeps naked. Apparently all the biggies and the priest were listening behind the door, the priest walks in and we all Roll On Bed Laughing Our Asses Off, one of my friends who had talked about how her mom had busted in when he had sessions (the most amusing word for the rest of the camp) going on, and he had barely managed to… Well.

Day 4 and 5 were pretty much the same, we weren't whined at so much etc…

Day 6, we get told to pack up and clean because the camp was ending etc, my friends tear apart, stab, and… "smudge?" one of their bibles. @Finnish people: Sitä kutsuttiin uudeks testamentiks sen jälkee koska vanha jäi pihalle ikkunan alle / roskikseen.

So, they get busted because one of the leaders who is epicly religious (she), happened to look out of the window. Apart from the old testament, below the window there were some of the gifts (mostly pencils and crap) we were given from these small sport kind of competitions. The leaders starts weeping on lunch :p

Well, had fun, learnt nothing, and managed to only get a cought while many people had epic fever etc.

Just to clarify this: No-one pays you to go there, people just get money from their parents etc.

I didn't go there and I never will, even if it'll mean I can't get married in a church, or maybe in a churc but atleast without a priest mumbling crap. Just a lousy tradition around here.

Seems like great fun.. apart from the whole religious shit :P
I wouldn't do it though, it isn't really here.

Just to clarify, my reasons for going there had got nothing to do with religion…

No offence, but it becomes pretty clear that you're "the youngest SRL Dev age-wise" from reading that :p

Though, amusing story.
Glad people have enough brains not to "believe" in "God".

Oh and n3ss you're not really "auto-christian" but you'll be auto-memberized to the church if your parents are members of it etc… Planning to get rid of it once I turn 18 (or atleast once I get a job, not paying taxes for something I don't believe in or have any use for (church crap, no ty)).

…this sounds a lot like my own personal version of hell.

Not the religious stuff, that I can do with my eyes closed and my hands tied behind my back. Those kids would have me going crazy by the first 5 hours, haha.

Nice stories :)

"<name> WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?! GOD NO!"

Also, lol @ "sessions"…
I feel for the counsellors/leaders though - in the summer I am a lifeguard at a swimming pool and even on good days, I find myself imagining how nice it would be to drown the goddamn annoying kids :o

Yes, the biggies were like 17 yr old so they were a little bit more mature than us, but not that they could do anything about it… Oh right, on the second day it was common to fart on someone's pillow and engage in a revenge war :p

For a religious and passionate debate go to BBQ.

And im glad 80.1% of the worlds population have more then enough brains to believe in god.

And I'm glad more than 80.1% of them have more than enough brains to say that they have the faith and not the brain… You can't really say is it intelligent to believe in god or not…

Well I have a very strong faith in god and and very strong belief. I think that camp thing is good for you. Teaches alot. Instead of looking at the negative, look at the bright spots they give.

I remember doing something like that. I tore off part of the banister and made some holes in the wall :D

It was because my mom had destroyed my backup of my /home/ folder…

If you're not religious but you're a member of the church then yes, you need to pay some church tax. That's why I'm planning to leave the church before I start working.

Yea, it was pretty easy, all I had to do was remember that it's 2009! :p

GoF does everyone start off as a member of the church automatically or is it because your parents signed you up?

I think it's because of the uhm… Dipping? :p Where the priest puts water on your head…

Haha I remember my brainwash camp 2 years back :D It was quite fun in the end, its pretty much a tradition here in finland, doesn't really have much to do with someones faith in god or anything.
You seemed to have quite good time in there also ;D

OH and Nesses, I think the actual term is "Christening" instead of "Dipping" ;P

And little more about the "biggies", they are couple years older than the ones going through the jesus camp, they get crappy wage from the week (100 euros I think), but for example, you get one course for high school from it, and many people just do it for fun & little bit easy cash, the jesus camp isn't actually all that bad, me and my palls had really good time in there, you get to pull pranks n stuff, its fun even that it sounds really fucked up ( + like Nesses said, you get hell fucking alot of cash from your families, just because its a tradition )

Usually if your parents are member of the church, then you are also. Once you are 18 years old you can leave church. (You can do that even online)

Once you leave the church, you don't have to pay church tax anymore.
