grant? I say yes.

No reason not to grant I'd say

i said yes, althought you had at first said no "foo" to "bar" and most JMs wouldn't know him by iroki.

If he gets the user title "Aka manfromczech/former account stealer" or something, just so people know who he is

I think he should just leave it =/

He isn't asking because iroki is a cooler name than manfromczech. He is asking because he thinks it will help his chances of being fully forgiven and becoming a member. If there is no chance of that happening, don't get his hopes up. If there is a chance of that happening, change it.

2009-02-15 15:44:42
No. I say he should stick to that name. He's only trying to make everyone forget his past, and a name change is one step. This is simply foo -> bar.

No.

Yes, I say give it to him. I think it will let people know who he really is if they don't know already. Make sure you put account stealer in user title or something.

I've posted why it shouldn't be changed in the thread in the Moderators forum but I'll quickly say it here again.
He wanted a new and fresh start;
A new change, a new nick. I don't think he should change his nickname back to what it was, that would be like 100% accepting and forgiving what he did in the past.

Granting it is against the rules.

Exceptions have been made before.
This is a special case, and people do originally know him as Iroki.

After knowing who he is and letting him stay is also against the rules no?

There is this exception when we ban someone, and find out who he is, we don't ban him again. This is so we can keep track of what he is doing.

And as Iroki he has committed his account stealing actions… This is exactly why he should not get that nickname again. If we grant him that nickname, it would look like we are forgiving him.

+1, hadn't thought of it from that point of view. And as fawki has said on a number of occasions, forgiveness is out of the equation.

UNLESS THE RESULT IS OVER 9000! Wahahahaha. Then you need to take funny to the power of mercy.
The ban equation: "deed_karma - kindness_today^inherint_mercy * -forgiveness_before + forgiveness_now"
The Ban9000 equation: "-(funny_of_deed^mercy - 9000)"
Positive means you should ban him, a negative answer means you should let him stay. I expect this to become the basis for all ban decisions.

No offense, but that is by far the worst equation I have ever seen :P
This would make more sense anyways:
if AccountThief(Iroki) then Banzor;

R0b0t1, stop Foruming while High… Gosh.
How about we do both? ^_^
Change name to: manfromczech aka iroki
With the title of 'Account Thief'.
The order of names doesn't matter, or can be changed, if you think it's better that his first account should be listed first, or that his current account be listed first.
This idea really makes sense to me.
Note to self: Write up some legislation for use on return-from-banees/account thieves.

Which is why we should give him the title "Account Stealer" or "Pixel Whore" to show we havent

i really dislike the idea of putting the "account thief" title. Iroki has done a lot of good things since coming back and putting "account thief" as title would make him get sunned from the communitty by the communitty. Also, most likely he would make a new account and bye-bye to our monitoring plan.
Althought forgiveness is not in question, i don't think that shaming him any further is necessary. We don't have to make his stay completly miserable. Both hey321 and him have done nothing wrong since returning. I don't think they should be punished any further.

Probation after jail is what we are doing now. When you are in probation you no longer wear jail clothes and carry a name tag saying what crime you committed, do you?

Sex offenders do. And imo, stealing accounts is the child-rape offence of SRL. Never know if we can trust them again, no matter how much good they seem to be doing.

Personally, I would let him get Iroki.
That would probably make juniour members wonder why a foo - bar change was allowed, and an ensueing thread would probably be required, with Iroki's past history there.
But, I don't think a changed title would be necessary. If he hadn't asked for the name change, would you have changed his title? Probably not.
Furthermore, I agree with what Rasta and Bob said up there. I'm taking ManFromCzech being here as probation. He has owned up himself, and he hasn't done anything wrong. To be honest, he has contributed a lot.
So Summary = Name change, but no title change.

I assumed it would of already been changed, like it was for hey321 I think? If not him, someone was given the title "Pixel whore" and I think still has it.

I don't think it should. He was lucky to be allowed to return, so shouldn't be asking for any favours. Moreover, there is nothing wrong with his name at the moment, thus no reason why it should be changed other than his wishes.

SRL Return-From-Banee Act
February 18th, 2009.
Section 1.
For the purpose of this post, "forum", "forums", or "the forum" shall refer to the SRL Forums. "Return-from-banee" shall refer to members of the forum who've been banned from the forum for whatever reason, and returned to the forum under a new account name and/or IP address before the set unban date, without the authorization of an administrator. "Shall" is always mandatory, and "may" is discretionary.
Section 2.
The forum's administrators shall, upon acknowledgment of the creation of the return-from-banee's new account, issue a name change in accordance with the return-from-banee's old account name, followed by the delimiter " aka ", and followed by the return-from-banee's new account name.
Section 3.
The forum's administrators shall, upon acknowledgment of the creation of the return-from banee's new account, issue a title for use on the return-from-banee's new account, in accordance with the return-from-banee's offense or offenses.
Section 4.
The forum's administrators shall, upon acknowledgment of the creation of the return-from-banee's new account, or upon application by the return-from-banee for SRL Members, forbid the return-from-banee from exceeding the level of Junior Member on the forum.
Section 5.
The forum's administrators shall, upon acknowledgment of the creation of the return-from-banee's new account, issue a public announcement stating that the return-from-banee has returned, that the return-from-banee shall be welcomed under the return-from-banee's new account, and that the return-from-banee shall be abstained from achieving SRL Members.
I wrote it up as a joke, for the most part… Who likes it though :) I think it really does look like a piece of (crapily written) legislation…
